Vista Problem

Hey everyone. I'm having a very strange problem with Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Every so often (and this seems to happen totally randomly -- ie: every 30
seconds or every hour) I seem to get "locked" into whatever application I am
currently using. When this happens I can still scroll around in the
application and click links, type, etc. However, if I try and click on the
task bar or start button nothing happens. Likewise, if I click on the desktop
nothing happens.

I have found a temporary fix. If I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the
screen, then click cancel I can interact with everything normally. However,
the problem seems to manifest itself again no matter how many times I apply
this "fix."

Furthermore, the problem seems to be related to using applications (although
not one specifically). If I leave my computer on overnight and come back to I
can click on everything normally. However, once I start using different
applications the problem manifests itself eventually.

For reference the programs I am using include everything from Firefox,
Thunderbird, IE7, Adobe Reader 8, Photoshop CS2, etc.
