I was thinking I should play as a Soldier since that so far seems the simplest class.

I've got concepts for an ace pilot (former fighter pilot turned blockade runner/specforce insertion/commando type guy) and a more straight up commando/sabatour type as well. I don't know which one to run with. Any suggestions?

I thought about a runaway jedi youngling who grew up to be a cranky bounty hunter, but I'd totally be ripping off the great concept that is Cade Skywalker. :)

I like the idea of an ace pilot a bit more than the average commando myself.

Do Droid Commander talents work with droid-follower NPCs gained from the basic Squad Leader tree?

  • SakutianSakutian Registered User regular
Yeah I believe the Droid Commander talents would work with the droid-follower NPCs.

Ok. I was just thinking that my character could be a former member of the Droid Army, having been guarding a backwater Separatist base only for it to be taken over by Clone-Troopers. Needed elsewhere, the CTs fixed up and reprogrammed the fallen droids to watch over the base for the Republic, which lasted until the Empire finally noticed the base and took control. Most of the droids were scrapped while others like mine were re-purposed into labor. The guys in charge of that were kinda lazy as they didn't quite nip all the military programming and tended to abuse the restraining bolt put on him and others. That comes to a head during a Rebel raid as during the firefight between them and the base's guards my character's shot right on the bolt, knocking him down. Both sides get a surprise a moment later when the dropped 'labor' droid has gotten his hands on a blaster and has started shooting up the Imperials, following it up after the battle by asking the Rebels if it can join them to shoot up more troopers.

It's just an idea I had and hopefully not too Mary Sueish or silly. If it is, I'm fine coming up with something a little different for a non-droid character.

Okay, here's what I've put together. If there are any jedi in the party Jado can be the padawan, and if not I think she can probably stand on her own (given the dearth of actual Jedi running around). Very open to relationships with anyone, feel free to suggest stuff :)

    Background:
Jado Der'Merra was a quiet orphan girl of about 11, living on the grimy crime-riddled streets of the capital of Balosar when her life took a turn for the unexpected. Jado was a nascent telepath, able to project her thoughts to others, and happened to use her ability to warn a friend of the arrival of a human (a rarity on these streets). Unfortunately for Jado (or fortunately, as she later came to believe), the human was actually a washed out Padawan named Titus Antares.

Once he tracked her down and explained that she seemed to be very strong in the force, and that she could have a life outside the squalor of Balosar, she readily accepted. Over time, the two became close- part master and student (though Titus denies vehemently that he could be her Master), part father and daughter (as each had lost their real daughter/father before), the pair would quickly become inseparable.

4 years later, at the age of 15, she is an independent young woman who firmly supports the Rebel alliance and yearns to do her part for the cause, and whose mastery of the force is surpassed by very few left in the galaxy. Several think that she will play a large role in restoring the Jedi order, if she can survive long enough of course.

    Questions!

    1. How long has your character been a part of the Alliance? 4 years (since she left Balosar at 11)
    2. Why did your character choose to fight against the Empire? Jado has always believed that everyone deserves happiness and respect- pretty much the opposite of what the Empire is all about.
    3. How does your character feel about the Empire? The Empire is a bully, wanting to take everything anyone has for themselves. You stand up to bullies whenever you can.
    4. What does your character love? Jado is very close to Titus, who has become a father figure to her. She is also very impetuous, and forms new friendships quickly (sometimes disturbingly so).
    5. What does your character hate? She...kind of doesn't. She strongly disapproves of unnecessary violence, of intolerance, and of greed, but as of the start of the story, she is incapable of hatred towards anyone, be it the parents who abandoned her or people who hurt her. She has seen the damage that hatred does both to the person who hates and to those around them, and doesn't want to be part of that cycle.

    Sample encounter:
Tavers looked down at the waif, who sat in a square demurely awaiting his next question.

"You want to be a jedi? Why?" he said, in the same gruff manner as he'd addressed her since she'd shown up, out of the blue, seeming to literally pulse with the force.

"Well" Jado said, thinking for a long moment. "I've spent my whole life where everything around me was despair, and unthinking violence, and crime." she paused for a moment, thoughtfully. "I always tried to help anyone I could, but I was never able to do much. Even when I could help, people were often reluctant to accept help- to appear weak, even in front of a little girl. But if I could be a Jedi, that opens up the universe to me. I can go to where people need help and actually accomplish something. I can make peoples' lives better not only on Balosar, but everywhere. Just the thought of that makes me excited. Excited, and... happier than I've ever felt.

