Would be nice if they didn't just stop with a iOS port. If they're going to be re-designing it for a single-screen audience, what about a Vita version? Big touch screen *plus* actual buttons to work with.
That would be too much work. Plus they probably want to sell some copies.
Because, based on the thread reaction, it's going to sell so well on iOS. :rotate:

I'm also annoyed by SE's continual testing of higher and higher App store prices. I'm not arguing that games that are full of content are inherently worth less because they're on the app store, but Square keeps pushing the mark up on their re-releases by a buck or two every time, and it's pretty clearly an attempt to figure out precisely how much they can get away with charging for old ports.
Again, I love TWEWY, and I paid roughly twenty bucks for the game 2 or 3 years back, so this is a good deal all around. I just with it was a little less obvious when they, as a company, are trying to gauge exactly how much they can extract from me.
The PR difference between their PC division and their console and handheld crew is fucking baffling.
There's really no reason to buy anything on the App Store (unless it's already 99 cents) that isn't on sale. That's when I've bought the Chaos Rings sequels, because the full price was a waste (even though it's a great game, I felt cheated).

So anyway, has anyone actually bought this?
Was under the impression it wasn't out until the 28'th.

Actually looks like it's up on the app store now, just found it while looking through some of their older games to see how they were originally priced.

Comes out August 27th, so I assume it went up at midnight eastern.

so, when they say that the game comes with the soundtrack, does that mean the soundtrack can be downloaded to the iTunes library? or is it only accessible through the game?
Oh, there it is. No wonder I couldn't find it when searching in the store, looks like it requires a iDevice v4, and my iPod is only third-gen.

No, Square Enix, no. You're not listening.
HD Remix ≠ Sequel
I should be happy that people that have iDevices and not a DS/3DS get another chance to try out a great game, but something about this screams moneygrab and unnecessary experimentation.
Wake me up when they port it to Android so I can flip them the bird and not buy it on a device I actually own.
(I do in fact own an iPhone4, but it's a work phone, and that's what I use it for: work. That means no appstore purchases. So not buying it there doesn't count.)
So, the game is 19.99 on iTunes, and I was given a $25 iTunes gift card last week I haven't used yet. I had been planning on saving it for Baldur's Gate, but this game seems to have gotten good reviews. In 20 words or less, is it worth it and why?
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

No, because we don't want to encourage this behavior.
I bought TWEWY when it first came out, couldn't get used to the combat system, and gave the game to my cousin without even finishing the second week of the story. A few weeks ago I asked for it back, thinking I would beat it this time. Instead, I got fed-up without even finishing the first week. I actually showed a couple of my friends that knew nothing about TWEWY what the combat was like and they couldn't believe how ridiculous it was.
I can win fights just fine; I just don't feel satisfied when I do because the game constantly makes me feel like I'm terrible at it even when I'm winning.

Try not being so bad at the game maybe, or accept that it's not for you.
Hexmage, just do what I did: spam the top screen without looking at it in order to get the puck back to Neku, where you can proceed to wreck shit. It'll more than get you through the game, and the story is worth it, because it was a really entertaining little tale.
With all the hoopla about the countdown and then iOS reveal, I realized I never got more than a few hours into the game before I traded it away. Ordered a brand new DS copy from Amazon for $20, gonna actually finish it this time, dammit!
What I like about the combat is how many options there are for Neku's pins. I'm experimenting with a deck that uses Cornix, Spider's Silk, and the Over-The-Top set for endless stone rain.
I am pretty sure that when something flops they try to find out why it flops. So I'm sure that you don't need to buy the things you hate with hopes that it will mean they will make another. I imagine one look at twitter will show them people loved twewy but were pissed off it was an ios port
Well they did suggest that poor sales of the over-priced Chrono Trigger DS led them to believe there was no interest in the franchise. Jokingly, but it indicates the thought is there.

Did it? I thought CT did fairly well on DS. Dunno about the iOS version though.

Chrono Trigger DS sold 490,000 copies in Japan, 240,000 in North America and 60,000 in Europe as of March 2009.
"Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?" he laughed. We told him it's a very loved series. "That's not what the sales tell me!" he responded.
"If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"
Somehow just shy of a million worldwide sales of a ten-year old port priced ten bucks over the standard price of DS games and a limited marketing campaign wasn't enough interest.
So, buying TWEWY guarantees nothing save Square deciding that the 20 dollar price point is viable for future phone releases, but not buying it in sufficient quantities guarantees it will be taken as evidence that we don't want more TWEWY.
Wow, there's a lot of indignation in this thread. I mean, it sucks to get led on, but still... Yeesh.
I never got this for my DS (phat), and now that I have an iPhone/iPad I'll probably grab it for one of those. I just don't really carry around portable gaming systems now that I have a phone that is actually pretty capable as a portable game system. My biggest beef though is that the iPad version isn't universal. I'm sure it has a different set of art assets and everything, but after S&S: EP, Ghost Trick, Walking Dead, Anomaly, and a host of other games I'd just kind of hoped that this would become the norm.
I don't know if the person playing it is just doing it on purpose, but those battles look so boring. Maybe it's because he's doing nothing until Shiki arrives.
I forgot about the delightfully on the nose emo tone the game starts off with considering it has such an overall upbeat vibe to it.
But yeah, that makes the game look absolutely terrible. I might have to go start a new game just to see if it was really that boring and awful looking at the beginning. I'm wondering if that's a side-effect of not having the second screen. Regardless of whether it was supremely skill-based or not, it gave the battles an extremely frantic feeling that was kind of key.

chances are poor sales will make them think "gee, guess people don't care about this IP anymore, better not risk it."
this feels a lot like they're gauging interest for more stuff later

It's lose-lose.
If you buy it, they learn to mine more IPs for iOS ports.
If you don't buy it, they learn that no one wants TWEWY.
Neither of these outcomes leads to a TWEWY sequel. So, your choice is between shitty iOS ports and no TWEWY, or just no TWEWY.
Try not being so bad at the game maybe, or accept that it's not for you.
Single screen action is just what it needs.

I don't see why interest in the iOS version couldn't lead to more attention for the IP.
It might unfortunately be more phone stuff, but better than nothing.

Reserving judgement until I try it, but that certainly sounds like a lot of the depth and strategy just got cut out.
