So my uncle gave me an old desktop computer...

But the thing is that it has a n Administrator password which hr didn't told me about, I asked him about it and he said he was given that computer by someone else, I am not sure he knows how to override that password being that it cuts a lot of restrictions such as me trying to install ANYTHING and not even letting me make a new account to use it as my own.

I am planniong to call best buy and their "geek squad" but I am sure they would want me to sell my arm and my leg in order to do something about this.

Any advise on what I can do otherwise?

Oh, it has Windows XP by the way, anything else anyone here wants to know about this PC let me know, thanks.

Hah yeah don't go to geek squad, that'll cost you $100 and they'll probably sell you a new version of windows for $150.

I've used that in the past.

Second Bowen, I keep a copy of that very same disk at work, does marvels, takes about 3 minutes to blank out any Windows password, nice scripted prompts for the password process so you don't need much knowledge. There's other options, but that's the most reliable I've found.

Always used this to reset XP passwords. If there's no sticker on it with the key then grab MagicalJellyBean keyfinder and extract/write down your key - 'just in case'.

That was my second choice, is a bit more obtuse on how to reset a password this way though.

Silly question. Have you tried "Admin" as the password ?

I say just nuke it from space, do a reformat and fresh install. I mean god knows what all is on that thing and I wouldn't want to use it without a fresh install.

I agree with revert, unless there's something you know is already on there and you absolutely need it and can't reinstall/don't have the disk for. Thing could have any number of bugs/viruses and whatnot on there, you dont want to mess with those.

Grab the key with Magical Jelly Bean and use the install disc that should've come with it to reformat.
