Contacts? We never see her eyes in the first place, do we?
You can see the rims of glasses.
Consider her low self-esteem and poor self-image, it's not surprising that she'd be a mousy, nerdish type. After the events of the first game, it's not unfeasible that she redid her look.
And that guy was definitely not talking in words about this, but I suppose it's possible he was thinking it to himself.
I can't find the post anymore, but didn't he say "I knew you were expecting X, but you got Y and you're disappointed"? In the same post he talked a bit about what was good about the iOS-port.
I do like the theory that Shiki and Eri hit the "big time", and Mr. Mew is now a popular toy, though
Yeah, I agree with this - I think we're looking at a new character here. TWEWY1 wrapped up Neku and co.'s stories in a neat little bow; it's hard to see how anyone who isn't Joshua, Hanekoma, Kariya and Uzuki, or maybe Minamimoto could fit into a sequel.
It's possible that it's Shiki herself, as we didn't get a good look at her. All she'd have to do is grow her hair out and wear contacts.

What about Rhyme?

Rhyme was mostly a plot device, but I'll concede that they could reuse her. I just don't know how though.
Hmm the thing I find interesting about that image is:
The girl doesn't particularly look like anyone we have seen, but she has both mr. Mew as well as Neku style headphones. So yeah my money is on her being Neku/Shiki's kid.

Didn't Kariya, Uzuki and Minamimoto all get erased?

Minamimoto's a point of contention since his body was still there. As for Kariya and Uzuki, IIRC the last time we saw them, they were just unconscious.

Really? I might remember wrong, but I thought Neku and Beat had to erase them to save themselves when they went berserk.

I *could* be forgetting something, but I'm pretty sure they fought K&U, won, then just sort of left them there.
Random question: would TWEWY (DS) be a good introductory game for somebody who has never played a JRPG before? I'm thinking of picking up a game for my girlfriend and she hasn't really had much experience with videogames so far.
Contacts? We never see her eyes in the first place, do we?

Given that like half of Shiki's character arc was about getting over her low confidence/body image issues and she came out of it with friends who would definitely not give her a hard time about it, "unfeasible" is almost exactly the word I'd use.
I like the theory that Mr. Mew became a popular mass-produced toy better, since the expectation for resurrected players is that they leave some sort of impact on the rest of the world with their art.
Also, I'm going to rain on everybody's parade by predicting that the "new 7 days" will turn out to be iOS-exclusive DLC and we all end up burning Square-Enix in effigy.
The game isn't really standard JRPG fare, either in gameplay, story, or setting. Well, maybe story, but definitely not gameplay or setting.
Much as I love the game, I don't think I'd recommend it to someone who's new to gaming in general. The battle system gets pretty complex, dealing as it does with asymmetrical real-time battles on both screens at once (using a different control scheme for each screen). It'd be especially difficult for someone who isn't used to games. Heck, it's tricky for some people who are.
I might point you to another JRPG, like FFVI Advance, not because TWEWY isn't a blast, but because it's simply not a good introductory game.
Cool, thanks. I might hold off on the game then. Which should be easy seeing as it's difficult to get a hold of anyway.
Are there any other games people might recommend? There doesn't seem to be a proper DS thread anymore, and since I was leaning towards something with more depth I thought something JRPG-related like TWEWY might be a good fit.
I would still suggest getting the game, for yourself if nothing else.
As for JRPGs on the DS... Is it an old DS that can play GBA games? Because Final Fantasy VI Advance and V Advance are both great games. IV DS is also nice, but I'd stay away from III DS since it's freaking hard. Four Heroes of Light is also fun, but it's almost as hard as III.
TWEWY isn't really a JRPG, but it has an unmistakeable "Shibuya-Aesthetic" that you wouldn't get from a game from any other region than Japan.
For straight up Ol' Skoo JRPG's you've got stuff like Golden Sun Dark Dawn, a plethora of Dragon Quest games, the Final Fantasy DS releases, and after those you start getting into some of the more obscure and perhaps not-so-JRPG names which would be hard to come by these days anyway. Stuff like Soma Bringer, Solatorobo, Infinite Space and Lunar Knights.
Zephiran on
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
Dragon Quest V is the best introductory RPG on the DS. If she enjoys that, you could co-op your way through DQIX as well.
TWEWY isn't too bad once you've got a bit of gaming experience - keep the hp slider at max, put the difficulty on easy and leave your partner on auto and she won't have any problems. One of my favourite things about that game is its wonderfully scalable difficulty, actually.
Of course, ratcheting your level down a tad cn actually help you in the long run. I'm replaying the game with my level ratcheted down by about 10, and I'm getting so many drops. At a certain point, a loss of 10 levels isn't that bad, either.

