I used to like Warren Ellis, until I realised that he essentially has a limited range of characters and just places them in different universes for all his work.

    Hellboy is great, though.

    !

Shrug. Maybe not. I don't read a lot of stuff in the past few years.

Same, until a few months back and I discovered digital comics and now soooo many comics!

I really enjoyed Watchmen and Astro City but I think that's more because they were analytics of the genre just as much as they were stories in their own right.

Yes. Astro City was a tonic to reverse the effects of The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen which had been awesome, but lesser hands had turned to evil. The 90s was a dark time.

I could give very persuasive speeches on why everything I listed there is important to the form of comics in one way or another while also being SUPREMELY FUCKING AWESOME. You know when I recommend something it is above all entertaining because my fav movie will always remain Big Trouble in Little China.

There's no reason for something to be dull or boring if it wants to be important.

That PA report about the tennis game, where the designer doesn't understand probability, is such beautiful Schadenfreude that even I can cackle at it.

And then he comes into the (polite) comments on his terrible knowledge at maths to set everyone straight.

    Both brilliant and annoying.

It reminds me of when I saw Highlander 2 and realised that someone got paid for writing that, so my writing couldn't be so bad really.

Good stuff is at the end of the article, and in the comments.
Also, the d20 added drama. It removed a large part of that binary decision making process of “I have the higher card and therefore I will win” and replaced it with a fuzzy gray area of play. It demands strategy. It forces you to think about math, probability, and statistics: “What were the last 4 rolls? Were they all insanely high? Statistics dictate I now have a higher probability, not chance, of rolling low. I might want to use a better card now rather than waiting to use it later.” It creates emotion: People get nervous about rolling that die as the target number creeps up. They stand up from their chairs on game point, like poker players going all-in. There is downright electricity in the air when the game comes down to 10-10 and every roll could possibly end the match.

A couple great barbershop songs. It's probably best if you don't watch the videos themselves and just listen (the first because the video quality is awful, the second because of the "goofiness" issue):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qukygSQjQTw

Even if you're not into it, do your best to stick it out to the end for the "tag", which is great in the first one, but really fucking awesome in the second one.

The first trade is kind of weak, but then it really picks up. I think there's a series 1, series 2 and series 3... I read 1 and 2 (this is not trades) and then I heard series 3 fell off in quality. I don't remember for sure.

    Lemme check... 66 hours apparently.

Got my WD up though half of Act 1 Inferno and well... it's just not very fun. I'd have to grind my ass off for gear at this point, which isn't really my cup o' tea. One of my friends is waiting for a new computer to show up so he can play so I'll probably hold off and roll an alt with him. Time to give some love to my other games that I've been neglecting (like poor old Tribes).

I did! I was in a (short-lived) a capella group in college, and also a barbershop group. Also the UCLA Chamber Singers did lots of madrigals over the years, which were all done a capella. The only thing better than listening to a capella music is performing a capella music!

And I am a fantastic dancer, you just didn't get to see all my best moves.
