The pits are chaffing me

Google scared me with cancer-like health issues so I come to PA

Not sure what is causing my arm pits to be itchy and hurting but lately I feel I need to have my arms up to air them out. I am currently using Dove's Men deodorant powder and I put on vaseline/moisturizer to help with irritation. I haven't changed deodorant, aside from the weather getting slightly warmer.

Help with cause and remedies.

Fungal perhaps? If your pharmacy doesn't have some kind of catch all fungal cream, look for stuff like ringworm, athletes foot and jock-itch treatments and ask the pharmacist if it would be safe to apply those to your arm pits.

Another possibility, if you had chicken pox as a child, is shingles.

Or it could be an allergic reaction to something else. New clothes, detergent, soap.

It is probably not shingles. Shingles get this really distinctive red rash and it hurts like you would not believe. It also tends to cover fairly large areas but small outbreaks are possible.

I'd discontinue the deodorant, partly because every deodorant I know of has a "if rash develops, discontinue use" on it and partly because its always helpful to be able to eliminate a possible cause. The deodorant might simply be exacerbating something else that would heal on its own if it got the time.

You might wanna try different deodorants. I have pretty sensitive skin and before I found a good brand for me, deodorants would really irritate my skin to the point of severe itchiness and pain.

I will lay low on the deodorant but need to find a way to stay fresh while at work, maybe a week can let the rash heal. Also over night I didn't put on deodorant but my sweat alone irritates the pits.

Yeah. Probably fungus rash. Could be eczema. Maybe just from dryness. I'd try the antifungus stuff.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them

Yeah, same here. I can't use the gel looking solid deodorants. I have to use the dry ones. I've been using Axe Dry for years and it's worked great for me.

Third'd. I switched to the Arm and Hammer Unscented one a long time ago when I had a problem like OP's and it has pretty much taken care of it.

Specifically you're probably looking for a fragrance free antiperspirant stick, probably without aluminium (do your best to find one without)

You might have an aluminium allergy, or, like others have said, fungal infection going on.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

I will get chaffing in hot months too sometimes when doing a lot of travelling/walking around. I usually pack some baby powder, or gold bond, slap some on when that chaffing feeling starts, and it usually helps out.

I've never come out with a full on rash though, so take that with a grain of salt.
