Remember this game?
No?
Well, for those of you that don't: Realms of Arkania is a three part series originally developed in germany by Attic Entertainment and later published in the states by Wizardry developer Sir-Tech. It's based on the german role-play system *The Dark Eye* which has recently seen a revival in video gaming with the Drakensang Series, the adventure Chains of Sativa and the upcoming Demonicon. In january it was announced that the series will be remade, beginning with the first game in the series *Blade of Destiny*. And as of a week ago we also have a video of the alpha thanks to the german gaming magazine Gamestar. Who also have a preview (german!)
here.

- As with the original, the game will primarly be played in first person, but switches to an isometric view for battles.
- Additionaly, charachters can now utilise cover, like barrels.
- Traveling is also done similarly to the original games (Maptravel/utilising team members for night watch/hunting and so on) . Cities and their enviroment can be freely traversed.
- Of big importance for the team is making the rule-system more accessible through tutorials
- Playtime should be around 80 hours
- The targeted price is 20 Euro

Thanks for the heads-up about this. I never tried the other RoA games.

Started to play Star Trail again recently and while I had fun planning and rolling up a party once I started the actual game I just sorta fizzled out.
I have the series from one of my collection sprees. Never got around to playing it.
Developers are learning that it's much simpler to update the look of something that was already well-crafted and conceived than try to do the conceiving yourself. Imagination is the part of game development that isn't a skillset per se, and while there are masses of people with the skills to build a game, there appears to be a shortage of proven designers.
Fortunately we're getting fancier versions of the good old stuff out of it; just about everyone wins in this scenario.
Ah, the joys of catching a disease when walking through swampland, because you lost your boots wading through deep mud...
Any idea of a release date ?
End of july for the german version and september for the englisch one.
Also
It releases 3 or 4 days after Shadowrun.
That's some really interesting timing.
And by interesting, I mean FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
I have £23 in steambux saved for the Summer Sale, but may end up saving that for Blade of Destiny.
Problem solved !!! Just realised I get paid the day after Blade launches, so problem solved.
Bring on the sale ! I need more games I won't get a chance to play !
Should run perfectly.
I wonder if your party carries over into the next game ?
You could import parties into the original Trilogy, right ?
Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
Video in the OP at 1.24
Some more info from their facebook page (where they answer questions)
Yes, will be possible.
Excellent...

I came THIS close to buying it, using nearly half of my Summer Sale cash.
I'll hold on, though - if nothing catches my eye during the Sale, I'll grab it.
And try and finish Shadowrun in a week...

Just had a quick look - parts of the text are in German.
Guess I'll be waiting for a patch...
At least they seem to be dedicated on fixing. Wonder if it was rushed out by the publisher.
I'll inform you and the thread when its playable.
- Another Patch + Hotfix is planned for today. Hotfix fixes save corruption bug.
[Playable] NO
Patching.......
I've created my party, so I'm ready to go when the game is.
I think the game needed another month of polishing.
Found a few bugs in the character creation screen - hitting Tab when in the first name box doesn't move the cursor into the next box. It instead swaps the screen for the background. Hitting tab again gets the screen back.
Also found a bug when dragging characters around in the party box. If you have two characters in slots 1 and 2, then delete character 1, you can the drag character 2 into slot 1. This then leaves a black slot where character 2 used to be, and you can't get the slot back, meaning you're now a team member down.
I had to quit a start a new game after finding that one. :-)
Never mind, I'm sure Guild Wars 2 will keep me entertained until RoA 1 is ready to go.
There's also a shedule up for upcoming patches.
I'm just amazed that they didn't even implement everything. This was like Pre-Beta material by release.
....
Well, with that speed we may even get the full game before 2013
:P
As such though. It still stands that you shouldn't buy yet if you don't want to play a beta.
I think they should finish making the game they've already fucking sold me before they worry about sequels.
I'm going to delete this from Steam and wait until the new year - it's not ready to be played and Steam just slows down having to redownload a new version of this every few days, so there's no actual point in having it installed.
What a fucking rip-off.
The sad part is that the developers themselves didn't even really realize this reaction was going to happen before release. They are literary 2 people on the project with the studios history in online games where patching after release was the standard.
I'll give ya a heads-up when everythings sorted.
