G&T Castlevania contest: win 360 symphony of the night!

Oi everyone!

As many of you know, Castlevania: Symphony of the night was released on Xbox Live Arcade this past wednesday, and like myself, many of you have bought and played it until your 360 melted, loving every single second of it's glorious sweet candy like flavours. Unfortunately, many of you don't have the funds to put towards a title right now or are saving up for Mass Effect and Bioshock. If this applies to you, then LISTEN UP!

A group of very generous, far too awesome rad people sent me a XBLA Castlevania download as a gift, but since I already bought the game, i'm allowed to share it with someone in the community who deserves a pat on the back. However, since i can't decide among the bevy of people here who are all fantastic members and supporters, and i'd rather support the community as a whole, we're going to have a contest among peers to see who will earn some Castlevania love!

On the line is a free download of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on XBLA, full version, from Polago and generous awesome rad people to you.

To enter: Using the medium(s) of your choice, depict the famous intro to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as it could've been had it taken place between famous characters other than Richter and Dracula. Something simple and timeless as Mario vs Wario would work, or current as Phil Harrison vs Reggie, and even odd as Pipboy vs Moneybags, whatever pairing (or more) that you wish. The only stipulation is that it MUST be game, or game industry related. Otherwise, be creative and go nuts.

If you have never seen or heard of this famous intro before, FEAR NOT, for here are two youtube links of it. The first is the Richter/Dracula conversation alone, while the second has the full fight, and some portions before and after (for those who want to go the extra mile).

This contest will end with the winner being announced on Friday, March 30th. Notification will be given out ahead of time announcing when the cutoff hour will be, so there'll be ample warning to anyone creating an epic of fabled legend. Entries will be graded primarily on creativity and concept by the council of optimistic judgement (a couple dudes and I), and of course on effort and polish. Post your entries in this thread so that everyone can enjoy your masterpieces. This is a community after all.

If any questions arise, post them in this thread and i'll reply accordingly.

This strikes me as something that should almost be cross posted in SE++/Artist's Corner (although askin some mods might be in order first).

There's some huge talent in both places that could end up providing ginourmous amounts of humor and/or greatness.

I'v not got an Xbox 360, never played SOTN (although I really want to) but I'v got a fucking awesome idea I'm going to have to try after watching that intro.

EDIT: Can I leave in Dracula and just replace Richter?

EDIT 2: Bonus points for choosing the first video, the person who uploaded it has loads of episodes of Earthworm Jim uploaded too, yaay!

If I had the skill, I would do an animation where Kratos runs in and rips Dracula's guts out before Dracula even has a chance to speak.

Well, I'd change Dracula into someone else, but you get the idea.

Keep in mind that "medium" isn't just visual in the sense of images and video, but also auditory with regards to Voice acting and music, and writing as well. Wanted the contest to include more people than any specific art competition would allow, and this would at least ensure that people would all have an oppertunity, unlike if i'd held a worms HD or Gears of War tourney for it.

Not to be a stickler or anything, but this thread hasn't really gotten the most positive response. Maybe people aren't posting that they are actually taking part in the contest, but if there isn't any real support for it, then i'd rather know now so that this can be locked or taken down.

Hey every...well, not really anyone I suppose. :O

Friday is long gone now, which means the deadline for the contest has long past. Only 1 entry was made of any kind, anywhere, and that was from Hotlead Junkie with his Godhand drawing. Unfortunately, the only person to enter the contest in ANY respect also doesn't have an Xbox 360 and said himself that he wasn't entering (but would if he could), so as a result there isn't a winner for the prize outlined in the op.

I'll be honest and say i'm really dissapointed with the lack of any turnout or interest, but that's how these things workout it seems. Unfortunate since it could've been a rad thread, especially given the bevy of entries and laughs that come from the photoshop threads.

Anyways, a mod can lock this now. I'll find someone who can make use of the download.

Sorry Pola, that really sucks. I've never Castlevania-ed it up, but this certainly looked promising. I would've entered had I any talent, but alas I'm up a creek. Wish you would've got a better turnout. Maybe if it was a "Worst Changing of the Intro" I would've stood a chance, but as it was, it was far too overwhelming for the less-talented like me. Here's hoping that it goes to someone awesome.

1. Love Castlevania
2. Own an Xbox 360
3. don't yet have SOTC
and 4. Are tallented

Well, I enjoyed drawing that anyway, but I agree on the whole 'specificness' of the contest.

But if you ever come across a copy of Catlevania SOTN for the playstation you know where to send it to, hint hint.

In the case of the specificness, what would the people here suggest? I didn't want to do a gears of war or worms HD tournament since that would require the games in the first place (though would at least mean they had a 360). Didn't want it to be purely a drawing contest since that would really limit people, so it became an "any medium" contest to better include more of the public. The actual subject matter (famous intro) didn't seem too constrictive and was a good guideline so that people didn't become too lofty with their aspirations, so it became the subject, and was happily in context with the rest of the prize.

If someone can suggest something that would be more inclusive or that would net a larger turnout, i'll restart the contest for another week, otherwise it'll stay closed. Only requirement is that it's not a "pick names from a hat" entry contest.

Suggestions will be open for the day today, and part of sunday. Whatever is mentioned here will probably be used for a future contest too to have a better reaction.
