Drug Screen/Urinalysis/Background check Protocols...
I got this paperwork for a part time job that is confusing me. They gave me a packet to take in to a place for a physical examination, background check and what I assumed to be a drug screen. The packet included the cup to take in with me. But, when looking at the paperwork, it lists the laboratory work to be performed. They have Urinalysis and Back Screen checked. The Drug screen appears to have been checked, but it was whited out. The white out caused me to contact the prospective employer and ask them about it to make sure they gave me the right paperwork and they said it was good. They were doing a drug screen and only doing a background check? On the other paperwork I have, it lists the tests ordered as: *** STD, *** Comp 1, *** Comp 2 (I assume the first three letters are for the name of the business). So I don't know what Comp 1 or Comp 2 is.
I am just really confused though how you would need to pee in a cup for a background check and not a drug screen? Does that make sense to anyone else? I am not worried about the drug test, but I just assumed that since I am a new hire, I would be checked. That is normal, but the paperwork and what their HR is telling me is just confusing. What kind of a background check would they do that requires you to pee in a cup and what would they be checking for?

At my job, i've had to get a urinalysis where they check sugar levels and things like that. Not sure if that's what this is though.
Pee in a cup is a standard part of a routine physical. It's a dip stick test for sugars to check for diabetes and they might look for proteins as a sign of kidney problems.
Any time I've had a drug test they've had me go to a place where I pee in a cup at the place. Giving you a cup for a part time job seems very strange. That would easily allow someone to put any ole pee in that cup. For a physical though, that makes sense. A little weird they gave you the cup already though.
If you give them a cup beforehand, presumably they are filling at home and then bringing it to the physical. That seems like a simple courtesy for people that might have trouble going "on the spot". There is no reason to subject someone to the added hassle when the tests you are running aren't something for which they could "get in trouble".
Actually, they give me the cup and the paperwork and when I go in for the physical, they have me fill the cup at that time and the company there sends the specimen in to the main laboratory in a different state. Interesting to know that they are checking for that kind of information as the job really isn't a stressful job, neither is it very physical at all other than standing on your feet for several hours in a day.
It is also odd that they give you the cup beforehand if you can't fill it until you get there. You would think they are paying the place that does the physical anyway, and that place probably has its own supply of specimen containers.

I kid. It could very well be part of a normal physical exam. Maybe call the testing place and ask about the nature of the test.
Yeah. A guy I worked with found out he had diabetes from a urine test like this.
