the other day i got cold called by some irish guy who managed to get one paragraph into his pre-prepared spiel about government funded solar energy schemes or some shite before i interuppted him with

"let me just stop you there, i'm not the home owner so it's pointless to talk to me"

and he just responded in the most crestfallen tones "oh... ok then, sorry to bother you"

guy went from cheesy sales pitch mode to sounding like i'd just told him his mother had died in a flaming car wreck

the disparity between the two was heart breaking

I just broke into a solar power sales pitch to say no as well. I always feel a little bad, but not bad enough to waste a morning.

well the simple fact is government schemes or no, unless you own your own house and happen to have £10-15k lying around you ain't going to be getting solar panels fitted

My wife got a cold call last night from her bank trying to sell her insurance. Took her saying "Not interested" and then finally saying "my dog needs to go out before she pisses on the floor" for them to get the hint.

What is this bright, burning thing in the sky? The lidless eye? Has Copenhagen finally fallen under Sauron's foul influence, despite the superficial appearance of calm and happiness?

Actually it wasn't an excuse as she was just about to put the leash on the dog when they called which was hillarious in it's timing. :P

My favourite was when people used to ring trying to sell us double-glazing; my dad would inform them that we lived underground.

Sadly, going ex-directory has not in any way stopped cold-calling, because any time you give out your phone number online, someone's going to sell it to these bastards. :/

Does anyone have any experience in uploading video from an ipod/iphone to youtube? I've got an 11 minute video that I want to upload but I'm guessing there will be issues considering it's almost 900 megs in size atm.

Get it onto your computer first, then compress it with something like Windows Movie Maker or similar?

I have been up since 4:30am so I need to think a bit. Your logic seems sound but I think you may be underestimating market liquidity a bit. The CDS spread should be arb'ed. I'm not sure that it matters if the spread between its actual risk and TBTF premium takes into account the beans-and-water investor (we already have those! It's called going long gold).

In other words, despite the name, I'm not convinced that buying a CDS on a bank is hedging the end of the world.

and here is one of the reasons I have so much trouble getting into some of the older RPG systems
Just don't tell them they need to take into account dexterity adjustments, target size adjustments, speed penalties, range penalties, weapon familiarity penalties, concealment and cover penalties, flinching penalties, recoil penalties, fanning penalties, thumbing penalties, rapid fire penalties, snap shot penalties, reload times, jams, black powder fouling, and the dozens of other things that can cause a shot to miss or a weapon to fail.

it's world of tanks in space basically

    the controls feel pretty good

various game modes, from capturing control points with respawns, capturing control points with limited respawns, blowing up control points, deathmatch with unlimited respawns until the "Captain" is killed

all spaceships have a special ability. I'm going for the Federation now, which have the ships up there.

Three classes of ship - fighter, interceptor, frigate. The federation fighter has a cloak, their interceptor has a close range damaging thing, and the frigate has combat drones that protect you from missiles and pew pew on their own.

other abilities are TV missiles, sniping cannons, a sorta mini hyperdrive, etc.

    also it is free

Ahh, I'll have to install it then as I'm on Windows 7 on my home pc. Thought it would have already been there but I'm reading up and I guess it wasn't included this time around.

Hey how do video files captured on iPhone translate to PC anyway? Does it detect which way up the phone is and flip the video file accordingly?

Like if I hold it so the volume buttons are on top, will it be the right way up and landscape, or sideways and portrait?

    Oh brilliant

on my frigate I've got lasers

I ponder about, often sorta defensively, never go on point. The drones have 1500 metre range so I close in to that, and just bshhhhhht them with the lasers.

on my fighter and interceptor both I've got plasma cannons now, which are the shorter ranged of the three weapons. (railguns being the third)

just get all up in their face either by being really fast or by having the ability to cloak

    which is never not fun

    Fair enough.

Look at it this way: if you're assuming that a given bear investment is priced such that it assumes "grass will be growing in the streets" they're all undervalued.

We're not talking about a market dip event, we're talking about a market end event. If that is the in-the-money state (market end) everything is undervalued. And it doesn't matter because in that event there is no market to collect on.

    Phone posting is difficult btw

If it's one of those lobby-based games where you do get to improve on your character/ship/tank permanently then it doesn't fit the bill exactly (it's not massive), but it's close enough for me to just throw it in with the WoW-clones.
