For millennia our species has looked to the stars and the cold, limitless void between those twinkling points of light and wondered just what was up there. Man gazed at the stars as he shivered in his cave before he made fire. He used the light of the stars and the moon to hunt at night. He developed tools to use the stars to aid in guidance. He made instruments to see them better. With feet on the ground, his eyes were always turned skyward.
We gained the ability to fly in the early 20th century. Within 60 years man set foot on the moon and marked the next step on the path to a new beginning. Though the public shells of the spacefaring agencies were dissolved and reformed several times in the next few hundred years, there was never a shortage of people working countless hours in secret locations hoping to make that next breakthrough that would make it more possible to travel further and further in space within a person's lifespan.
Centuries passed. Expeditions were made to the closest planets that seemed habitable. Life would flourish for a generation or two but things were never sustainable long-term. Though similar, they lacked the necessary characteristics that would allow humanity to take a foothold on the planet and settle there. Terraforming technology was developed and helped to improve the quality of life for the settlers on the new worlds, but the planets still weren’t good enough of a fit and the technology just wasn't advanced enough to start planet-wide change. The terraforming never fully took hold and the colonies had to be abandoned.
Without huge permanent advances the population's interest began to dwindle. Development then stagnated as resources began to run low and the world population crept ever higher. By the year 2508 there were 117 billion humans living on Earth, and global food and water shortages were commonplace. Gone were the normal cities of a few hundred years ago. Enormous hive cities blanketed the land, blocking out the sun in many places. Those unlucky enough to live in the slums rarely had the opportunity to see sunlight or eat/drink anything that hadn’t been recycled 5 or 6 times. Many in the hive cities rebelled against their existing governments as a result of the terrible conditions they were made to endure. Due to lack of manpower, money, and supplies, many nations joined together to form the UEA, or United Earth Alliance. With the streamlined governing system, supplies were more easily transported to where they were needed. More resources were also able to be pooled together to restart the research into space exploration. Ansible communication was developed, using an entangled pair of atoms to send data across nearly any distance and allowing nearly instantaneous communication. Terraforming machinery became smaller and more efficient. Stasis technology previously used only for plants is improved upon, allowing humans to be kept in suspended animation for years at a time if needed.
Most importantly of all, though, was the discovery of The Ether. Using a modified version of the Large Hadron Collider from the 21st century, scientists discovered that by propelling particles fast enough under certain conditions that it was possible to actually break the light speed barrier. It was found in some tests that particles could be sent backward in time slightly, sometimes arriving even before the relevant test they were used in began. In an effort to expand humanity's footprint in the universe, satellites are launched in every direction with the hopes that a truly habitable planet will be found soon.
No progress is ever made without criticism, though. A group of smaller non-UEA nations joined together in protest claiming that the technology being used was a violation of nature and needed to be stopped. They call themselves the "True Keepers" and claim that if a planet is to be populated that it should be done without the use of technology. Humanity should adapt to the planet instead of making the planet adapt to humans.
The year is 2611 and the earth is at a tipping point. Millions of people die every day due to starvation, dehydration, or disease. Synthetic food production isn’t able to meet the huge demand and on occasion people are incorporated into the nutrient slurry produced by the machinery to feed the rest of the population. The UEA pools the last of its precious resources to create a fleet of ARC (Alliance Repopulation Craft) ships in the hopes that the satellites will communicate positive news back soon. The construction of the 8 city-sized ships takes years and countless lives are lost in the process. The ships are fitted with the latest FTL drives, terraforming machinery, and food generation technology. Cargo holds are filled with tools and plant life, ready to be planted upon landfall.
Finally, good news comes for once. A seemingly habitable planet has been discovered only 1800 light years away! Sensors readouts from the satellite show the planet as being low in radiation, with an oxygen-rich atmosphere and plentiful water. Of all possible planets found, this one is most like earth, save for the fact that it exists in a system with two suns.
A lottery is started to see who will get to leave the planet. Billions enter. Only eighty thousand will be chosen. Some are given priority. These essential personnel are sought out and protected. Biologists, physicists, astronomers, geologists, and the like. A crew is hired to man each of the ships. The crew and the essential personnel will be out of stasis for the duration of the trip, estimated to last slightly over a month. This is where you come in. You've gotten a spot on the ship's crew!
You've been traveling through The Ether with the rest of these shipmates for weeks now. Things are about as normal as can be expected for a group of people rocketing through the screaming void of space. What happens next, though, is up to you!

RULES
You must vote every day. Only in death does service to democracy end!
Don't quote/screenshot PMs from either host. Doing this may make us take your turn for you, and you definitely don't want that to happen.
Don't add anyone else to a PM conversation unless they are replacing the person you were previously having said conversation with.
When you die, shut yer mouth. You get one ghost post, and then you can't talk with the living. That shit takes practice, and you are a new ghost.
vote close is 9pm CST
Include both
@GrimmyTOA and
@TheRoadVirus in all communications/proboards.
ACTIONS:
Every day, you will do the following things:
*Make at least two posts (MANDATORY)
*Make at least one vote post (MANDATORY)
*Move up to two rooms away (OPTIONAL)
*Use a room ability OR a player ability (OPTIONAL)
WHEN YOU SIGN UP:
*Sign up in
Lime
*Vote for the planet name in
Cyan
*Vote for the ship's name in
Red
THEN
*PM US Your desired player name and starting location on the ship's map. Dumb names will be denied. Try to keep it professional!
Order of Operations:
All non-offensive abilities -> Offensive abilities -> Vote -> Mafia interactions -> Other interactions -> Movement -> Environmental effects
Note the OOA well! It is important shit.
All of this stuff is.
Final warnings: This game is a bit experimental. There may be some broken parts, and some stuff may not work as we fully intended. We have done what we can to prevent this situation, but a word of warning is still prudent. Also, some room interactions are only able to be done by one person a night. You'll figure it out. Have fun!
Thanks a ton to
@egos for all of his help and suggestions! If stuff is still broken, Grimmy and I take full blame for that.

You are a Crewmember on the UEA Wang Fire, and part of humanity’s last and greatest attempt to escape the dying, worn-out Earth. Maybe you’re a cook, or an astrogator. Hell, you could be a janitor. At any rate, you’re not prepared for the sudden emergency facing the ship. Nevertheless, you’ll do what you can to ensure that the mission is a success.
You may use the Basic Ship Commands of any room on the UEA Wang Fire.
Win condition: Eliminate the True Keeper terrorists and any other threats facing the UEA Wang Fire.
Starting Information: When boarding the UEA Wang Fire, you saw a couple of people punching in their Code Names. You know that xxxxx is “xxxxx ”, and that yyyyy is “yyyyy”.