On the other hand, difficulty-settings are really flexible in it. But I figure something turnbased is good for introductions. And Chrono Trigger is super-charming.
Fake edit: Ninjad by Shen.
On a sidenote, I almost never went above half my level. When I did, it was just for fun or in character. I know for certain I went full Super Saiyan on some boss, but I don't remember what it was exactly.
Well, Level only changes your HP and drop rate, so it's not that hard to ratchet things down. Plus, all that extra drop rate means you get loadsapins, which is always fun. I love the variety in psychs.
Where can you get a good Pyrokinesis pin? I'm on W2D7 on my re-run, and I still don't have anything but that starter pin. I did snag a Flame Blast pin, though: Tin Pin Sunscorch.
Aw just perfect. It's too lat for me to get FSSF, and too early for me to find any Noise that drop its evolutions. Guess I'm stuck with Izanami and Blast Warning as my best Pyrokinesis pins for a while. I'd use Tin Pin Sunscorch, but I'm facing Uzuki and Kariya; they're way too fast for stationary attacks like Flame Blast and Scratch Discharge. I need something that can chase after them.
lolita bat should be obtainable around there, lets you juggle whoever is on nekus screen a large amount of the time. Combine with Ice Riser and your slashy pins and you can stick to pretty much anyone. Something I discovered on my last playtrough is that the blow in micorphone slash in a circle around yourself pins all do absurd damage, so pick up one of those if you can.
Pretty much any variation on slashing is a safe, reliable bet. Also rising ice-launcher. I'm pretty sure there was a projectile I liked, but it's been a while.
if you look at Shiki real face (what you can see of it) you see her chin line is pointy but this girl does not have a pointy chin line from what i can see. so unless it a new look/drawing (i can not tell with the hand in the way) that is not shiki.
Started playing this again, took a while to get back in the swing of things. Forgot just how much fun this is. Also wondering if we might be looking at a WiiU based sequel rather than a handheld.
I can get behind this either being an entirely new character or Rhyme. Because the Shibuya exists to make Rhyme suffer. (Plus, Rhyme's the least developed "hero" of the story and so the one who'd get the most out of playing a big role in the sequel. I don't buy the whole Shiki/Neku kid thing. She doesn't look like either of them and a time-skip of twenty years would be kind of jarring.
Edit: Wait, Rhyme had blue eyes so... eh. Also having the protagonist of the sequel being the child of the protagonist of the previous game is just a dumb, lazy cliche.

As long as it was subverted it could work. Like, she's perfectly happy with life, creative etc and gets dragged in there by
Josh
to become the new Composer or something. Or maybe the dude just digs on her.
Unlikely, dude is totally gay.
I don't think she's gonna be anyone's spawn though. I think it'd be awesome if Eri and Shiki's design thing took off and they were actually a shop with threads in the game (though I guess that'd be deviating from the Chinese Zodiac of the first). There could be all sorts of callbacks - Beat and Rhyme doing standup, Neku as the new premier graffiti artist, Kariya running Shadow Ramen, Uzuki as the new Producer.
I wonder, have there been any new stores that have taken off in Shibuya since TWEWY? Everything ingame is based on an actual place, after all.
E: Hahaha oh man, how awkward would it be the first time Shiki introduced Neku to Eri.