Tavers looked down at the girl, barely able to keep his feelings from his face. The girl had spent her entire life on the streets of a crime-infested hellhole, and had come out of it like this? Reaching out with the force, he scanned her thoughts, searching for deception. He found...happiness, tinged with a bit of uneasiness. She knew he was testing her, and didn't want to fail. But the uneasiness was small, and very well controlled.

Shaking his head slightly, he asked another probing question. "On Balosar, you must have been the target of violence. Describe how that made you feel".

"Sad" Jado said immediately. "A lot of people where I grew up- the majority, I guess, don't know any better. They've spent their whole lives communicating with violence, having violence used on them. Society was all about taking what you could get from whoever wasn't strong enough to keep it. For the most part people didn't bother with me because I didn't have much of anything to take. Anything I managed to get..." she looked up at Tavers briefly, "Okay, steal, I would either use it right away, or give it to someone who needed it more. It was the best I could do."

"Last question for now- Jedi must sometimes fight. How do you feel about the possibility of killing another?"

Jado shifted uncomfortably. Tavers thought he had managed to find a weakness after all. But all she said was "I don't like it. Killing is wrong, and not something i ever want to do, jedi or not. " she took a deep breath and finished. "But sometimes life isn't fair. Sometimes people willingly take away all of your options until you have none left. None except to kill them. I'll hate it, and I'll wish there was another way, and sometimes I'll keep looking for another way long past when you might think it's futile. But if I need to, I can kill someone. I've had to do it before.... I cried for a bit, but I moved on, hoping that I had learned enough that I would be able to avoid it the next time.:

The girl's eyes were a bit wet, but she was amazingly calm inside. Everything about her screamed "TRAP", "TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE". But if she were a fake, she was well beyond his ability to tell. And if she really was as she appeared, a young lady that could have grown up in the long-ago Jedi Temple and not been a bit out of place, who by all accounts had started to spontaneously manifest force powers and whose potential seemed rivalled only by Skywalker's... Perhaps there was hope for reestablishing the Order yet. He smiled at the thought.

And without warning, her voice was in his head. It's about time you smiled. I thought for a minute there that you didn't know how... Now I know that everything will be all right. And with that, she gave a little giggle and bounded off towards Titus to tell him the good news- she was going to be a Jedi!

Your HP is off skid. I believe Jedi start with 30+con for level 1.

My guy is goin to be a grizzled older guy who is a multicast between Jedi and soldier. Might be a good pairing for him and your character.

I'll post a bio tomorrow, but her being younger is even better. My guy, Titus, will have a daughter who was taken from him. Probably aroun her age. He'd probably have a soft spot for your character.

Also, 8 Wisdom for a Jedi? That makes your force training feat not super great. You know you get one additional Force Power for every point of wisdom bonus you have.

So if you had a Wis score of 12, you get two force powers for each force training (1 for the feat +1 for Wis bonus).

You're free to RP as you wish, just a friendly suggestion.

PM if you want to pair our guys up. I can give you a bit more backstory on my guy, and we can update bios as needed.

Yeah, I wanted good dex and cha, and having no int bonus sucks for its own reasons. Plus she's a young adult, so her int and wis are both naturally -1 for a bit, in addition to the racial -2... It was hard prioritizing. I should fix the HP though, for sure.. How much do Jedi get per level after 1st?

    Arin, daughter of Mandalore
Two helmeted figures watched the spinning galaxy map on the holo display. It was obvious one was the senior, the other a subordinate; not just because one was taller (he was) or larger (he was that also) or had more elaborately decorated armor (he did). The elder warrior simply watched in silence, rigid with discipline, while the other fought desperately to keep from fidgeting. And succeeded. Mostly.

"It's a big move, al'orad," the smaller one said. The voice was clear, light, and contained a tiny nugget of eagerness.

"Yes," the man identified as al'orad said, leaning forward and placing a hand on the projector to toggle the view. The map of the galaxy expanded in size with a large swath highlighted in fluorescent blue. Several contested systems rose into view, with Corellia, Chandrila and Kuat chief among them. "Worth the risk."

"If we back the Rebels, we're just making ourselves a target. We have plenty of contracts from the Imperials, enough to keep us all wealthy for years once this war is done."

The elder snorted derisively. "And if the Alliance was to be defeated and dissolved, who would be next on Pestage's list?"

