What can you tell me about that nifty-looking machine right there? I'm guessing it's some sort of developer kit.
It's a DC, as designed by Microsoft
(it's a dev kit)
I would imagine DC dev kits would cost a pretty penny. I want one too. Btw, Thanks TSR for hosting such an awesome thread. I'll have to load up my genesis carts now.
David Brin only wrote the plot of "Defender of the Future", after Ed Annunziata (author of story for the original games) quit. I wasn't terribly fond of how the DC/PS2 title completely abandoned every aspect of the story, honestly.
As for the infraction-- excessive moderation much? It's not a retail product. It's not for sale. It never was for sale. And the people responsible for making the game don't care if it's distributed. Chill out, huh?
Not to resurrect threads that are ridiculously old, but I've always been hoping to hear the rest of the information about Ecco 2.
I have been on some weird Ecco kick lately. Except not the DC version, which I've only ever played a demo for. I've heard the story isn't quite as off-the-wall as the two Genesis games anyway.
Considering it's been nearly five years and we haven't heard zilch about it, it's probably fair to say it's looooong dead. Especially since Sega restructured since then and is only focusing on games that are guaranteed to sell bajillions.

Well, this thread was always about random Ecco development information and not an actual game release; as far as I know there haven't been any good, practical plans to reboot the series on mainstream consoles since the DC (but I am no Ecco expert). So technically, TSR's (or someone else's) Ecco 2 information could be disseminated easily.
Also, I like that Ecco was basically cut from a cloth of 'less violence' and instead you get a story about aliens coming to destroy all of Earth's oceans throughout time, which is basically a big doom-pocalypse where billions of people die/never exist. It reminds me of the Neil de Grasse-Tyson tweet that I can't find now that's basically "Watched 2012. 6 billion people die but PG-13 rating warned of mild violence so it was okay."
[edit]
Actually, found it:
"Just Netflixed '2012.' Six Billion people dead at film's end. Was prepared because PG-13 rating warned of 'Mild Violence'"
while this article is impressive, as a veteran of Ecco for over 20 years, I have to say there are some inaccuracies. The Stomach level for example, does NOT take place after the final fight in ecco1. it simply takes the place that Welcome to the Machine does in the U.S. versión when you are eatin by the Queen. and did anyone even mention the extra levels in the Sega Cd Ecco1 having the same art as Ecco 2, like "lava Reef" or the Shipwreck level?

Really? David Brin as in Glory Season and The Postman?
No effing way.
EDIT: ECCO III: Game of Life Edition.
It makes sense though, he did write the Uplift series of novels, which heavily featured evolved dolphins, among other animals. Good stuff.
Damn it, I just read this whole thread thinking it was new. No more info from TSR coming, then?
