Lack of analogue would definitely make it more difficult, but WASD/Space for Bro 1 and arrow keys/Ctrl for Bro 2, or something similar, would seem perfectly functional.
Oh hang on, I just remembered there's stick rotating bits. That would be a pain in the ass with keyboard or lose something of the experience to be reduced to a single key press.

I'm intrigued as to how they've done it now.
That is exactly how it is mapped, but you are doing yourself and the game a disservice by not using a controller.

that set up would certainly make sense but i'm still curious as to how it works in practice. having played through the game on the 360 i feel like using anything but a controller would feel off somehow.
and congrats to @darleysam for his wonderful pun in the thread title.

Yeah, I just tried out the PC version, the bits where you would rotate the sticks are just one key-press.
I didn't find using the keyboard all that awkward actually (having already 100%'ed the game on 360), but maybe I have a bit more left-right brain dexterity than most people. :bz
I have been holding off on playing this since I have to finish a few other games but this does look amazing. I watched some gameplay and it looks super interesting.
at first glance, yeah, it does look like its a 2-player co-op but the removal of that 2nd person is part of what makes the game so special. even if it was 2-player i think it'd have to be local co-op only. seems like there'd be something lost if your partner was miles away and out of sight.
Yeah, my girlfriend and I considered playing it with each of us taking a side of the controller, but we would've totally lost something. Hell, I played through it first and finished it with her watching, and while I was moved by what I'd played, her reaction was more "okay, well, that was nice". Then she played through it and found it far more engrossing for having played and interacted with the game. As reviews are saying, it's absolutely something that only works as a game because it requires that interaction.

I have to say I really agree with that video.
Why it makes picking my GotY so difficult.
Brothers has been the first game to get such a strong reaction from me in a long time(I think MGS3 was the last), but I don't know if its my favorite game of everything I played.
Either way, I'm sure it'll be in my top 3.
Whether or not its my #1 will depend on how much I like GTA5.
some interesting stuff in there, especially(end game spoilers)
GB: From your perspective, as the developer and storyteller, why did the brother have to die?
Fares: I wanted the player to connect with the brothers, left hand big brother and right hand little brother. I really like the idea that you physically feel that you are not using your left hand anymore in the end. There is a reason that big brother, who you control with the left stick, dies--because people normally use the left stick to control the character. That creates an even more odd feeling when you are not using it in the end.
it wasn't something i specifically thought about at this time, but as he mentions it there is an odd disconnect during the last section of the game. a feeling that while you have to carry on, there's something not quite right. its easy to just put that down to the loss of the older brother, but thinking about it now i'd certainly agree that using the right stick instead of the left plays apart in this.
We are all gonna lose something as we get old. Family and health. A lot of us here are adults with money and it's the time relative and friends start to perish.

Kotaku sometimes publishes a section called Fine Art in which they showcase works from artists that have worked in the industry. Guess who they had recently featured, Henrik Sahlström. He is a DICE employee but worked on Brothers.
I feared that would happen. I guess a lot of people are put off by the "3 hours long" stuff (people who've probably paid more for a cinema ticket this year), and any other factors that could be at work, like caution about the controls or not liking the setting. It's a shame, I hope that Starbreeze aren't put off trying something like it again. I just hope it wasn't an expensive development, really.
Just finished this game. What an ending! Probably the strongest emotional response I felt while playing any game, ever...
Also, while the art and design of the game was gorgeous, the graphics of this gen consoles is really starting to show age.... really looking forward to 2014 now!
For the record, i could not agree less with yathzee. Good interview with fares though (except for some exaggerations - he did not make "the most popular movie in Sweden") - too bad that he will not do another game project for a while.
So, I finally just started playing this. Digging it so far. Made it just past the sad ogre segment, and I continued on without trying to see if the boys thank him. I bet the younger one hugs him.
He was so sad

Didn't hit me in the feels as hard as I thought it would, going from what other people on the internet have said. Still pretty great though. I did get a little emotional when you had to use big brother's action button to make little brother swim. That was pretty brilliant.
The environments were superb! Mysterious fantasy world going on here, and the valley of dead giants was the best.
10/10 would play again.
Did run into an apparently infamous bug in chapter 2... Spent about 30 min trying to figure out what I was doing wrong before hitting up the internet. Restarted the chapter after I found out it was a bug, and it thankfully worked the second time. Soured me on the game, but only for a moment. It's so good, it made up for it.

it also won the 'Best Xbox Game' at yesterday's VGX event. i wouldn't rate the award to highly, but it is nice to see the game getting some recognition.
which is enough for me to take a punt on it. Interesting there's a warning though;
Notice: Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons requires a controller to play
Not a dealbreaker as I do most of my PC gaming with a controller anyway, just interesting to see it as the default option on a Steam game.
when you start to play it you'll realise why. its not impossible to play using a keyboard(in fact i think we discussed it earlier in the thread), but it was clearly designed with a control pad in mind.
hopefully the PA comic and the Steam sale will result in a few more people picking this on up as it is a truly delightful game, while at the same time being utterly heartbreaking.
