Anti-D&D Movie

jetnightshadejetnightshade Registered User new member
I can’t believe we are still dealing with this! I just read on the Escapist that some “silly goose” is making Jack Chick’s “Dark Dungeons” into a movie.

For those of you who don’t know, Dark Dungeons is a comic by Jack T. Chick; a fundamentalist comic book artist who uses his comics to shows why people are going to go to hell and his comic about D&D seems to perpetuate every negative thing you’ve heard about D&D in your life, that you’ll kill yourself over your character, that you’ll join the occult, etc and run with it.

I can’t believe so many people want this to be made, what’s wrong with them? I thought we were beyond this.

If the Kickstarter for this movie is any indication, the person is making this movie ironically.

There's a kickstarter. Can't be linked, but easy to find on Google.

    Man, I haven't played D&D in years.

Part of me wants to look up to see if there are any groups looking for players in my city, but I'm not sure I would want to be playing with a complete group of strangers. Plus I don't have any material newer than early 4th edition and I'm not about to buy new books only to attend one meeting and give it up due to not meshing with the group.

A movie discussing the dangers of Dungeons and Dragons seems like it would be about 25 years too late, ironic or not.

I am fairly that if I grabbed anyone in their early 20's off the street I would not find many that have actually heard of it.

Edit: After actually reading the link and seeing the budget, guy probably knows the scope/audience he's going for ain't gonna be too big.

Picking up right where the last one left off—albeit with a new cast, a new director, and perhaps a little more fiscal discipline in the production budget— Part II hits the current political scene in stride, incorporating the Occupy Wall Street protests into its dystopian vision of makers and takers, the 1 percent who innovate and the 99 percent who sponge off the profits.

Sadly, it does sound like he's doing this as a joke. Which means it probably won't be funny. If it was made with complete sincerity, it could have been hilarious.

Only reason to play 4.0 is if you don't have any 3.5 materials

Well, that all depends. I mean, my friends and I keep tossing the idea back and forth of remaking The Final Sacrifice with some cameras we have and doing it knowing that it'll be uniformly terrible, but really trying to nail it to the best of our ability with the foreknowledge of our failure. We think there's potential comedy there.

Or, he could be going for a Lost Skeleton of Cadavera vibe, which could work, but probably won't.

    We'll see.
