actually while you're in there replacing the larynx just go ahead and rip everything else out, replace it with a modular system
swap in that chest or these legs with those arms
different product lines of different shape and proportions
gender and physical identity defined by capitalism oh no I've gone somewhere terrifying help
oh man I wish! Replace my dumb digestive system with one that doesn't have (occasionally crippling) IBS and they have all my moneys. Bonus if it plays mp3s and I can charge my phone in it.
Whoops, didn't realize this thing was at 100 pages, didn't mean to reply to a post out of context with non thread related stuff. Wanted to read up about this and learn some more from a personal perspective, since I don't know anyone transgendered (as far as I know) irl. I find all the permutations of personhood fascinating (sexual and otherwise, I.e. how each of the 7 billion of us will lead a completely unique life).
I've only ever met one person that was transgendered and at the time I didn't even know it. Was someone working few years ago at a contractor site for a product that interacts with ours, and I had gone to visit for some testing. She was and to me remains a woman, I could not tell at all, but I guess she was a guy some time before because my boss's boss was giving my boss a hard time for flirting with her. Not much you can say in that position.
It has to be rough feeling like ones body is incorrect gender, I can't even wrap my head around it, but my heart goes out to you. This world is harsh enough in general. I wonder about how much interplay living conditions in a culture have to do with level of acceptance. That is to say, how much "you have to propagate so our tribe can be succesful" influenced ostrocising in early cultures and then just stuck around. Or like in Thailand (according to what I saw on an Anthony Bourdaine show, please don't shoot me if I'm wrong) the youngest sibling is expected to take care of parents in a femenine role (regardles of physical gender) and so the society is very welcoming to transgendered people.
Perhaps a dumb question. Going from boy to girl, can you still produce viable sperm after? Is it reversible to the point you could? What about uterus going girl to boy, can you still cary a baby to term? Same question if not.
Speaking of which, I walked in to the planned parenthood in Fresno, ca and walked out with prescriptions.
I did this in Santa Cruz.
Planned Parenthood really pulled through, there. The doctor is amazing and pretty much operates on a "when it comes to this, patient knows best" model.
Oh, hey, I have a bunch of trans friends that went to that exact same Planned Parenthood.
Miss me? Find me on:

If you take hormones and particularly things that inhibit/block male hormones, then there is a very high chance you will be rendered sterile.
As for the other question...didn't a trans man have a kid? I swear that was on the news years ago, but my memory is hazy there.

It is pretty great. First time I went I got the physician's assistant. He was like "Oh, actually I don't really know about this, I'm still learning. But I know the doctor will want bloodwork before starting so get that done and reschedule one with her."
So I did and then basically it was show up, how's it going, sounds good, want some estrogen or T blockers?
Very good and I am now totally spoiled. Good thing I can come back during breaks for prescription refills.
Well even if post-op they could just do a cesarean, couldn't they? Granted I don't know how getting pregnant to start would work, but I'm not about to discount science.
for some reason it didn't click in my head that they'd still be pre-op
He is post-op. He has top-surgery. That is post-operation. Do you mean, you thought he'd have bottom surgery? It's not as common for transmen to get bottom surgery as it is for transwomen to.
It's for reasons like this that terms like post-op are silly and out-dated.
I think it has to do with people assuming post-op to specifically deal with the genitals. Though you are right, getting the top done as a transman is totally post-op and yeah it's super weird thinking about that language now.
it's especially silly because post-op is used in language as, "Are you complete in your transition? Are you post-op?" when a lot of trans* people never go through surgery at all, but are complete in their transitions.
goodnight, precious babies in a precious thread. If you have any unanswered questions, I am sure me or Metalbourne would be happy to answer them in PM.
And now, in closing, in the words of Oscar Wilde, "I am not young enough to know everything."

Laughed a little too hard at this.

That's really cool now that I know the context, though.
????
Why
the only problems are that you have to go off testosterone for a long before before getting pregnant, as far as I can recall
maybe kind of difficult to explain to the doctors
but
they're doctors, they should get what's up once you tell them
for some reason it didn't click in my head that they'd still be pre-op
