VH’s Forgotten Dreams Giveaway: The Winners!
Okie dokie, here we go:
First place goes to @heenato who slipped in at the last moment (seriously, like 6 minutes before I closed the contest) with Doom 2 on May 23rd, 2010!
Second place goes to @CheesecakeRecipe who was also a late entry. He's getting Fallout 3 GOTY with a WGD of May 28th, 2010!
Third place is @DudemanX with Blur, placed on his wishlist on June 6th, 2010.
I'm pretty sure all three of these winners submitted their entries today. Which makes me wonder if I should have extended it, but OH WELL!
Anyway, that barely pushed me past $30, so I gave prizes to @Masume and @21stCentury as well, who had WGDs of July 3rd and July 10th, 2010, respectively. Curiously enough, they both wanted the same game, Space Rangers 2: Reboot.
At this point, I need to tell you a little bit of a story. You see, as of this morning, Masume and 21stCentury held the two earliest WGDs. Then, at 3rd place, was a goddamn 7-way tie. Apparently November 24th, 2010 was when Steam announced their big wishlist giveaway sweepstakes for the Thanksgiving sale of that year. I would have been perfectly willing to give out prizes to everybody involved in the tie, except that the total cost for those seven games was nearly $120!! That's twelve times the combined value of the at-the-time first and second place entries! I was agonizing over it because of the tremendous disparity; after all I had promised that if the first three winning games didn't cost at least $50 I would keep going.
Fortunately, heenato, Cheesecake, and Dudeman saved the day for me at the last minute. However, since I technically didn't hit $50, in honor of the emotional turmoil you all caused me, I've added all of those people to my Steam friends list (specifically @Professor_Snugglesworth@Sir_Carcass@HiT_BiT@ToyD@MoosehatIV@Pharezon@Vegan ) and I'll do my level best to get you at least one game off your wishlist before the sale is over.
The five winners have been added to my friends list as well; please accept my requests so I can more easily send you your gifts!
Thanks to everybody who participated! I got almost 25 entries, and I was honestly kind of surprised how long some games languish on wishlists!
Using Firefox with the "Reload Every..." plugin (I also hear Opera has the function built-in), I set it to automatically refresh every 3 seconds.
As soon as I saw a new code pop, I click-drag to highlight, Ctrl + C to copy, click into the already-open key redemption window in Steam, then quickly Ctrl + V and hit enter.
It takes maybe 3-4 seconds max once you get the process down, but even then it took me about 15 tries before I finally got one that hadn't been used already. These people are fast.
This is super weird. When I played Crysis 2 yesterday, it was in English. When I'm starting it now, it's in Chinese. The language is set to English in the game's properties in Steam.
I guess I'll try if setting it to something else and back to English works.

I have entered so many train giveaways on SteamGifts. I dont want to pay for it because, really, how often am I going to play it, but I do want to play it.
On the plus side its finally given me something to use my SteamGifts points on.
So setting Crysis 2 to German works (but I don't actually want it in German). Setting it to English still gives me Chinese. Maybe I should see if Chinese gives me English. Trying to verify cache first.

Hah. Thanks. I initially wasn't going to enter because I thought all my wishlist items were from like 2011 or later, but it was at the last moment that I actually noticed Doom 2's date.
Bought Civ5 when it was on flash deal and think I need an intervention. Just.... One.... More.... Turn!

Thanks @VisibleHowl for the neat contest idea and early thanks for FO3! For a while I thought I wasn't going to be able to enter because the only other 2010 game I had on my list was Indigo Prophecy, and as much as I'd have liked to see you make that wish come true on steam I knew it wouldn't happen. Til I was cleaning out some space on my wishlist and noticed FO3 having an earlier date.
Much thanks to @Visiblehowl for helping me to clear out my wishlist in the classiest of ways! I honestly thought there were going to be folks earlier than me, and while I was right the fact that it didn't happen until just today is hilarious. I remember wanting Space Rangers 2 for *ages* but I always ended up passing on it because supposedly it had some horribly bad DRM. Not sure if that's the case any longer but I doubt it matters with windows 7 any longer. Time to install and check this puppy out!

I already own Empire & Napoleon Total War, I tried a bit of Empire and I'm a little ovewhelmed by the scale of it having never played a Total War game before, are either Rome or Medieval II better introductions to the series?
Hm. Maybe Medieval II?
I guess my realy advice is just to jump in - maybe start with Napoleon's campaigns from Napoleon? They're a bit more focused.
But M2 is my favorite so far (plus, there's a hella sweet Lord of the Rings Mod for it), so maybe that one will be more to your taste.

Just to build on this Rome was my introduction to Total War and it remained my favorite for a long time. If youre thinking about getting it, Id say just get it because its good. For what its worth, I also found Empire to be a little overwhelming when I first loaded it up.

Im digging the shit out of Shogun 2 though.
So I'm talking with my friend who has just gotten CK2 as well. We're going on about the games we have that we've not put enough time into, so he's playing Rome:Total War and said he will complete a campaign in that game before moving on. So as we talk back and forth I mention my lack of time in Shogun 2 and said that some of it's due to not growing with the Series and jumping straight in at Shogun 2 makes it a bit daunting. So a little time goes by and Boom, he gifts me the Rome: Total War Gold Edition and say's "Get learning on how to play!". Damn friends :P
edit: He's now told me his master plan. He's going to play at least one campaign through in Rome, then on to Barbarian Invasion, then Alexander and then Medieval 2. He's got all the Total War games but never finished a campaign in any. I fear for my own GameBank as he changes to the games I don't own already.
Since its still in the Top 5 at only -20%, I'm convinced ARMA2 is holding out for the last day to go 33% off, if at all.
Shut it! GOSH!
If the seriously don't give it a 50% or more sale, then they're losing my money. I'll just wait for it to get a decent deal on Amazon and buy it there with my meager gift card balance.

Wife would leave me. Then I would have more time for games, though... I don't even think my PC could play it, also.

SimCity 4 is good, and worth $5 if youre into that sort of game. 2000 is great, 3000 was better and I think 4 is a slight improvement over 3000.

I probably would have broken down and bought it this time, if the deal hadn't ended before I got home.

:^: :^: many thanks for the recommendation
Have you considered that this might just be a new difficulty option they've added, and forgot to mention?

In that case, shouldn't it be Korean?

Probably a little of both. Just to be safe.
On the bright side, renaming the file for English to the file for Chinese seems to have worked as a workaround.
Thanks guys, looks like Rome is the one to get then
No wait, that's tomorrow, but close enough.
He's too classy for silent 'o's.
EDIT: and the Thief games too!! AHHHH!