The smaller armored warrior shifted slightly. "The Chiss." A pause. "Then the Clans. But we have no reason to fear if we remain neutral--"

"A child's logic. We are a culture of soldiers. One doesn't need to be an idealist to realize that once the largest nail is down, the hammer will start working on the smaller ones still sticking up. Whether we like it or not, the survival of those neutral in the war depends directly on the survival of the Alliance. If we throw our strength behind them we could tip the tide of this war in their favor... and make a great many credits besides."

The younger warrior considered this and finally nodded. "I will take this mission, al'orad, for the glory of the Clans. And I will make you proud, buir." The older man chuckled at that and placed a hand on the young warrior's shoulder and gave it a short but affectionate squeeze.

"I know you will, ad'ika. There was never a doubt in my mind," said Taung.

    --

    1. How long has your character been a part of the Alliance? A few months, perhaps half a year.
    2. Why did your character choose to fight against the Empire? Necessity. A paycheck. Her father. Glory. Not necessarily in that order.
    3. How does your character feel about the Empire? There's no personal animosity between Arin and the Empire. Mandalore Taung casts a big shadow and she has enough to worry about without concerning herself in external politics.
    4. What does your character love? Arin craves her father's approval. She also loves technical journals, specifically those related to prototype weaponry, as well as reading historical accounts of famous battles and tactical analyses.
    5. What does your character hate? Boba Fett. Technically her brother by blood, Fett is a traitor and wears his stolen armor in mockery of the line of Mandalore. If she had her druthers she would deliver Boba Fett to her father in shackles and probably volunteer to execute him herself. Of course, she's never met the guy so it's not really a personal hatred, so that could change. Then again, probably not because Boba Fett is kind of a jerk.

The computer monitor flickers to life in the dark of Gast's room, a message flashing on the screen as he stumbles out of bed. "Hmm. Who do we have here?" The screen shows a black and white still of a crowded street and is centered on a young Balosar. "Never seen one of those before," he yawns, stretching his black-and-white-furred arms to the ceiling.

A keystroke sends him to another page full of text and he scans it for a few moments. "Balosar, eh? Known associates... Tavers? Ha! The kid knows that pretty boy off the recruitment posters. His face was plastered all over IC. What else?" He scans the page some more and an almost-serious look crosses his face. "Taken in for questioning by planet security forces..."
One Jado Der'Merra, profiled matching the description of a known death stick dealer, wanted for recent violent robbery, and taken into custody on xx.xx.xx. Held for 24 hours and interviewed in block 313. Subject allowed search of place of residence and was released, deemed a non-threat.

"Ha! You can take the humans out of the Empire... I feel for you kid."

He checks his other messages and shrugs. "Nothing on the others, yet. If they're anything like this one, they should make for real interesting reading."

    ....Holy dice godding batman!

    HP rolls (1d10-1=9, 1d10-1=8, 1d10-1=9, 1d10-1=9). 3 10s and a 9 for Jado's hp. :o

e- Okay, changed Jado's stats around and I think they work better now. lost intelligence which lost me UTF skill focus, gained wisdom so I was able to drop the second force training to pick it up again.

Also, Heir and I are working on tying our characters together, so updated the background to replace the Jedi dude finding her with Heir's character , though I am absolutely fine with her still associating with him for Gast's sake (she probably needs more training than Titus can give her).

    Example Post:
Battle raged around Titus Antares on the heavily forested planet, screams of the dying and the smell of burning fur and flesh filled his senses. Ducking behind a downed tree, he snapped a few shots off from his blaster rifle at the Imperial Troopers, managing to hit one unlucky soldier squarely in the chest, his death washing over Titus's senses quickly. The rest of the dead Imperial's squad turned their focus on the aging Rebel, and opened fire. Cursing from his meager cover, he caught the sound of the familiar snap-hiss of an igniting lightsaber and sighed to himself as his "apprentice" failed to head his instructions to stay behind the rest of the rebel soldiers. He spied Jado advancing on the troopers, who were now splitting their attention between Titus and the advancing Balosar girl who was clumsily batting away their shots . Cursing again, he holstered his rifle and pulled a metal cylinder from a holdout holster on his thigh. Igniting his own lightsaber, he let the Force guide his steps as he covered the 40 meters between them in moments, beating Jado with seconds to spare. Wasting no time with theatrics, he made quick swipes and stabs with his yellow blade, ending the conflict before the troopers were able to react.

