My Facebook account has been hacked

So I haven't logged into the thing in about 3 years and there's no personal info in it except my name but it seems like it's suddenly sending out spam to everyone. I have no way of accessing Facebook from work, is there a way to tell Facebook customer service via email or phone?

If it's been sending SPAM for 3 years, I'm sure it can wait a couple of hours until you can address the issue from your home computer.

It hasn't, it just started this morning. Thus my use of the word "suddenly".

Still, can't this wait? It's Facebook, not burning house.

Even if you wanted to call/email them, their fixing the problem would be much, much slower than it would be if you just waited to get home to fix the issue yourself.

Does it matter to you that much? If you can't answer the question just stay out of the thread.

They have to fix the problem anyway. The last thing I did with the account was tell them to delete it.
And again, seriously, I don't need responses telling me why I shouldn't have asked the question. If there isn't a way, fine, but this constant picking at WHY I asked is really getting old. It happens almost every time I post a question here.

You know looking through their page I don't see any way at all to contact support. o_O

BUT if you have a friend who uses it and is available, you can have them report your account as hacked and get it secured through the facebook interface.

Is it sending messages in Facebook or are friends getting emails from "Facebook" with your name? Those are two very separate things. You can spoof who is send an email in 30 seconds.

facebook doesn't have phone or email based support, no. It all goes through the website.

You don't get to ask for specific advice around here. If you have a problem, there are probably ways to solve it outside the box that you didn't think of, and people suggesting those ways might come up with a solution you never considered.

I really wasn't trying to be an ass, or tell you that you shouldn't have asked that question. I was just trying to tell you that there isn't an email/phone number for support (that I'm aware exists), and that support for this kind of thing usually isn't handled or replied to even in the same day. Your original post suggested that you could do it at home if you waited, but wanted it handled faster than that. Going Ceres's route may be the way to get the fastest response to this issue.

Much like YOU don't get to tell people what they can and can't say. People absolutely do get to ask for specific advice around here, and his point was valid. He asked a question that no one answered, opting instead to say things like "just wait till you get home." That is not an answer to his question. No matter how many times you say it, it fails to answer the question asked, and that's all there is to it. Frustration toward that is understandable.

So stop pretending you're a mod, and if you can't answer the damn question find something else to do.

It's actually surprisingly hard to "delete" a Facebook page, by their own design. They do have a full on delete, but it is buried way out of the way in some obscure menus. They have a much more easily located "suspend" kind of delete, where they take down all your information but they keep it stored on their servers in case you ever want to return to the service.

If you did suspend it, not delete it, then (if you remember your log in) you can hop back onto it, change the password, and then re-shut it down, or fish around and find the full delete button, either of which would fix the spam issue.

If you don't remember your password, there is a "my friend's page was hacked!" support button under Facebook's help menu, ask one of your friends to report your account as breached and go from there.

If you did full on delete it, and you're sure that's the one you did, then find out if the spam is actually on Facebook, showing up in the newsfeed or private messages, or if it's showing up in people's email inboxes. Like someone said above, if it's being emailed around, there's nothing much you can do except have your friends block that email.

EDIT: Speaking of obtuse menus, they do have help if you don't have an account, it can be located here.

the 'a friend was hacked' button just refers you to the 'I was hacked' page.

I'm not sure how their 'I was hacked' page really helps you if you don't remember your password (or the attacker changed it), but I didn't really want to lock my account and work through all the options to figure it out
