The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Things my mother was surprised I knew, in order from "not at all" to "extremely".
The former governor of Wyoming,
the current governor,
the number of representatives it has now and has had historically,
its senators,
everyone's party,
and the circumstances of the junior senator taking office (sitting senator [whose name I also knew] died of leukemia, then-sitting governor picks a name from a list of three the deceased senator's state party gives him, that guy got reelected a couple of years ago -- this sort of thing is rather memorable, you know?).
Sometimes it seems like she's not aware that I keep up with this stuff. Though I did get John Enzi's entry to the Senate wrong by several years.

So Mississippi republicans are passing a law, in response to the Bloomberg soda law, that:
-enforces no cap on portion size
-protects the right to keep toys in kids meals
-protects the right for companies to not display calorie counts or nutritional information other food
Umm, how can you even view the party as anything but celebrating poor choices and ignorance in this instance.
And it is a terribly fiscally damaging choice as it increases health costs for a state that is already 50 degrees of fucked when it comes to diabetes and obesity.

How expensive is housing around central park. Is there a neighborhood near it that is not upscale but also not shooty.
It's all brutally expensive if you want to be within a block of it. You can head waaaay east or west and be parallel to the park and get away with a 1500-2000/mo rent for a small studio or 1br.
Right off the park the floor is 2200 a month for a shitty studio unless you have rent control.
