So I want to get some speakers for my TV room at home, I'd like to spend between $500-$700 for the set including whatever reciever i need.

I'm a total novice at this. I don't want to just go to best buy and get "sold" some "super" equipment. But at the same time I have no idea what to get.

I would like ceiling mounted and if possible, white speakers, but the receiver can be whatever brand/make/model.

Are there any good resources anyone can point me toward on this kinda stuff?

Thanks!

Onkyo receivers like this one have a decent reputation: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120194

Could pair with something like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780018

I know they're not white :( I haven't bought anything recently, but I had fantastic luck with Klipsch speakers in the past, and the previous model of that receiver has had rave reviews from some friends. Anyhow, something like that pairing is likely what you'll get inside your price range. You could probably shell out a little more $$ for a 7.2 receiver for some additional channels on down the line. The speakers are mountable, but doesn't come with mounts afaik.

Of course now I'm re-reading your description... are you looking for recessed ceiling mountable speakers? or just like mountable up in corners or "off" the ceiling?

If you want recessed speakers you could do something like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290046 for the rear in the ceiling and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290044 for the front in the wall.

    I like those klipsch.

When I get speakerwire, is it a speakerwire to component cable? Like, component on one end, and speaker wires on the other end?

    nevermind I figured it out.

I don't know anything about recessed speakers, but if you just want a simple set and not worry about it, this Onkyo HTIB is generally considered acceptable and if you're OK with refurbs, it is only $500.

If you want to take the time and do the research, you'll end up with a better system. For a $700 budget, I'd recommend spending ~$250 on the receiver and the rest on speakers. That Klipsch set posted earlier would be better than the ones in the Onkyo HTIB set, but the receiver would be several steps down in terms of features.