As Titus turned to once again scold his charge for not obeying his instructions, an explosion illuminated the sky and shook the planet. Looking up, he saw the giant ball of fire where the Death Star had just been. As if that was all that held the Imperials together, any remaining troops nearby immediately started to run, or just threw down their weapons and surrendered. Slowly but surely, more and more cheers went up in the forest as beside him Jado joined the rising chorus. "We did it! The war is over mast..." Titus glared at the girl "...uh Titus."

He looked back at the explosion, feeling something in the Force...something hopeful...yet at the same time sad. Without looking away, and after several moments, he replied. "No child, this is just the beginning..." He placed his arm around her reassuringly, as the two of them looked on at the spectacle in the sky.

    Background:

Titus grew up in the Jed Temple, hoping to one day to become an apprentice to one of the famous Jedi of his time. He daydreamed about becoming the padawan for Ki Adi Mundi, or maybe even Mace Windu. That day never came though, as he was consistently passed over in favor of more promising students. By the time he was 20, he gave up. Being told that his connection to the Force just wasn't strong enough, he was resigned to join the Jedi Exploration Corps. While he resented his peers for having the glory of becoming padawans and eventually full fledged Jedi Knights, in the end being a part of the Service Corps saved him. When the Jedi Purge began, he had been on Ry'loth, helping a Twi'lek clan explore new caverns on the dark side of the planet. Feeling he was generally safe because of his lack of real Force abilities, Titus decided to hang up his lightsaber and put down roots.

Marrying one of his fellow Exploration Corps members, the two of them enjoyed a peaceful, if not meager, living with their new found family on Ry'loth. Before long, they had welcomed their firstborn, a beautiful baby girl, into the world. Titus named her Aida, knowing that it meant "Happy" in a language he did not understand, but it perfectly described his new situation.

As Aida grew, she displayed a natural affinity for the Force. Fearing that she would be discovered, Titus began to teach her "games" that would help her mask her abilities. For over a decade, he and his family lived in peace. On the eve of Aida's 11th birthday, the door to their shelter was kicked in by a squad of Imperial Stormtroopers. They quickly shot dead Titus's wife, and restrained him before he could respond. A darkly robed man entered the room and told him that they had been tipped off by someone in their community about his daughter, and she would be coming with them. When Titus tried to fight back, he was shot and left for dead, the last sounds he heard were those of his daughter screaming in terror.

Beyond all odds, Titus lived, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the Alliance Special Forces group that was also looking for Aida. The Rebellion, Titus was told, was in the search for any and all Force Sensitives, knowing that the Jedi were the key to winning the war. After some recovery, Titus joined them as their newest member, helping them track down new potential Jedi and hopefully saving them from possible Inquisitors.

It was during one of these missions that he encountered Jado. At first he was reluctant to bring her back to Alliance Headquarters, thinking she was too young. But something about her reminded Titus of Aida. Over the next half-decade, the two would become something between a master and apprentice, and a surrogate father and daughter. Titus's Force Connection, long thought to be all but faded away, came back stronger than ever, spurred by the swiftness with which Jado would master new skills. It wasn't long before he carried his lightsaber again, along with his trusty blaster rifle. While he never put much stock in the hope everyone put on Luke Skywalker (Titus had enough of the Skywalker line after meeting his father long ago), he couldn't argue that the Jedi's flame would need to be reignited in the galaxy.

    Personality:

Gruff, grizzled, and weathered. Titus doesn't necessarily buy into all of the ideology that drives the heart of the Rebellion, but he admires their leaders for having such convictions. He never trusted Skywalker, even though he knew he was probably a good kid at heart...he just didn't put much stock in placing all of one's hopes on one person. He was saddened to hear Luke had died, but knows that many other Force Sensitives still live who can help restart the Jedi Order and help the Rebellion become the New Republic.

    1. How long has your character been a part of the Alliance? For about a decade now, as a part of Alliance SpecForce.
    2. Why did your character choose to fight against the Empire? He never had much of a love for the Empire, knowing what they did to the Jedi Order. But after they took away everything he loved, he actively joined the fight against their tyranny.
    3. How does your character feel about the Empire? He hates the Empire for the most part, though he recognizes that many of the men he has killed in his tour of duty were just normal grunts like him, doing their job for something they thought they believed in. He's extremely happy that Palpatine and Vader are dead, but recognizes as long as the upper levels of Imperial authority remain in power, the Empire will always be evil.
    4. What does your character love? Titus loves Jado, though he has never said it verbally. He has trouble saying much beyond gruff barks of instructions at her, but she knows he loves her under that tough exterior.
    5. What does your character hate? He hates the inquisitor who took away his daughter, and by extension, he hates all inquisitors (he never saw the man's face).

