It's a bit of a skill matchup to be honest. I wouldn't build a doran's shield on jax though. You win extended trades, but she wins when her true damage is up. Her true damage lets her build quite tanky and still do good damage to you in those trades, so there's that, but yeah, could go either way. You'll want to max empower probably in that matchup, because when you counter, she'll surge to a minion and get away from the stun if she's good anyway.
Speaking of Irelia getting her next, how do I be a dunkmaster all-star with Irelia?
My recollection of how she worked not long after her release is that it basically involves picking Irelia. I'm told that since then that has become less true, though; someone else probably has a better handle on her present incarnation.
High ELO dominion is roughly about the same 100 players and the tournaments only get around 100~200 views so yeah, High ELO dom doesn't trickle down very well. There is also no real public ranking you can easily check and with this patch they removed normal ELO visibility again (despite riotnome telling them we all loved seeing it) so you won't be able to use a third party app to check and record your ELO progress.
Also on the subject of items, the reason you see a lot of items that you won't normally ever pick up on SR is because if you are top lane then you are probably only getting 10k gold on average. As such you want a lot of really gold efficient mid tier items and aren't aiming to fill each slot with a really slot efficient high tier item.
For example a J4 build might look like:
Aegis, Brut, Phage, Warden's mail, Hexdrinker (not necessarily in this order)
All sitting in his inventory and then upgrading them as the need arises.
It's also why you don't see too many AD carries since a lot of the end game stars won't actually get the gold to go critical mass, and if they go bottom to farm then they will be ganked mercilessly.
If they found a way to implement a ranked ladder for dominion, I think it would really take off. I know I would play it a lot more often (that means even once every 4 months) if they did.

You need to crush her early, probably need a gank. DShield was the wrong way to go as well, Boots+3, DShield after that if you wish. Optional Philo+Vamp, go for Triforce.
I would run E-W-Q-W-W. You can punish her when she goes to last hit with auto->Empower. Whenever she stuns and pops Hiten Style, you can Counterstrike off the damage and counter. Her ult is better than yours at recovery, but in a straight fight you can use your ult to mitigate the damage and let your passive work for you. If you both start at full or even health, you will win a slugfest full commit fight, so don't be afraid of those. What you do fear is her jumping on you and getting ahead HP wise, because it's hard for Jax to come back from that vs her and you'll probably have to go back to avoid basically being behind all lane HP-wise since she rarely ever has to go back in a situation like that.

So anybody have any opinion on Malphite jungle? I have been playing tons of jungle lately, and trying out as many champs as possible that are good there. I've found I don't like playing the Rivens, Lee Sins, and Jaxes of league in the jungle, and really more prefer champs that have kits designed around ganking. Nautilus, Nocturne, and Maokai are my go to guys. If I'm feeling crazy aggressive and the other team jungles somebody I know I can kill, I'll go Olaf and try to kill the enemy jungler in his jungle, but it's the 3 I mentioned that I play most.
I like Malph as a champ, and I'd really just like to know how others feel about his jungle. I'll probably try him top sometime, but I don't play there too often. I feel like his kit is up my alley in terms of team fighting, with the AS debuff and the ult.
I want a champion who drives a battle tank. Like, make it a Yordle or whatever, and just put them in a Tiger chassis. Something big & metal with treads and a massive cannon.

Malph is a good jungle, just not as good as some of the others your mentioned that you like to play.
He clears fast, lasts a long time, and can gank fairly well, so he's really good all around and his ult, when done right, is amazing in team fights so his usefulness never tapers off, but I have defaulted to picking Maokai over him every time. This is partially because I am better as Maokai, but I think Mao is just a better pick, in general, unless you need to huge tank, which malph fills much better than Mao.

The funny thing is that Riven, Lee Sin, and Jax actually all gank really well. Riven often does a 2 gank with red and kills if the person isn't ready for it.
Malph is a really safe jungler and relatively fast. It sort of pigeonholes him into a certain build, though, so he's not nearly as versatile. I also feel that if you don't go at least some AD, then his clear times start getting slower and slower and more mana reliant as the game goes on.
