Converting iTunes .m4v

So I've been trying to convert the video (.m4v) files that I've purchased via iTunes to a format that would be playable via USB on my T.V., but have encountered (using all the video conversion programs I can find) variations of this error message: "This application cannot be used to play this content" - so far prohibiting me from converting any .m4v files.

I'm sure there must be a solution to this, that my novice research skills have not been able to find.

I use DVDfab for all my converting needs. I haven't ever converted a .m4v file, but it looks like it should be able to do it.
You might give their free trial a shot and see if it's what you're looking for.

I use Quick Media Converter. It's free and pretty simple to figure out. Bonus it convert from and to a lot of formats.
