So in the "Dex is unabashedly wrong for a long time and now shamefully admits it" department

Mutants & Masterminds 3rd is awesome

It turned me off for a long time because I don't like point-buy systems, but I really sat down with the srd today, and jeez I really like it

A good example of what happens when one doesn't use the Oxford comma.

Why is this even a question, instead of a universally accepted fact?

so my DM thought hinting that our missing gear had been taken to the Underdark would scare us off trying to find it

    silly DM

the best part was when we were featherfalling down the elevator shaft and encountered a Duergar's merchant apprentice travelling in the other direction with the golden idol their master had given to the dwarves that had captured us as payment for our gear. Poor guy was just chilling on a half-hour elevator ride when all of a sudden 4 adventurers dropped silently out of the sky.

I think we were supposed to capture & interrogate him, find out that the caravan with our gear had left 4 days prior, and take the idol to buy new gear when we got back to civilization

instead we knocked him out, took the idol, then made a hole in the elevator floor to jump through and resume chasing our gear

we got most of it back, at least. our metal weapons and anything heavy not in our bag of holding when the ship went down is gone though

what's important is I have my alchemical ingredients, and found my chupacabra snacking on a duergar in the forest outside the caves. Good boy, Charles!

also we're now 2 sessions behind schedule with the DM's baby due in march

because he didn't count on us insisting on getting our shit back

  • Options
Dex DynamoDex Dynamo Registered User regular
Which is weird that your DM wouldn't count on that

Considering, as you said, your character kind of needs it to get by

  • Options
UnbrokenEvaUnbrokenEva HIGH ON THE WIRE BUT I WON'T TRIP ITRegistered User regular
    exactly!

I told him that if he'd even allowed me to macgyver together enough stuff to make my mutagens from stuff on the island, I wouldn't have pushed for us to chase our gear into the underdark

    but noooo

my formula book is lost because paper doesn't handle an extended time in the ocean well, but I've got my mutagens and bombs and that's what really counts. If I can't be a lizardman ranger shooting exploding arrows then what's the fucking point?

I'll worry about rebuilding my extract list later.

yeah your dm is a massive dick

gear is pretty integral to just about every character and build in 3.x and actively removing it for multiple sessions is kinda goddamn stupid?

  • Options
PiptheFairPiptheFair Frequently not in boats. Registered User regular
    like

if you're lvl 1 and that happens it's not really a big deal, because you practically have no gear at all

but if you're 5 or higher?

your character's ability to do things is kinda predicated on the fact that you have stuff to do those things with

  • Options

in all DnD gear is fucking important.

unless you're an ADnD barbarian, in which case, not so much.

it's not nearly important in 4e

I mean, it's still important no doubt

    but yeah

and in pathfinder you have things like feral gnashers and cad fighters and sorcs and summoners who don't really care much about gear at all, but it's a pretty small group of things that does not really need gear

  • Options
    MeldingMelding Registered User regular
yeah, it is the most important in 3.x but still there is never a point in DnD where you want to give up items.

you killed sentient beings for that! it's important!
