I wonder how awkward the Kiffin Christmas will be
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Someone's tweeting that Georgia Tech will be going to the Big Ten.
It's just a random tweet, so I don't really believe it. That being said, I think GT would be a great addition.
I wouldn't mind going to the B1G since it looks like the ACC is going to eat it during the next mega-expansion. That said, I don't believe the rumor that's going around right now.
I vaguely cheer for GT because I went there for graduate school, but you really don't get any school spirit in grad school. That all comes in undergrad.
THE TEAMS: The Kent State Golden Flashes will be taking on the Northern Illinois Huskies.
LOCATION: Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
This picture is from a previous MACTION Championship Game. I have no idea why the MAC does this to itself.
WHEN: Friday, November 30
WHERE: ESPN 2
ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE MACTION? Probably not.
HOW DID WE GET HERE, KENT STATE EDITION: By beating almost everyone else. Kent State does one thing really well: score. Their lowest point total in a win was 23, but the Golden Flashes have hit or topped 35 points 7 times this year. The defense also has been fairly good as well, limiting opponents to an average of 23.6 PPG (this number includes anomalies of 43 against Ball State and the Kentucky massacre). Oh, and they beat Big East runner up and future Big 10 member Rutgers. I guess that counts for something?
But, if we really must know about Kent State's season, two things come to mind. One was their asskicking at the hands of Kentucky. Kentucky, as you may recall, is an SEC team (WITH DAT SEC SPEED). Kentucky is also not very good at football. I'm not using SEC standards here. I'm saying that Kentucky would have a hard time competing in the Tire Fire Big East. Kent State lost that matchup 47-14.
The second thing is this play from Kent State's first game. For the record, THIS TEAM COULD BE A BCS TEAM.
HOW DID WE GET HERE, NORTHERN ILLINOIS EDITION: I'll be honest here, I don't know much about the Huskies. From what I see, their only loss was a one-point loss to Iowa at a neutral site (BETTER LOSS THAN KENT STATE). The Huskies look to have a similarly high-powered offense as Kent State, but their defense looks decidedly better, at 17.4 PPG given up.
Here is what I do know about Northern Illinois: a friend of mine ended up going to Northern Illinois on a soccer scholarship. Supposedly she is doing very well, but it is next-to-impossible to find women's soccer stats for the MAC without actually trying to do it. Also Northern Illinois always seems to do well. This is their third-straight MACTION Title game, going 1-1 over the last two games. What is important, though, is that they won last year. Northern Illinois knows what they need to do to win this game.
A dog mascot and his dog, dawg.
SO WHO SHOULD WE ROOT FOR? Here is a fun statistic: every non-AQ conference participant in the BCS was undefeated when they went to their bowl game. Kent State has a chance to break that. I'm not sure this is a good thing. They would easily be the worst non-AQ BCS participant in history (I'm willing to put that horrific Hawaii loss on Georgia being hell-bent on murdering someone that game), and there would be a few non-AQs from the past that I would put ahead of this team. But hey, they would probably give Florida its best game of all its potential matchups. Yes this is a stab at Florida. Try putting away a Sun Belt team early for once, Gators.
BUT SERIOUSLY WHO SHOULD WE ROOT FOR? One last outbreak of good old-fashioned MACTION.
NIU went for a fake field goal, and it worked... but they called a time out before the snap and so it was negated.
...MACtion?

I know a Northern Illinois fan that is still pissed that they lost to Iowa. And rightly so! Iowa is terrible.

Yeah but USC will be his masterwork. It takes time to craft something this amazing. A lot of heart and dedication must go into it.
Turns out they don't really care about their own rules.
That means Monte's not getting him anything else for Christmas.
Lane probably cried about that.
The only reason we're playing is that two other teams broke NCAA rules and are ineligible. That argument obviously holds weight with the NCAA, too.

Yeah, just what we need, another Michigan State.
Of course, if it is true, it would mean that the Big ten would likely be the first to 16.
The old, stodgy conference becoming the first Superconference?
weird.
