    I have to admit....I've never played a Simcity D:

Would Simcity 4 be a good one to start with? I always hear about how great Simcity 2000 is, it's just...y'know...Steam.

re-quoted myself! I need the Steam Thread's invaluable advice.

SimCity 4 is good, and worth $5 if youre into that sort of game. 2000 is great, 3000 was better and I think 4 is a slight improvement over 3000.

:^: :^: many thanks for the recommendation :D

It's important to note that Simcity 4 can have a steep learning curve. I absolutely, completely, totally loved the game. But it doesn't grab everyone right away. It's a sandbox game. I can't remember if the expansion (included in deluxe) had any scenarios (outside of tutorial scenarios) but you get to/must create the city you want. Or more, you create an environment that you hope will produce the type of city you want and help/hope it grows. But there are ALOT of options there.

You can make farming communities, bedroom suburb towns with high tech industry nearby, big dirty manufacturing towns, giant commercial centers, etc... But it's really up to you. After you've messed around with it, there are lots of mods and tweaks an additions that I can only assume are still hosted at http://www.simtropolis.com/ (for example: many people don't find the base commute times and speed limits realistic, and the route finding algorithm sims use to get to and from work in the base game is a little off).

Since its still in the Top 5 at only -20%, I'm convinced ARMA2 is holding out for the last day to go 33% off, if at all.

    Shut it! GOSH!

If the seriously don't give it a 50% or more sale, then they're losing my money. I'll just wait for it to get a decent deal on Amazon and buy it there with my meager gift card balance.

Have to agree. I can't see anyone at Bohemia agreeing to sell the game at a deep discount, even temporarily, when it's so incredibly popular right now.

Don't know why I'm tempted by that Total War pack. I never have the patience to actually fight all the battles and I have Paradox games for grand strategy.

    And yet...

They'd have to be pretty thick to NOT put it on sale. That'd be like baking a fresh pie and then eating the tin; meaning, it should be a fucking obvious choice.

    Sales=more money.
psuedo edit: had a nice Newellian slip while typing that. The first three drafts of this post had "buy" in place of "pie" and I didn't notice until right before I hit post. Steam is getting to my brain, I think.

The wrong niche RPG is on sale - Two Worlds 2 and the expansion need to go up for sale. Lots of customization, a really fun and intricate magic system, and a huge world. I find Risen to be sort of janky and clumsy.

Not to say Two Worlds 2 is extremely fluid, but the combat is actually really good.

Oh, really? I think it's 50 percent off right now, did it go lower than that? I've been meaning to pick up the expansion.

I accidentally scrolled too fast when checking the flash so Risen 2 and Terraria blurred together and for a second I thought Risen 2 was 75% off and I was like aww yeah pirate time but then my eyes caught up with reality and I realized it was only 33% off so now I'm sad.

It was pretty cheap. I picked it up along with the expansion because I played it on 360 and loved it but wasn't interested in being gouged in the wallet. So I did the classic "Steam Sale Double Dip" because AMERICA that's why.

It really is a great game and I wish more people knew that. Sailing! Spells that rain anvils from the sky! Pitch-black labyrinths! It's got everything!

I bought Sim City 4 last sale and couldn't get it to play on any of my machines. Vista/Windows 7. Haven't tried since last year, maybe they fixed the issues it has with modern systems?

well, it looks like a bunch of people on my friends list have played it, so maybe it just hated me.

quoting from the old thread in case anyone can answer
I already own Empire & Napoleon Total War, I tried a bit of Empire and I'm a little ovewhelmed by the scale of it having never played a Total War game before, are either Rome or Medieval II better introductions to the series?

    Hm. Maybe Medieval II?

I guess my realy advice is just to jump in - maybe start with Napoleon's campaigns from Napoleon? They're a bit more focused.

But M2 is my favorite so far (plus, there's a hella sweet Lord of the Rings Mod for it), so maybe that one will be more to your taste.

Just to build on this Rome was my introduction to Total War and it remained my favorite for a long time. If youre thinking about getting it, Id say just get it because its good. For what its worth, I also found Empire to be a little overwhelming when I first loaded it up.

Im digging the shit out of Shogun 2 though.

So I'm talking with my friend who has just gotten CK2 as well. We're going on about the games we have that we've not put enough time into, so he's playing Rome:Total War and said he will complete a campaign in that game before moving on. So as we talk back and forth I mention my lack of time in Shogun 2 and said that some of it's due to not growing with the Series and jumping straight in at Shogun 2 makes it a bit daunting. So a little time goes by and Boom, he gifts me the Rome: Total War Gold Edition and say's "Get learning on how to play!". Damn friends :P

edit: He's now told me his master plan. He's going to play at least one campaign through in Rome, then on to Barbarian Invasion, then Alexander and then Medieval 2. He's got all the Total War games but never finished a campaign in any. I fear for my own GameBank as he changes to the games I don't own already.

There always comes a point (for me at least) when I could crush 'X' faction, but waiting the turns for my roflstomp army to get there from the last stomping is too much work.

What does NFS use for your friend's list? It didn't appear to pull them from my EA account, nor is it seeing Steam friends. I know on the 360 demo it pulled friends right from LIVE, but does it use its own separate thing on PC?

Friend confusion aside, the game is super fun and really fuckin' pretty.

Nope. Would not buy that bitch.
    But $5 each? You bet!

In fact if they broke games into pieces, like half of each game for $2.50 I'd buy it even harder.
