Man, I hope there'll be rumours of Bayonetta 2 going multiplat. Just to get their hopes up.

    Still not serious.

I'm still not entirely convinced Lego City Undercover won't go multiplatform if it sells well

    It's published by Nintendo.

Apparently published AND funded by Nintendo.

I think this is a bit different sort of like the Bayo2 thing where Nintendo funded the project.

Well, the 'funded' part may hurt the chances of a move more than the 'published' bit.

  • UnbreakableVowUnbreakableVow Registered User regular
    That would be really weird!

I can see why Nintendo would go in for that, but TT has Scrooge McDuck levels of money at this point, and it makes no financial sense for them to lock themselves in completely to one system, especially the poorest-selling one

To be fair, Nintendo didn't fund Razor's Edge. And it wasn't published by them in Japan.

If Nintendo didn't lock in a perpetual exclusivity contract, that's their own damn fault

There is nothing "dick" about moving your product to a much larger audience if there's no legal hangup stopping you

    It is called "being smart"

    No, that's just silly

Bayonetta 2's producers have gone on record saying they just could not fund a sequel and that the project couldn't exist without Nintendo

TT's financial situation is that of a late-90's rap video, just throwing money everywhere

There has to be something greater in this for them somehow

There is a Bayonetta 2 thread, and it's not like that at all

Bayonetta is a solid enough product that it could conceivably sell systems to some

    It's the reason I bought a Wii U

But Lego games are just sort of fun distractions, not really system sellers, so I think that's why you'll see more "aw man!" comments than "Gotta get a Wii U for this" comments

  • UnbreakableVowUnbreakableVow Registered User regular
Here is the best possible scenario for this game:

It releases to decent sales. Nothing mind-blowing, because it's practically impossible to have those considering the install base

However, Lego game prices tend to drop like rocks, and hopefully since it's published by Nintendo, that won't happen. Keep it at $50. When more people buy a Wii U this fall, and in the future whenever they finally stick more Mario on it, people will snap up Lego City

  • skeldareskeldare Gresham, ORRegistered User regular
Considering the amount of commercials I've been seeing for this game, I'm expecting pretty decent sales.

Does the game actually use the platform specific interface (the touchscreen)? I mean, that would make it much less likely to go multiplatform in the future. A guy can hope I guess.

It uses the pad pretty significantly actually. It has the city map, it feeds seperate video that gives you updates via the characters from the game, and it's used as a scanner on the tv to find hidden items and hidden criminals.

It uses the pad to the degree that TT are not allowing you to have off tv play with it.

Also, as @UnbreakableVow said, I wouldn't consider what Tecmo did as anything bad. They need to sell units, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Less Poop Edition just wasn't selling well. Them moving the game to the other consoles is rather cheap for them and it'll give them a few more sales to those not tricked by the first version of the game.

But as for Lego City, Nintendo may have gone to them and said, "Here's a bucket of money, please let your open world original Lego game be exclusive to us, we have some more money in the back that will make development less stressfull. Plus the woman in the van is named Tina, request of her what you please."*

*Get your mind out of the gutter, Tina sells ice cream!

Reminder that Rayman Legends uses the pad to a pretty significant degree as well

    Just saying!

If companies want to port and make money (and companies love to port and make money), they will find a way unless there's a legal reason stopping them

I agree with this, companies know how to find and use loopholes. In the end I really hope this does well, as it looks fantastic, and I love the use of the pad. I know that come next week, I will be supporting the game with my purchase.

I'm not sure what the official relationship is with TT and Nintendo when it comes to this project, so I guess we'll just have to see how the game does and what the results are with TT. My source however did say that Nintendo's lending of Tina to the TT team was part of the deal.

Raymand Legends was basically off screen play... So it didn't really rely on the gamepad.

Only in a Nintendo fanboy's world would thinking the game may be played by a larger multiplatform audience at some point be considered not being full of sunshine and rainbows

I hate Rayman personally but I think it's fucking awesome that they're porting it for the people who enjoyed Origins on their traditional consoles and don't want to buy into the whole Wii U thing

There are specific parts where you actually use the gamepad to control Murfy.

Not really? I remember jokes about it being a million discs on the 360

But then the game came out and no one gave a shit really

Partly because it was FFXIII, and partly because who cares? More people get to play a product, without significant sacrifices. That's awesome.

And they are. Those parts are apparently going to be exclusive to the Wii U version. Still more than just off screen play.
