Let's all welcome Olinguito to the class
This handsome fellow is an olinguito, and as of the 15th of August, 2013, is the newest addition to the mammalia class. Usually newly discovered species are super ugly, so it's nice to have an adorable one for once.
They are native to South America, and are nocturnal omnivores.
There was actually one in zoos in the 70s that everyone thought was just an odd looking olingo that didn't want to mate for some reason. Turns out she was a different species and not really into bestiality.

And searching for Olingos (google wants to correct that to Goslings) taught me that it's been 35 years since somebody discovered a Carnivorous Mammal, which makes me wonder what the last Herbivore mammal was

With a skull like solid cement and a tendency to headbutt things
Wombats are weird.
What.
Basically something sat in a drawer forever and only recently did anyone decide to figure out why it was different.
What?

Oi, the noise they make when their skulls collide ... but I felt the same way with my baby goats. "How the hell does that not hurt you little bastards?"

this is quite possibly the most british post imaginable
the only thing it is missing is tea and a guy in a dress
We want wombat spotting once with some family friends at their remote cabin. Basically it's us riding in pick-up trucks around the area the wombats live in, using a spotlight and torches to watch their nighttime activities. We saw dozens of wombats swarming this field, shuffling and running between burrows. This family also brought their herding dogs along and they ran with the wombats too, however one border collie colliding head first with a wombat and after we drove back we realised the dog hadn't returned.
We were all a bit worried at first, the owners thought the dog was pretty much a goner, then at that second this dog comes stumbling into the house with a big goofy grin and tail wagging.
