Executables are deleted after downloading

Any executable I download goes away when I download it, whether it's FF, Chrome, or IE. It stops happening in Firefox if I disable virus checking through about:config, and it doesn't happen in other browsers if I save the files with an extension other than .exe. I'm using MSE and Windows 7 64 bit.

Seems like a weird bug in the automatic malware scanning in the browsers. I use Chrome, so it'd be nice if I didn't have to fire up Firefox to download things. I don't download many things, but it's still irritating. Anyone have a solution? I even went as far as watching file system activity with Process Monitor (sysinternals) and didn't see a file deletion.

edit: I forgot to mention that Firefox downloads without issue if I switch to another Windows user account

Lots of people are having the same cross-browser problem after the last update. Weird.
