Any one here still play this gem? It had everything: A decent Cold War Era story, excellet realism and a multitude of mission. An ecellent mission editor and mod support keeps the game's communitty following strong. The GOTY edition is now on GAmetap and it's a pretty cheap buy else where. It's puesdo-sequal, Armed Assault is not out in the US but it may be in the UK. ArmA, from I've played isn't quite as good as OFP but has better graphics. There is an xbox version OFP but i've heard it's not so good

I'm not sure that anyone here still plays it. I know I would be if I could find my manual so I could actually use a legit CD-key, but alas, I do not.

I'm pretty sure the modding community for it is still alive, though.

Multiplayer was never very popular and the netcode was awful, so I'm sure no one plays that anymore, really.

Flashpoint is hands down my favorite shooter ever. It can be a bit overwhelming and downright unforgiving at times but I still enjoy the hell out of it.
We actually had a thread on here about OFP and ArmA. Though, it kinda fell off the first page and into oblivion.

The mod community is absolutely huge. Theres so many different mods out for Ofp. Whole islands, weapons, vehicles, animations, textures, sounds.. you friggin name it bud.

My favorite mods for Ofp would definitely have to be Finnish Defence Force, Capture the Island and a mod based on Stalker (which I can't remember the name of).
The Stalker mod was a bit buggy but generally enjoyable. At least for me it was.

With succession of patches theyve tightened up the code quite a bit. My friend in Australia and I played Capture the Island for 10hrs with no problems what so ever.

As for the key, you might be able to contact Bohemia and they might be able to give you a new key or send you a new disc. I had that problem when I received the Ofp Gold and they just sent me a whole new copy of the original.

    So.... Game On?

I always LOVED making custom maps where me and a team of 10 snipers would be positioned a mile away from an army of a couple hudred enemy soldiers. I'd start customizing those situations giving the enemies certain orders to follow and patrols and what not. Then I started adding tanks and shit. Soooo much fun.

    Operation Flashpoint files via Filefront
    Avon Ladys OFP FAQ
    Finnish Defence Force

Unfortunately I can't seem to find any of the cti mods. I'll have to dig up my archives and see if the cti files are there. If so, I'll send em to any interested party.

Asides from firearms and operable vehicles, yea.. they're nothing alike. Ofp definitely leans more towards the sim genre then anything else. Which is probably why alot of people are turned off by it.

Yeah I know. What I ment was that OFP did the whole vechicular FPS thing before BF1942, albiet in a much more realistic (and in my opinion better) fashion.

On the mods note, Wargames League and much of the Ballistic Addon Studios stuff is pretty good.

So where might one procure this game? I am intrigued and perhaps a little turned on by the prospects of this game.

Considering its a few years old, it'll prove prove difficult to find. EBay and Amazon marketplace are the only results I'm seeing so far. I think you can buy it off of D2D too.

Might get lucky browsing bargin bins and what not at your local b&m stores.
It'll be hard to obtain, but certainly worth it. Try if you can to get the GOTY edition. It'd be a major wench trying to finding the exps.

If I see anything I'll link it.

Used to be. When Ofp was released it did have quite a few bugs. After a handful of patches its become quite stable. Only problems I've encounter post-1.96 is the issue with the ports. If you have the required ports blocked on a firewall or router then the game will most likely hang when trying to join a mp game.

I'm hoping the same will be true for Armed Assault. Especially since all the Ofp mods are compatible with it.
Hopefully will see the same support for ArmA as we did with Ofp.

If we get any games going, we definitely need to have some fun with some of the zombie mods.

Armed Assault is slated for May 07 release. Atari will be publishing it. They are using SecuRom for disc protection. The downloadable Czech and German versions carry StarForce. (hiss)

SecuROM is Sonys anti-copy protection for PC games. It's not as intrusive as StarForce but it can cause problems. A note in the SecuROM wiki article states:

"The version of SecuROM that comes with Armed Assault and S.T.A.L.K.E.R prevents the game from running at all if Process Explorer, a free tool offered by Microsoft, has been run since the previous reboot."

You can read more about it on the website SecuROM and the SecuROM Wiki Article if you're interested.

SecuRom has some problems with certain disc drives (or used to). That would be the ones that read the discs, not hard drives. Anyway, it's impossible to say if you'll have problems until you try it since even the affected drive models didn't find that every drive was affected. It was all completely random.

It just wouldn't read the disc or be able to authenticate it once the game was installed. Nothing horrid like StarForce.

To me, ArmA seems like a graphical update of OFP with a few new features in a more modern setting. I think the developers realeased it to tide us over until "Game 2" which is supposed to be a full fledged sequel to OFP. But ArmA is by no means a bad game. It just seems more evolutionary that revolutionary.

One of my favorite thing about Flashpoint is how contacts woth the enmey are reported Only contacts that your squad has spotted are automatciaally radioed to you, and the rest can be shown on the map by squad leaders. A typical message would go like this

    4: SOLDIER, 9 O'CLOCK, 250.

That was cool, how your hud wasn't an omnipresent being that could inform you of any enemy's location within 300m. Also cool how you could inform your squad of an enemy's location by right-clicking while looking at an enemy through the binoculars.

I found an older version of the original Conquer the Island.
You can download the files from the link below. Current MF version is 1.16.

    MF Conquer the Island

    From the CtI wiki article:

"Conquer the Island or Capture the Island is a game mode for Operation Flashpoint.
The idea is that two teams are placed on the same island with one construction vehicle each, a Mobile Headquarter or MHQ.

Each team has a commander (either AI or human) who can use the construction vehicle to build factories.
From these factories the troops can buy weapons, squad members, vehicles and planes using virtual money.
The money is earned by capturing and holding towns on the island, killing enemies and recycling destroyed vehicles.

Victory is achieved by either holding all towns on the island or destroying all the enemy factories and their construction vehicle."

It varies from CtI to CtI, but Mike Melvins version (above) has 9 player teams. I've seen some CtI games with 20 on each.

Each player can command up to 11 units. Thats 216 units fielded for both teams.
Which makes one hell of a shit storm should they all collide.
That's also not including civilians and resistance.

Any player slot not controlled by a player will be taken over by AI.
It'd probably be funner with a full roster of players but you can just as easily play with AI and it'd still be enjoyable.

Seriously though, CtI is some of the best gaming I've ever had I highly recommend it to any Ofp player.

This is the uber site for addons.

    Bi Forums.

Flashpoint Elite(xbox) was the way I discovered OFP. I love the game. Elite was almost like a test bed for a lot of the things implemented in ArmA. Streaming terrain, more ambient wildlife(bugs, birds, butterflies), self shadowing on everything, bump/normal mapping, HDR. It's also more stable online with Live I guess.(don't gots *sad face*)
