Jury Duty is a delightful film starring this man:
A little bit about it, from Wikipedia
Jury Duty is a 1995 comedy film directed by John Fortenberry and starring Pauly Shore, Tia Carrere, Stanley Tucci, Brian Doyle-Murray, Shelley Winters, and Abe Vigoda.
When Tommy Collins (Pauly Shore), an unemployed stripper living at his parents' home, finds out that his parents are going on a private getaway for a few months and taking the mobile home with them, he decides that he needs to find a place for him and his chihuahua Peanut to stay.
By a stroke of luck he is called up for jury duty and he must be sequestered for the duration of the trial. Collins prolongs the trial with meaningless debate in an effort to stay in the lap of luxury. In the process he irritates his fellow jurors and inadvertently makes a break in the case. The movie features a host of courtroom antics performed by Shore and his cohorts.
This movie was based on the teleplay, Twelve Angry Men, which itself was adapted into film in 1957 starring Henry Fonda.
Feel free to talk about Pauly Shore films if you want (Son in Law is his best), but more importantly I was sent my first juror summons today!
I am
unreasonably excited. Even if the case is something relatively dull. I've always wanted to serve on a jury, and I can't believe it took over eight years of eligibility for me to finally get my letter.
So, here's hoping I get selected
Obviously I can't be talking about the case in here, but you're allowed to when the trial is over, so who else here has done their civic duty over the years? Interesting stories? I wanna
know, man.

the kid with the mustache is a guaranteed laugh
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
first time i did the thing where you call in the day before and they said they didn't need me
second time i made it to voir dire but didn't get picked, made it to like the top 24
also, that Pauly Shore movie is based on Twelve Angry Men???
doody
Also Jury Duty is poop. I'll still serve if I get the notice but I'll have my fingers crossed I don't have to miss work for another slam-dunk sexual harassment trial where both defendant and his accusers seem like full-on scumbags.
I know it's not a good film
But man...love that movie
@Lewie P's Stepdad never done told me bout his experiences.
I'll never get to know since I'm an attorney. I've only ever heard of it happening once, and that was huge news in the legal community.
Someone was dumb enough to let an attorney through voir dire.
They also attempted to switch out the fake bills through some kind of used car trading thing, and the prosecutor pretty much winked every time he said "their money laundering operation."
probably because the only way that movie works is if it was animated
and it wasn't, so it was just so awful
i remember in high school, a girl i really liked showed me that movie. my disdain was so palpable she asked me if i'd rather watch something else, and i was visibly happier knowing i didn't have to sit through it any more.
I'd kind of like to get summoned again and see what it's like

Why the hell haven't we had an awesome, serious Hollywood take on The Most Dangerous Game?
Don't loosely adapt it and throw it into the city or something
It is a short story that is fucking ripe and juicy and waiting to be picked
He wasn't as good as the local dude who opened for him.
Like seriously he spent most of the time staring at the breasts of a woman near the stage.
He made Exactly 1 funny joke about the mall that got torn down and the area around it that is right off the turnpike.
You hang out with old people, wait a long time, then get asked a bunch of questions and likely eliminated from the pool.
mmmm, old people

also, the day i went happened to be "jury appreciation day" so i got a bunch of sweet coupons and a little gift bag of trinkets
Abraham Lincoln was a terrible, terrible movie.
But oh so entertaining.

Pauly Shore would be the ugliest woman
Pretty much.
Or they cancel it even earlier.
My first time up wasn't too bad. Had a Stephen King book to read while sitting around and waiting. Got a ride from a mildly attractive girl to the second site.
Both parties agreed to settle out of court, and I walked a couple miles to get to a bus stop.
Bought a Belle and Sebastian CD on the walk. Decent day, all in all.
Why I fear the ocean.
Defense first question, "Where do you work?"
Me: "Sherriff's Office".
Defense: "Dismissed."
Which is really too bad, since I still believe in Jury Nullifcation for certain cases, even if the Supreme Court looks down upon it.
Next time they ask where you work, tell them you believe in jury nullification instead and see how that goes.

All it would mean is that the prosecution would then drop me. I'd probably get a stern talking from the judge as well.
Just had to call a number for like a week or two and see if my group was called up
Nope!
Does it work differently from state to state?
Mine says to just call the weekend prior to the date reported
I guess? I remember the letter telling me I had to call every day.
