with an elected congressman he sorta by definition represents the people who voted for him, and in a political party system that means he represents the same party you voted for, if you did vote for that party
so honestly at what point does a person really just need to stop and say "okay there's just no defending this group of people anymore. I still have my beliefs but I want out of the group."
