I thought Sony was abandoning the Cell for more conventional CPU.
Developers have had quite a while to get used to it. With engine licensing and middleware being so prevalent I don't think using Cell again would be as much of an issue as it was at the start of this generation.
Didn't sony very explicitly state "no PS4 at E3"? Because far as I can tell, this years E3 presser is going to be devoted to Sony trying to save the vita.
Cell didn't really take off in the fields IBM expected it to so the only real future the thing has is with a potential PS4.
While there is a crapton of documentation on the thing after six years I really doubt Sony wants to waste time going down this path again.
They might end up taking a hit on the PS4's cost by taking the PS2 route and making the cell the friggin sound processor or OS chip for the quatro just to keep the fans happy, but somehow I don't see it.
I would say having the bank call you up wondering where their money is for the second mortgage you didn't know you had the definition of a blindside. Especially when the company flat-out said "We sold it".
We don't know all the details, just random postings on forums that state this and that with no sort of evidence. I would think if they told them "we sold it" the common response to that from an employee would be "how much?". Were they given fair market value for their home when the company agreed to sell it for them? Or just a cut of any profits? Nobody knows shit
Many of this postings are by old time and pretty much confirmed members. So, I'm pretty inclined to believe it.
As for the whole house deal
Yeah they've been getting all the paperwork together. He has a bill of sale, he had to pay 10k in fixes on the house before they would even take. Last year he paid taxes on a "house sale". So getting this phone call saying oops sorry is really shocking.
The major issue here for all the employees isn't losing the job. That sucks but most of them are veterans with plenty of experience and have been getting hounded by recruiters all week ( Blizzard offered my friend a job).
The sudden loss of health benefits (mainly for the two people having a baby this week), the last 3 missed paychecks (they were receiving constant promises that payment would be coming) and the housing bullshit is why these people are hosed.
If 38 really held the mortgages and didn't pull shady poo poo, and if the company filed for bankruptcy, then there wouldn't be quite as much hardship on the employees.
Not everyone has the luxury of being able to quit their job, disqualify themselves from unemployment, and spend an indefinite amount of time finding a new job and perhaps even relocating and starting over again.

That and not everyone is creating entertainment content. The employees probably believed a lot in the game and wanted to see it to the end.
On TVs: I don't think we'll be seeing resolutions going much higher than 1080p since as it is right now, 720p is enough for the average TV size at the average distance people watch it from in that they can't distinguish it from a 1080p set at the same distance. The next generation of consoles should be able to handle 1080p fully without any downrez tricks and then the consoles after that will be able to have that as well as full time 8+xAA and extra mipmapping levels and whatnot to make the fidelity better.
On people not quitting a job when they've had missed paychecks: as people have already mentioned, quitting means you don't get unemployment and generally one doesn't quit unless they have another job lined up. Very few people have the luxury of being able to up and quit without something else lined up already and as such people will stay on a sinking ship until they're kicked off forcefully.
Here's a good question, at what point does the specs of a console become irrelevant?
To the general audience, that ship has sailed. Nintendo proved that with the Wii, QED.
Maybe in terms of system sales, but how often do you see Wii titles wrecking the software charts?
So, Spoit was right. They never stop being relevant. People are going to want the shiny new games that can only be done on newer hardware (and with conventional controls)

Cade was more or less asking about the graphics plateau in a very odd way. Most people aren't concerned with the numbers and internal components, they're concerned with what's in front of them. On that front, the new stuff is going to stop mattering very soon, relatively speaking. But there will always be a faction of people, no matter how small, that will be focused on those goddamn internal components to the point of making judgments based on them.

