So I nod, go into the back room, hang up my apron, grab my bag, clock out, go home and never answered the phone or talked to them again.
Good man. I can't count the number of times I fell for that trick as a brand-new college kid.
Note to self: memorize job description.
Hey, Weaver. Naporeon thinks it would be a good idea for me to move out to the coast and I'm inclined to agree; any jobs out there for someone like me? Or will I have to go back to turning tricks?
oh I really hate the salespeople at this one cell phone kiosk at the mall.
They're always like "hey what kind of phone do you have?"
They also try to use really "hip" lingo like I'm 14 or something.
They honestly tried to tell me I would save money by switching from my pre-paid cell phone that I use maybe 4-5 times a week to a $40 a week plan. I spend about 15 dollars a month, but no matter how much I explained this to them, they swore I would SAVE money by getting the more expensive plan.
holy shit $40 a week?
I sure hope that is incorrect.

I'm an account manager for PC Connection and I'm doing pretty goddamned good right now, but I'm always open to suggestions. I'm thinking of going for a purchasing slot with someone. Failing that, I'm a fair peon with no futile dreams or silly hopes.

This is shady at best, but I don't see the big whoop.
You shouldn't expect to walk into a B&M store and have them match online prices. In many markets this is impossible due to local economy/etc. Some stores say they will match online prices, some don't.
If you want online prices then buy... online....? ZOMG!
uh
but it isn't preice matching that is going on
unless you think it is unfair for them to be expected to match their own advertised prices

That’s what is so baffling. No matter how you try and skew it, 40 dollars will ALWAYS be more then 15 dollars. I don’t know why he was so determined to convince me otherwise.

I know I'm kinda biased by getting payed by them, but I'm not trying to say BBY is doing the right thing. they just make their .com site completely seperate from their B&M store to be competitive on both fronts. At my store if they bring in a print out we generally match the price, also there is a way for us to look up the real .com price and match it there if they ask, this employee just didn't know how to get there, you have to log in and go to .com to get the .com price, if you just use the kiosk you get the instore price.
to say this it is unfair to have a different price online than instore is to say it's unfair for Wal-mart milk to cost more in california than in Kansas, seperate entities can charge different amounts.

okay
but then
when you go into the b&m store and the thing rings up more expensive
and you say that the thing was advertised as being cheaper on the website
and then they pull up the best buy website (which looks the same but isn't as a different page is being intentionally served on-site) and show you the higher price and say 'lol you're wrong it is more expensive see'
it has nothing to do with buying online vs. buying at b&m and has more to do with low advertised prices to draw in customers and an underhanded move to make them think they can't read and hit them for full price
to say this it is unfair to have a different price online than instore is to say it's unfair for Wal-mart milk to cost more in california than in Kansas, seperate entities can charge different amounts.

I think you're confused.
The issue is that $40 a week is FUCKING RIDICULOUS FOR ANY PLAN!
I have a monthly plan and only pay $39.95 a month ($50ish after taxes). Per MONTH. Not week.
ok the issues is the explaination, Best Buy doesn't match online prices, period, now to say your going to match it and bring up the wrong site is ignorance, not purposeful misdirection. I see what your getting at, and the individual probably did wrong by saying they would price match, but if you brought this up to an informed employee they'd tell you we don't match online prices.

Lets say I put an ad in the Sunday paper that says 'All you can eat weiners, $5.99'
you come to my weiner buffet, and I say, 'okay $12 please'
you say, 'oh goodness, i thought it was $5.99'
I now pull out a photoshopped copy of the Sunday paper which reads, 'All you can eat weiners $12' and say 'lol no, $12 plz'

Ronjon, if this is something Best Buy initally denied and then confessed to later, that is a GIANT FRIGGIN RED FLAG that they're doing something unethical. If it wasn't a big deal, why didn't they cop to it in the first place?
Ronjon they don't treat it like two different entities, they go to the intranet site posing as the internet site as though they are price matching, then fuck you over for the more expensive price. If it was stated, "bestbuy.com prices not available in store" and they didn't do any of the intranet stuff there would not be a problem.
Also, I've never heard of any company who would not match their websites price. That's borderline retarded.

What the fucking fuck? He didn't bring in some random websites price, it was the price from fucking BestBuy!
I'm not saying anything truly illegal happened here, but there is absolutely no question that this is shady, and trying to defend it just makes you seem dumb.
it's so dumb, if you don't talk to people they're all "nobody asked me if I needed help" and if you do they're all "quit bothering me"
I used to work at chapters (bookstore). Whenever it was slow I'd plead with the managers to give me something to do other than pester customers. They always give me the "go find a customer to help" line. So I was forced to wander around and annoy the fuck out of the 3 people in the store all day.
You should have just leveled with the customers about what was going on.
If I was in a bookstore, and an employee came up to me and said "Sorry man, but my boss is making me pester you", I'd be all like "Oh... Well, let's talk about [insert book I'm holding here]" and we'd have a grand ol' time.
I worked in the computer and business book section most of the time. I'd like to think I offset having to bug so many people by not selling books to people who didn't need a book. I'd get some person come in saying they needed a book on computers when they really just needed to know how to do 1 thing. I'd just take a piece of paper and write the instructions out for them or tell them a site to find it on. I also was able to piss away a lot of time talking to really old guys who liked to chat about the glory days of programming on old school IBM mainframes.
I'm not trying to make best buy sound awesome here, and I'm sorry if I'm being unclear, I'm just trying to explain the logic that was given to me when I brought this up 2.5 years ago when I started. the idea is best buy wants to be online competitive while still making decent money at B&M stores. The person did wrong by misleading the customer that instore kiosks acess the same bestbuy.com as home computers, they don't and he/she should know better, I'm just trying to give you what I know about the issue, don't hate me for that.

What do you mean 'go back to'?
I've been without one for almost a year now and it's been so great.
Now I am being told I may need one for work.
I like how the very last thing before he goes home is to clock out. Not any time earlier. Good use of time. :^::^:
As we walked away, I turned to Fram and said "what a dumb question, which one do you have?"
Then at the same time we both said a different STD.

nah don't bother
i mean they are pretty quality but it's like a dollar for the first minute and then they slap you five bucks every minute after that
