Question is can Moffat make him a great Time Lord.

I want to see something different than the previous two and I do question if Moffat is up to the task. His Smith run didn't blow me away.

Well the new actor's certainly older then the previous Doctors, so I don't expect the same sort of physical action from him like the last three. Not that I expect him going about with a cane either but...

I think we are THANKFULLY going to get beyond the Doctor/ companion "love interest" undercurrent. RTD made it a central thing, Moffat has tried to squash it as best he could - now I think it is finally done.

My wife stated that teenage girls everywhere just cried, a lot.

I did want Idris Elba or Helen Mirren but Capaldi is for me more than enough.
At least he's older, I do hope he keeps his accent unlike Tennent (Don't know if he wanted to or was asked to) But yes I'm more than happy Mr Tucker is in the TARDIS!

Peter Capaldi will also be the first Oscar winner to play the Dr too it seems.

So apparently, Capaldi used to be vocalist for a band called The Bastards from Hell, which also included Craig Ferguson. Ferguson has said Capaldi inspired him to try comedy.

As if I didn't like Capaldi enough as it is.

according to neil gaiman, a black actor has been offered the part of doctor who before but turned it down

but it's also something he's been told in confidence so we won't know who that was

Someone make Butler a mod so he can just go around and change everyone's topic titles.

Oh, man, it's going to be a contest between Tennant and Capaldi as to who was the bigger fan before becoming the Doctor. Apart from that letter brought up in the live broadcast last night, Capaldi formed a Doctor Who fan club during the Pertwee era, and according to Capaldi's entry on the Doctor Who wiki:
During the Jon Pertwee years of Doctor Who, Capaldi sent scripts to the production office. Barry Letts began a correspondence with Capaldi, which eventually resulted in an invitation for the youngster to visit BBC Television Centre. Capaldi met Letts, Terrance Dicks and Pertwee. He would later cite the incident as formative to his career as a professional actor, writer and director.

Tennant married a former Doctors daughter. I don't really know if you can top that. Maybe marry a former Doctor?

My money is on Idris Elba.

But we're just not ready for Luthor in space.

I actually get the feeling it was Paterson Joseph. He's mentioned he turned down the part because he felt it was too close to his character in Neverwhere, IIRC. Remember how the bookies were super keen on his chances for Eleven? I think he might have been an early contender, got offered, declined and they went with Smith. But the information might've been leaked, hence Joseph's name cropping up all over the place.

    Just a thought.

Oh, it gets so much better than that. See, Georgia Moffett also went to school with Colin Baker's daughter, plus Tennant and Moffett have had a daughter together.

So the Doctor married the Doctor's daughter who went to school with the Doctor's daughter and played the Doctor's daughter, and together they've had the Doctor's daughter.

Speaking of black actors who might have been good in the role. Adrian Lester comes to mind. I only saw him in Hustle, but I thought he was brilliant there.

I am happy with their choice, but a little sad that my dream of the doctor getting younger and younger until the last doctor was a kid and we had an Encyclopedia Brown Doctor Who has been crushed.

  • Al_watAl_wat Registered User regular
man for the last few years, I have been satisfied with Doctor Who and everything but my eagerness to watch it was kind of waning. Like I wasn't waiting in anticipation for the episodes to hit. When they came out, great, I watched them, I liked them. But I wasn't waiting on the edge of my seat.

I am now on the edge of my seat again

    fucking hurry up already time