It's fairly likely the PS4 doesn't have a Cell in it and its absence would basically kill PS3 BC full stop.
If this is the case, and people cannot use the PS3 games they've bought over the PSN, I imagine they'll be quite an internet ruckus.
I'd imagine the same to be true for the new XBox. If people can't use the games they've purchased over XBLA/PSN on the new system that's going to create some hesitation to continue buying them in the future (as well as the aforementioned internet ruckus).
VALVE, EPIC, GEARBOX
All three studios are banned from developing any Destiny or Comet conversions or adaptations.
EASTER EGGS
Before commercial release of all games in the contract, Bungie must provide Activision with a list of Easter eggs it has spliced into the game. Activision, following the certification process, must provide Bungie with the same list.

Each Bungie employee will receive two Activision games per year as a gift.
God bless the weird twists and turns of contract negotiations.

Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt there a government plan in place for people with Company provided Health insurance continuance (Temporarily) in the event of losing your job? I know I had info on stuff like this for my health insurance awhile back.
You are referring to COBRA insurance; it gives employees the right to pay the full cost of their current insurance plan for up to 18 months after being terminated or losing coverage through a reduction in hours.
The problem there is that COBRA plans tend to be very expensive, and you're talking about an additional monthly cost for someone who just lost their income.

Yes. All of these employes and dependents will qualify for the Cobra program for at least 18 months, if they can't find other jobs.
kojima and konami confirmed yesterday they have started work on a new ZoE game
!
Don't get excited yet. It's just a project they are working on. It's an idea that hasn't even been started on. It may actually never become a game.
well shit on my sundae why don't you
Sorry Jay. I love ZOE and would love a new game in the series. I just don't want to get my hopes up about a project and then get them dashed when nothing comes of it. I already did that once last year, and I can't do it again.
"You can imagine some cool features, for sure," Burleson said. "It's not hard to imagine some cool features."
The Wii U's power, though, is "one thing I can't talk about", he said. "Actually nailing the specs, they haven't come out with them yet."
But, the Wii U version of Aliens will "be better" than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version in terms of visuals, he confirmed. Why? Because of "more modern tech".
What Burleson is alluding to here is the suggestion that because the Wii U contains modern components, it will by default be more powerful than the ageing PS3 and Xbox 360.
How, exactly, will it be better? "You'll have to wait and see," Burleson teased. "Just trust me on that one."
It's fairly likely the PS4 doesn't have a Cell in it and its absence would basically kill PS3 BC full stop.
Didn't they confirm that a while back? I remember because we brought up the BC issues then.
I don't remember anything like that, but I do remember hearing a lot about how the Cell was a big impediment for developers. Maybe the talk came from people speculating that SONY would drop it.
Seems kind of ironic that MS learned their lesson from having a specially designed box for games is harder to deal with going forward, so as they abandon it, SONY does it like it would be a great idea.
We already know what happens if future hardware isn't at all similar to the older stuff. Even a little bit. And we also know what happens if the console requires special hardware just to run old games.
SONY's whole philosophy with the PS3 may really come back and bite them in the ass.
The PS3 has already bit them in the ass and did so before it was ever sold.
The RD loss combined with the huge losses they had to take on every PS3 sold for the first three years or so more than equals the entire profit of the Playstation product line.
Vita however is made from smartly selected off the shelf parts which will dramatically lower the cost of manufacture as time goes along and definitely saved them money on R&D. I imagine the PS4 will be done with the same idea in mind.
Regarding the Next Box though I think that unless some of the crazier rumors are true that thing will probably use the same basic ideas that the Wii U and 360 will. PPC multicore processor, AMD graphics. It will make BC a breeze.
MS has two plans for the nextbox. Expand Kinect, expand the reach of services on live gold. Everything else is gravy.
Word on the streets is that Sony will forego traditional CPU:s altogether and focus on an APU design instead, which could give them some form of back-comp with Cell but it seems unlikely.
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

They could always sell a separate "BC Add-On" plug-in processor attachment. It's highly unlikely, but Sony knows how to do it. They've done it with their laptops before.

This year's E3 presser is actually going to be devoted to hilarious dudes interacting with life-size PS characters.
I love the photoshopped PSP in the neckbeard's hand.
