[Uknown Ponies] Troubles in Everfree Forest
Posts
"You brought lunch? That's good. I grabbed what I could from home but I'm not sure I have enough for everyone else." Vigilance gazes at the party he's fallen in with and does some quick mental arithmetic. "We're still missing one pony, looks like. Maybe she's already at the Library?"
Dismissing the silly idea of formal education, Charity breaks into a grin at Vigilance. "Oh, right! Lunch. Well, i got a bit or two, so let me russle something up." She breaks across the street, letting Vigilance go, and hauls to a stop in front of a fruit vendor. "Load us up with some goodness for my new pals here."
<Charity deducts three bits from her allowance!>
"And, yeah, I think we're still missing Miz Skybright." he agrees, looking up at the sky. "Come on!" he shouts as he races off.
She starts to ramble, describing more and more vividly horrific ways a pony might pass on, seemingly oblivious to the gloom she is projecting. "...and then all they'll find is the tuft of your tail!"
"Please stop talking like that. Let's just get this request from Princess Luna over with already."
For speeds sake it'd be useful for everyone to get together in about two or three posts and get headed off to the Everfree forest.
Also Jeez, some of you ponies don't sound the slightest bit grateful for a deity selecting you randomly to do a potentially fatal task. Kids these days
Shimmy stares at Vigilance with an angry look on his face without saying anything. Shimmy's face puffs up at the remark on who the slowest pony was. Without saying anything he dives in his lunch saddle and grabs a Big juciy Macintosh apple and starts munching on it.
I guess the concept of death and maiming isn't something that plays nice with a native Equestrian's worldview?
Technically I could probably have put it under violence check as well. Depends on how Charity described the horrible deaths.
"Hey, I think that's the last member of our group!" he tells the others. "HEY, MIZ SKYBRIGHT!" he yells towards the filly as he gallops towards her.
"Flying must be cool, like a bajillion times better than walking!"
"But, in any case, what's on the map?"
In addition to the map fell out a simple crescent shaped amulet. Crafted in silver and shimmering in the sunlight. A small note wrapped around it's chain emphasising it's role as a rescue beacon and that it was only to be worn should rescue be needed.
She squints at the map in an attempt to parse its directions.
Geth roll 1d100
EDIT: Also you might wanna use an external roller like invisible castle to make it so you don't have to make two posts.
EDIT: From the dice rolling testing thread I don't think you can spoiler dice rolls.
EDIT2: Ah, nevermind. You just can't tell it to roll dice outisde of a spoiler and put another set in a spoiler or else both rolls won't be spoiled.
EDIT3: Sorry if I'm not on the up and up. First time RPing, let alone forum RPing.
Also regarding rolls systemically UA has 3 types:
Minor Skill checks: If under no duress, are not at risk and have at least 15% in the skill it's assumed to be a success. So for example if your character has lock picking at 20% and is picking a lock with no enemies to find him and no timelimit it's presumed he can do the lock without issue. You can still choose to roll these if you want to see how well you do (critical successes/matched successes etc. etc.) but you can't actually fail.
If you don't have an appropriate skill you can take minors against a stat but the stat takes a -30 penalty and the only possible outcome in success is the bare minimum (eg, your guy picks the lock but also makes a decent amount of noise and maybe sets off the silent alarm).
Significant skill checks: Situations with uncertainty but little risk (which could for example be... interpreting a map that could lead you past dangerous situations if done wrong, there's no risk inherent in the reading of the map but it's uncertain as to whether the character would succeed). In this case you roll against your skill level again. Rolling under is a strong success (perfect route to the disturbance), rolling over but still under your stat is a weak success (you'll get there but maybe you take the scenic route) and rolling over your stat is a failure. Again people can roll against their stat-30 for a weak success.
Major skill checks: Situations where time is important and or the pony is at risk. Making up a lie on the spot infront of the canterlot guards or being in combat could be examples. You just roll against your skill level. If you don't have a skill for the situation you can only succeed on a roll against a stat with criticals (01) or a matched pair (22, 33, 44 etc. etc.).
In general I'll trust you guys to decide the level of the roll and whether there's any modifiers (+ or - up to 30 covers pretty much even the most extreme advantages/dis-advantages) but I reserve the right to change the roll and/or alter something in the story if I disagree.
I might also set up an IRC if I find a way too so you can chat out a roll if I'm about.
He pauses, "Huh, Didn't Miz Cherrilee do something about maps last week?"
"I must have dozed off that day," he admits, turning the map around a few times. "I'm more at home with star charts... Pointy thing means north, right?"
I support this idea. I support this idea a lot.
If you'd like some help with the irc thing, let me know. I've been using one for my group for a couple years now and they're pretty great for keeping in touch and handling quick questions.
Also IRC should be #FailureIsMagic on mibbit, though I don't know how to link to it
Failure.
"Uh, nevermind..." he mutters.
