Someone probably already posted this, but this game is exactly what the genre needed to pull all the retarded anime kids away from the other games that I want to play.

Actually that may not work. There's retarded anime kids and then there's retarded anime kids. One subset likes DBZ while the other likes to hate DBZ.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 5 YEARS

    FIVE LONG YEARS

    So have I...

    Fuckin' Bastards...

YES. Wanted this since I first saw it (even though no gameplay was shown)

IGN reported that it was still going but even that was a couple of years ago. I just want them to do something with the license.

Edit: they made that article about it not yet being vapourware in fucking February 2004! They covered SWG! STALKER first came to our attention, disappeared and went gold in that time!

    Doesn't look good...

Oh! The DBZ MMO? Dumb idea, especially since it just seems to be multiples of the existing characters running around, in a universe with alot of scope for character creation.

I want a Berserk, Outlaw Star, or a Cowboy Bebop MMORPG. But nobody should be allowed to be any of the real characters. Just the universe and locations would be cool.

    new screenshots and info.
Bandai Visual has announced a new online Dragon Ball MMO

Today, Bandai Visual announced that Akira Toriyama's popular manga and anime series "Dragon Ball" will become an online game called "Dragon Ball Online". Toriyama will oversee the project, while the Tokyo/Seoul-based company "NTL" will develop it. The game is scheduled for a release in 2008 in Japan, but a beta test in Korea will start this summer. Fees and payment schedules are undecided at this time.

The game itself is based in a world several hundred years after the events of Dragon Ball. This allows for both well-known characters and all-new characters to be introduced to gamers. Players can freely customize their hair, clothing and other facets of their character, group with other players and defeat powerful enemies and quests. Players can also challenge one another in combat.

    Or maybe a Smurfs MMO.

You're thinking about the wrong 80s properties.

    Transformers MMO.

Nameless developers out there. Are you listening to this man?

Something in the vein of CoX but with customisable transformers.

Oh, man, the Transformers license already has the perfect setting and backstory. Cybertronian war.

Factionless junkion vendors/NPCs (Satisfaction... guaranteed! OR YOUR MONEY BACK)

Party with the right people to make a gestahlt (I want to be devastator's arm this time, lol)

    No movie designs, please...

I'm going to go cry, because this will never be made. And even if it does, it will probably just ape WoW. It would be cool if it were as in depth as EVE with regards to character development with Armored Core type combat.

So it looks like combat will be your traditional click skills type combat like in every other MMO. And grinding, of course. It won't be good. It would only be good if they did something original, at the very least, and used a combat engine to bring out the excitement and fast paced nature of what we consider combat in this universe. If they copied Budokai Tenkaichi 1/2's combat, I would have been happy to give this a chance. However, the screenshot proves otherwise, so it looks like I won't give a damn.

    Yea... no

While having toriyama style characters is appealing, having monsters run up to you point blank so you can spam Kamehameha's in there face isnt so cool.

Unless the combat is like crazy fast with flying, meteor smashing enemies into walls, teleports and shit like that this game can go eat a bowl of fuck.

    loving the Tenkaichi 2 btw.

I agree, at this point the EQ RPG standard is a decade old, let's step it up a notch. And the amount of cash that this decade old franchise has allows it to expand the formula.

We can't really talk about "jobs", or "crafting", or "leveling", because besides leveling, the other concepts are foreign to the franchise (shit comes out of capsules the size of jelly beans for christsake.) and everyone just flies around and bashes one another into submission, be it with a weapon or pewpewlazers. Nevermind the fact that the series degenerated into nothing but SSJ nonsense. And it just seems odd to beat the living beejesus out of caterpillars or womprats that aren't bigger than 2 meters, to reach over 90 let alone the magic number.

But you sell me a combat engine that compliments the IP, with character building and familiar art, I'd play it just to see what's up and get a little bit of nostaliga....
I'm still going to try it

Upon further inspection, I've determined that she's not a little girl, but rather, a midget.

This inspection consisted of staring at the boobies and saying, "double-you tee eff? For a 10-year-old girl, those would be some mutantly large knockers."

    So, midget.

Im really glad this is real. Im going to be slogging my way through the korean beta come summer, i guess.

Im going to guess there will be some kind of crafting system, even if you just end up making capsuls. Jobs, well, the only thing i can think of is they could have a skill system, where you can specialize in something... but the only things i can think of are energy attacks or punching... Maybe they could break it down into punching, kicking, grappling, throwing, etc, but still.

Im still going to play this. Even if its terrible.

Christ man, those Screens need really need Anti-Aliasing.

Aside from that, I really wonder how this will actually fare. Probably not too horrible because I imagine that DBZ still has a huge fan base, at least enough to keep it in business for a few hundred years.

How about a level where you have five in game minutes to complete a mission? Five ingame minutes would be five real time hours.

Well, at first glance, their interface is a remarkable copy of WoW's. From the map and the party info, to the action bars, and even the 4 rightmost buttons that look like bag slots. Literally a 1:1 copy.

Looks pretty good though. DQVIII showed that 3D, cell shading, and Toriyama's artwork is a killer beautiful combination. Still curious on how they're going to do a story, but I suppose that's the easy part.
