Driver is a very fun game. The shift mechanic really makes it stand out, and they thought up some smart modes with it.
The cars all feel 'heavy' and slide a lot, but once you get used to it the controls are fine.

The multi is also quite fun, but it really needs a full house and the public games are kinda dead. An additional problem is that by default everyone mic is full open and you can do nothing to change it outside of windows control (or download a windows push to talk program). Twice now I have encountered the dreaded static monster.

There really is no need in the game for 140 buyable cars though. If you can buy a Ford GT40, will you ever take out an Oldsmobile or the middle of the 5 bustypes out for a spin.

Didn't Need for Speed partly evolve and sell in a way because of Fast and the Furious?

I refer specifically to NFS post Hot Pursuit 2/beginning with Underground.

People have sorta forgotten the NFS series was ever anything but what it's been from Underground on, I think.

I know that after watching Fast & Furious 2 for the first time while at work one day, that I immediately got a fever and the only cure was Underground 2. It was the first actual racing game I have ever bought and owned.

I would love if the movie was just a higher budget retelling of the original Most Wanted. If anything though, of all the game franchises that could be scooped up and made into a movie with no respect to the actual game then its Need for Speed. Ain't gonna be no nerds raging that Nathan Fillion is perfect for Bad Boy Driver #3. Or that the Lotus Elise never would have fell in love with with Aston Martin DB9 as per NFS canon.

Cars going fast = Need for Speed

As for the Burnout franchise, Criterion definitely has not forgotten the series and its many fans. The studio put out the downloadable Burnout Crash! last year, but Ward was mum on the future of Burnout other than to say that the developer "[thinks] about it all the time.

Wow, ain't he a jerk. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy in any event, if such a scenario were to happen, people like him are the reason why this is the case.

Yeah, because most markets only have 2 main competitors, amirite? It's just so easy to root for "that one team" or "the other team".

Plus, Apple spent a while at that kids' table, and they're solid proof that fortunes can change very quickly in this field.

Anonymous sources confirming a leak is probably one of the most questionable kinds of anonymous statements. Totally useless. Couscous has the right of it anyway; lawyers taking action just kinda backfired on the issue.

I'm a little surprised at people's negative reactions to the 3DS XL, to keep this post on track. I've seen people complaining about the extended battery life not being extended 'enough,' which is like... I don't get it. It's a +. It is better. And it's being spun to be a negative? Wasn't there a hardware reiteration of a handheld once that SHORTENED battery life for something, once? Or am I imagining that?

Speaking for myself, I was hoping for more. Built-in second analog stick, better viewing angle for the 3D effect, a noticeable improvement to battery life. The 3DS XL just feels underwhelming. The biggest improvement as far as I'm concerned is that since the screen is bigger, you can play DS games at native resolution without everything being too small.

But eh, I'll probably pick one up sometime since I don't own a 3DS and it doesn't sound worse than the original.

Anarchy Reigns is 30 dollars at Gamestop, Buy.com, and Best Buy Canada. 30 dollars would probably be a good price if they want it to sell and not be absolutely crushed by every other multiplayer focused game.

    Yeah. 30 dollars seems reasonable.

I'm interested in Anarchy Reigns because it seems like an interesting concept but at the same time didn't seem to have much else going for it that I would pay 60 bucks for it.

The handling doesn't feel like Burnout, but it doesn't feel like NfS either. Next Steam sale you really should grab it, though. I love Burnout and hate other racing games (except DiRT, no idea why) and couldn't put it down for about a month.

Yeah, they had that exact same slogan when I applied to work at NISA in 2009.

Seems odd that they'd have the same person as president for both the Japanese & US branches. Feels like too much work for one person.

Well with a hardware revision that doesn't have it and as far as I can tell will not be able to have the official add on attached to it, it feels like the second stick is now officially being left to die. I would like to see devs encouraged to make it a control option.

The 3D sweet spot will probably be bigger since the screen is larger. I'm not sure how you'd produce an auto-stereoscopic screen with a wide viewing angle. The battery life is probably as long as it can be within a reasonable price range - the battery is powering two large screens, one of which double the resolution because of the 3D effect.

Economics 101 doesn't really require actual schooling. Some independent reading of online micro and macro resources should have you covered. Textbooks by either Mankiw or Krugman if you want to give a lot of your money to the insane textbook publishing industry.

With them "overseeing" all games, I hope they still have time for Burnout. Also, I hope they can get the quality of the portable NFS games up to scratch, because they are always utterly awful.

The should just slowly change it into Burnout.

Call the next one Need for Speed: Burning Run, then Need for Speed: Burning Out, then NFS: Burnout, then finally Burnout: A Need for Speed

From what I played, NFS: MW is Burnout Paradise 2 in all but name. The focus is on cops more than crashes, but the rest is all still there.

Fuck me, I read that as "Need For Speed: Modern Warfare" - I think we have too many abbreviated video game titles.

The better person will forever see MW as MechWarrior.

...damnit, I want to race 'mechs now.

Granted, a race would end up being something like five lights and one person driving a Atlas, who just turns and kills the other five as soon as the light goes green.

    ...So, Carmageddon-style racing.

Final Fantasy XI is the Most Profitable Final Fantasy Ever
As reported at Famitsu.com, Wada said of FFXI during his opening remarks, "Looking at profitability, it's the top of all past FF games."

Too bad XIV was such a terrible trainwreck, eh?

edit: And the driving force behind said game is leaving Square Einx.

Hiromichi Tanaka (FF11) leaves Square Enix
Tanaka is one of the founding members of Squaresoft. He worked on the earliest FF and SaGa games, and was also responsible as producer for the early Secret of Mana games, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and has been the main driving force behind FF11. After the failure of the FF14 launch he vanished from the public eye substantially.

Today we have reports that he has officially left Square Enix due to "health reasons".

I like how "health reasons" is in quotes there as if there's some obvious lie going on. If the guy is a founding member, he's been there for like 30 years. He's old enough for health reasons to actually be a fucking thing.
