Nervous about Asphyx3ous (is that the official unofficial name on him?). He's attempting to follow up arguably the best caster in Cryx or even the whole game; he's either got to be ridiculous or risk being completely ignored by the players.

Or just be a completely different caster. :P

Well, yes, if he's not complete and utter bullshit he'd be ignored by Cryx players, wouldn't he?

Granted, it's Cryx we're talking about here, so the chance of him not being bullshit are low.

Also, look closely at the heavy jack in the back of that picture. Is that a helljack with an arc node?

*shrug* Just looks like a Slayer to me. I think that's its furnace, not an arc node...?

Asphyxious2 is a pretty good caster, but is definitely not the best.

Man, that art looks awesome. So, 2 casters on horses and 2 casters with companions.

About Cryx, the comment that made the most sense (to me) is that the problem is not that Cryx gets bullshit casters, is that they get bullshit casters AND bullshit infantry, unlike everybody else. How accurate is that?

EDIT: Oh, and w/e Mercs get.

Cryx's bullshit is greatly exaggerated. They are a powerful faction with a lot of major threats that have significant impact on the meta, but they also have some major weaknesses (mobile ranged threats) and rely heavily on tricks.

There's a reason Protectorate shuts their shenanigans down hardcore. Hahaha Errants.

  • SJSJ College. Forever.Registered User regular
And Cygnar tends to have really good game against Cryx just in general.

  • tzeentchlingtzeentchling Doctor of Rocks OaklandRegistered User regular
3 casters on horses, actually - Vlad, Kreoss, and Vyros. Somehow doubt that mercs will get a Legendary caster unless they decide to bump Magnus, and that's not too far fetched, but I think it's more likely that someone like Ashlynn would get the regular Epic nod, as Magnus is currently their only epic caster. Also supposedly the third Searforge caster is debuting in Colossals.

    THANK YOU. :P

In other news, loving the new Asphyxious art, although it does look pretty much exactly like the previous two with a weapon swap. I wonder what his playstyle will turn out to be.

Was under the impression that every faction was just getting one new 'caster in the book (mostly the new Epics), and the Merc one was going to be General Osrum (the new Rhulic caster) instead of a new Epic.

But yeah, Ashlynn or Gorten deserve it vastly more than [CENSORED] Magnus.

Why censor yourself? We're all in agreement here. Fucking Magnus.

But, really, Magnus has been more integral to the story than the other two and is more likely to run into a Super Saiyan moment than either of the other two. A second merc epic would be nice, though.\

Also we are trying to coin the term "Super Saiyan" for epic2 models around here.

I dunno, I'd say going from a freedom fighter sellsword without a home to Khador losing their grip on Llael and a Free Llael being something that actually exists again would be worth a upgrade.

Apparently in fluff bits recently she's been referred to as "Marshall."

I feel like I should know the answer to this but: When I activate a squad, do A) all the models move, then all the models shoot/attack/whatever, OR does B) all one model move and then attack, and then another model move and attack etc.

On the topic of Cryx: What has been kind of bugging me as a new player is from poking around in the fluff it kinda feels like Cryx is the favored child. I mean, I was reading the story in the start of the Khador book (which, to me should be rah, rah Khador) and it had us basically having to flee for our lives from Cryx not once but twice. And apparently (according to my Cryx playing brother) their fluff makes them out to be pretty much unstoppably powerful and for whatever reason they just haven't decided to unleash their full might. Oh, and apparently they just killed/captured one of Khador's warcasters? (My brother made this sound like this is a recent development, is there like, a place where new fluff is put out?)

Lol, the Hordes book has a ton of Cryx stuff in it too. Domination as well. I thought that was weird.

Cryx is kind of the omni-present destructive force, yeah. Though the Cryx book is written from the Cryx perspective, so it naturally falls on their side. The current state of a faction doesn't really reflect their "favored" status. Haley is Matt Wilson's personal creator-wank, and Cygnar gets fucked regularly.

I think Karchev got captured by the Cryx in Wrath, but I wouldn't worry about it. Warcasters get into and out of shit all the time and never die unless they can come back.

I see. Been reading the fluff on old MKI books and some Forces of X books and:

    a) I don't see a "free Llael" happening, like, ever. Sorry. The resistance kind of sucks.
b)PP seems to be laying off a super grim "war is hell" situation for a big climax where the heroes save the day like Legends, and given that Cryx are the archetypical bad guys, they get favored by now. To be fair, they got buttfucked by Haley a lot. Not Cygnar, Haley.
c)A curve ball would be making a pirate Merc guy the Merc epic. Like Shae. PP loves their Pirates.

Anyways, been playing some games with a Mordikaar list. He's sweet.

No, it hasn't. Parts of Lael are still contested by Khador and the Northern Crusade.

  • PMAversPMAvers Registered User regular
    edited March 2012
Yeah, after posting that I thought I should've added that clarification that it wasn't complete. Something like half the country isn't under Khador control due to that devil's deal with the Northern Crusade.

It isn't the *best* situation since the Protectorate are kinda dicks, but they're slightly less assholes than Khador. And that's saying a lot, seeing as they have a tendency to set people on fire.

Not really. Religious persecution is going to run rampant through all the Protectorate-controlled areas, which means lots of burnings and the like for non-combatants. I would venture to believe that non-combatants in Lael were not treated wonderfully by Khadoran military forces, but weren't outright slaughtered for their beliefs and unwillingness to convert.

  • TryCatcherTryCatcher Registered User regular
    50% Khador, 50% Protectorate, 0% Lhael.

And since the Protectorate won't give up land so easily AND they simply don't have the manpower to contest it, they are kind of screwed.

  • TheConstantWayTheConstantWay Registered User regular
That and the art for the Judicator is burning out steelheads in what appears to be a Llaelese city.

Not good times for the Llaelese, nope.

Not really, no, the Protectorate only has that one city. Name escapes me at the moment.

And yet, this is vastly a more interesting story than anything that involves Magnus.

So who here actually got into the tournaments at Lock & Load? Signups were pretty much full within a few hours of opening up (a couple went in minutes :( ). I got into Hardcore and the 3-Commanders, but I may drop the Commanders if I can't find enough registered people to fill out the team...

Leryn is a pretty major city (Home to a lot of warjack production facilities) and it's important to remember physical landmass controlled has less importance in a country that isn't as densely populated as, say, the United States. Controlling Leryn is tantamount to controlling a pretty good portion of the country's resources (non-agricultural, that is).
