[Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure] New Trailer!
“Project Fedora” will continue the amazing adventures of Tex Murphy, the down-on-his-luck P.I. in post-apocalyptic San Francisco. This long-awaited game will be the sixth in the adventure series, which includes the award-winning games Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive and Overseer.
Project Fedora will reunite creators Chris Jones and Aaron Conners and feature their trademarks of rich interactive storytelling and immersive gameplay. The new game will incorporate the very best of the classic Tex Murphy elements - sci-fi, film noir, witty dialogue, great characters, beautifully integrated FMV, and a deep, engaging story - but it will also enhance the experience of the former games with stunning new graphics, a sleek new interface, and other updates.
The detective-style gameplay takes place in a fully 3D world where you search for clues, solve puzzles, investigate crimes, and question witnesses and suspects. While the gameplay will be fun and challenging, you'll never get stuck with the free, built-in hint system.
One of Project Fedora's most exciting features is how the game and story can unfold in different ways. As you play, your actions and choices will change events, leading to new story elements and gameplay. This "narrative pathing" not only allows you to customize your experience, it will provide unique replayability, as the game will have at three or more story paths leading to multiple endings.
Long-time Tex fans may be curious if the new storyline will pick up where Overseer (and its infamous cliffhanger) left off. The short answer is YES, but this game will be just as enjoyable for people who have never played the earlier games. While we can't give too many details yet, just be prepared for an incredible opening sequence!
Project Fedora promises to be the best Tex Murphy adventure ever - even better than the last three Tex Murphy games (Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive, Overseer), which were met with critical acclaim, won "Adventure Game of the Year" awards, and are consistently ranked as some of the best adventure games of all time.
Yeah. I will definitely be backing this one. At least one more game in this series needs to happen.
After watching the clip, it is pretty much a guarantee they can pull it off. There is plenty of talent and experience there. Also, the technology is at a point that they can make a better realization of it.
First of all, thank you so much for your support. We’ve really been grateful for the enthusiasm you have shown for the Tex Murphy Kickstarter campaign. We really appreciate it. We’ve had a great first day and hopefully we can keep the momentum up and meet our goal to bring Tex back.
INFO ABOUT DLC
We've seen a lot of concerned comments today about one of the rewards included at the $150 donation tier - specifically, the bonus downloadable content. Our intention was to give people some additional stuff, like the bonus content you get when you buy a movie DVD. We never intended to give people who donated less than $150 a "lesser" version of the game, but we now realize that that's how it came across.
For this reason, we will no longer offer the DLC as a reward. Instead, everything we had planned to do for the DLC will be included in the game – the same game for everyone, whether they donate $15 or $10,000.
We will be replacing the DLC with another reward at that tier and above. We hope this is acceptable to those who've already donated.
We apologize for our misunderstanding and hope you'll continue to support our efforts to bring Tex Murphy back!
FAQ INFO
We are compiling an FAQ list which we hope to have up on our Kickstarter site for tomorrow. Stay tuned!
The DLC thing seems fair. It was far too exclusive. Still, you know there would have been a cracked version as soon as it came out. I'll wait and see what shows up for the $150 bracket. I do like being in the credits for $100 though. All of them should do that.

I wouldn't mind a DVD of behind the scenes stuff. Out takes, alternate takes, script readings...
And I need to install and finish Overlord. It's on my GoG shelf...
Chris said he has often returned to the past Tex games and thought about what could be done if it were done today, they want to make it even more of an immersive game.
What kind of incentives will there be? Lighters and fedoras was mentioned.
What kind of platforms? They might be able to port it to more platforms if it goes over the goal.
Any star actors planned such as appeared in previous games? They have contacts in the industry with known actors but depends on budget and willingness. If they go over their goal it will expand the casting opportunities.
How would you enhance the game if it went over the goal? In addition to the casting of actors we'd also add more game content and expand it to make it longer.
Would new technology appear in a new game? Tex might upgrade his fax machine Whats endearing about the character is he is a man out of time so though he may use some new tech he'll still be using a phonograph.
How close will the game follow the Radio Theater, will it serve as the beginning of the new game? We may change the timeline to "A few years after" Overseer to account for the big gap in production. We've wrote some ideas for this that we like and would fit in with the overall direction we had in mind . There will be a lot of mystery in the plot that I think people will enjoy.
Will we see Francesca the Pizza Parlour Lady or other past characters again? The actors daughter may take up the mantle as the pizza parlour lady.
What is your opinion on the way FMV has fallen out of favour? I feel that its dissapointing as even today film is in my opinion the best way to show full human emotion and portray relationships by simply using real humans. It may be that some poor games tipped the scale back then but I think that film is still around us and commonly accepted, when I see a movie at the cinema I see how effective it is for storytelling. We want to offer something different that people can't really get today. We think we'll be able to do a dynamite job of bringing the storytelling up to todays standards and offer them a choice that hasn't been available for some time in games.
What is the plan after Project fedora, will Tex hang up his hat or like jello is there room for more? There is always room for more. We would like to do more than one game. Though we wouldn't want to end this one on a cliffhanger again, we might leave things at least open to more adventures in the future if this goes well.
Will you be filming a documentary of production? Yes. It'll be a reward incentive too. It's something we would of liked to do for past Tex Murphy games but never did.
What was your budget like for previous games? It was much bigger but today everything is so much easier to do on a low budget than it was in the 90s. I go to the cinema today and see how much things have come a long way. Green screening today is very easy by comparison. Back then we recorded on tape and did a lot of things to get it to all combine. Now you can just instantly have it all come together seamlessly.