Where do you guys go to find pictures for your characters? Is there a photo bank on wookieepedia or something?

Yeah I was using GIS, but finding good pictures of "star wars soldier" was annoying. Found a decent one finally, though I found another I might use eventually.

I copy pictures out of my copy of the Essential Guide to Star Wars species. I love that book so very much. FInding pictures of rebel troopers that aren't dorky is so hard though.

Since Arcanis and Heir went ahead and put the bar up high with example posts I'd like to thank thm both. Those are really helpful with getting some isnight into the way the character acts and thinks. Bios are helpful as well of course.

Tavers looked down at the waif, who sat awkwardly on a tree stump awaiting his next question.

"You want to be a jedi? Why?" he said, in the same gruff manner as he'd addressed her in since she'd shown up, out of the blue, seeming to literally pulse with the force.

Excited, and... happier than I've ever felt".

Tavers looked down at the girl, barely able to keep his feelings from his face. The girl had spent her entire life on the streets of a crime-infested hellhole, and had come out of it like this? Reaching out with his mind and feelings, he scanned her thoughts, searching for deception.

How do you feel about the possibility of killing another being?"

I'll hate it, and I'll wish there was another way, and sometimes I'll keep looking for another way long past when everyone might think it's futile. But if I need to, I can kill someone. I've had to do it before.... and...I cried for a bit, but I moved on, hoping that I had learned enough that I would be able to avoid it the next time.:

Sorry, but I wasn't sure if the little story I wrote up for my character concept would all fit in here so I posted it up here. Hopefully it doesn't sound too dumb. :)

EDIT: Has anyone here made a droid before? I have a few questions about it like what I can buy and equip and such.

This is a link to our former droid character, in case that helps or gives you any ideas. :)

Ok, let me see what I got. This is my first Saga character ever and I'm going through a cold at the moment so please excuse any incoherency.

    1) The book says I don't have a Constitution stat. Does that hamper my use of the 32-point buy system you allowed?
    2) I read that besides whatever cash I start with as a Soldier, I also get 1000 credits to buy droid accessories or limb-tweaks for my character. Can I still use whatever I cash I roll as a Soldier to buy more droid stuff?
    3) Some of the stuff like droid armor cost '(number) x cost factor'. Cost factor is said to be how much my droid character and his systems cost but I'm left clueless exactly what that means.
    4) Am I not allowed to buy anything with a 'Military' or 'Restricted' tag to it?

  • HeirHeir Ausitn, TXRegistered User regular
I can answer a couple of these I think.

For cash I believe you can roll cash and then spend with that. Naturally there is probably some give or take, Sak will definitely need to give you the final word.

    4) Restricted/Military doesn't matter...we're Rebels...essentially we're outlaws. :)

Current character count is 4 (with 3 preferred from Dark Times). Sak wanted 3-5 characters by Wednesday, so I would think there's still room for ya! :)

I downloaded it but I'm not sure I can get it to work properly in my Excel program since it's the Starter edition. Is it possible for me to put it up in a Google-doc?

I may not be able to cobble my Soldier together in time so it may be wise to have a character ready in case I can't make it by the deadline.

Psolms is being all reserved with his hat. Like a proper noble. Can't go throwing that thing around all crazy like. That said the current submission list could use a noble...or a scoundrel.

    Or a scoundrel/noble.

Which is what I was thinking.

Owenashi sorry you're having trouble making your droid. They can be a bit tough. Here are the answers Heir couldn;t provide, thanks for the help by the way.

    1) I think I allowed Zero ala Immortal Squish the usual number of points. I mean everyone else defaults to an 8 and they could always deposit 0 of their point buy into that stat so it doesn't seem to make a difference to me if droids lack a constitution score and still have a few poitns to play with.
    2) You don't get to keep left over credits for droid parts, however you do still get the noraml starting credits for a member of your class.
    3) Your droid's cost factor is determined by it's size. There is a handy ref. chart on pg 167 of the core book that explains what size each cost factor applies to.
    4) Heir was correct on this count. You are a rebel. Licenses and that sort of thing aren't a big concern for you.

    Hope that helps.