Yay! Also I was kinda shocked to see Louie's actor in LA Noire when I played it.
We just want to make one thing very clear. We are indeed planning to have the new Tex Murphy game "Project Fedora" DRM free. We don't know where the communication errors began, but you may quote us on the fact that we are DRM - Free.

Going to give this so much money. Loved all the Tex Murphy games. Except for the parts where you were under a time constraint and had to work super fast. I'm looking at you office security robot and alien ghost thing at Area 51. I hated those parts. So stressful.
Favorite Tex Murohy quote, "hey! This door is just painted on!"

Funny story with that quote.
I had the demo of UaKM (takes place entirely in the back alley) and was struggling with both the controls and a 486 that could barely run it, turning any movement beyond "crawl" into a slide show.
After 10 minutes of fighting the controls, I finally get up that fire escape and...
A few years back, someone was selling a ton of copies of Overseer, sealed, including both the CD version and DVD version, all documentation... the only thing missing was the boxes.
I thought that was a bit odd, but then I noticed that the seller was in Utah. So I emailed the seller and asked if they happened to be Chris Jones or anyone like that. It wasn't, but it turns out that this person did work at Access as a teenager, doing packaging and shipping out of an owner's basement. What I was told was that, when Microsoft purchased Access (due to golf game competition, of all things), they didn't want software with the Access logo on it. This person bought them up and sold them on and off for years.
And that's my story of how I got my copy of Overseer on eBay.
RPS: Okay, so this is going to be half a million, and it’s many years later. So how is that going to happen? How are you going to work within what is relatively a very tiny budget?
Chris Jones: Well, first of all the budget we’re getting from Kickstarter is not all the money we’re going to be using. We’ll have several hundred thousand dollars that we’ll commit to it as well. So you’re really talking a production that’s three quarters of a million. But when you look at the tools and how much they’ve improved… it used to be horrendous, the amount of work you’d have to go through to cut characters out and put them on the backgrounds, and give it the depth and the feel of them being in the environment. Now the tools are so slick, it’s so much easier than it used to be. Off the shelf technology that you can pull for the engine itself – I mean, we had to develop our own engine, our own tools, we had a very big programming staff – now you can do it with fewer programmers by far. And for the art team, you need a reasonably sized art team to pull this off, but it doesn’t need to be nearly as big either. When you combine all of these great tools that we have now, with people who have done it before, who completely understand the process – a lot of the guys are the exact same guys who worked on these games before – when we say in the video that we’re the pioneers, that’s really true. This is pretty much second nature to us.
Notice that Chris's hair has changed. Gearing up for filming, I presume. Since he is older, I bet we will get more of a grizzled Tex this time. Aging is kind of an advantage to this genre.
<<< ATTENTION! There is an awesome stretch goal we still have to reach!!! >>>
- If we exceed funding by 30% ($585,000+): Another expansion of the story (including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters), more recognizable actors, ingame golf game, Live Orchestra for the games' music, EFIGS text translation and ports to additional plattforms will be added to the game
ONLY 50 hours to go
Hours left on the Kickstarter, trying to reach some JUICY stretch goals:
If we exceed funding by 10% ($495,000+): Additional story (including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters).
If we exceed funding by 20% ($540,000+): Port the game to additional platforms, provide Text translations for French, Italian, German, Spanish (English will already be included). Finally, more recognizable actors.
If we exceed funding by 30% ($585,000+): Another expansion of the story (including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters), ingame golf game, and Live Orchestra for the games' music.

I hope that if they reach the 30% stretch, they use the Links X-Treme game for the golf section including Lunar Links (golfing on the moon) and Links Deathmatch. They could pull it off, maybe even as something semi-serious.
They are going to reach 600k without breaking a sweat. In fact they should set another stretch goal.

Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

FMV gaming! Rise from your grave!
C'mon son.

This will be my first backing.
Hell, I would play a remake of Under A Killing Moon.
Now I kinda want a remake of Under A Killing Moon.
Play Pandora Directive.
Overseer is kinda hit or miss, like Hershey's semi-sweet chocolate instead of a Hershey bar.
Now I'm hungry...
Edit: and done. $45 pledged. Tex and Max are the whole reason I got into noir. I owe them.

It isn't, but he is doing the typical P.I. shtick.
Here are the guys that did Sam.

For example Casebook (a "modern" low-budget FMV game) allows you to move around in certain areas. It blurs out though till you stand still again.
