Ohhh man tech thread. When I get paid, gonna get that note 8. Gonna take all the lecture notes. Gonna read and mark all the pdfs. Unless they are coming out with a new thing soon?

Oh man.
I was going to write a big post about the HTC One for somebody but then I got really lazy
PDFPen is hands down the best one out there, in my opinion. If you need a cheaper one, I think GoodReader has some basic annotation tools, but my go-to for editting PDFs on iPad/iPhone is PDFPen.

It came out this past April, so I don't see a direct successor coming before that time next year.
Are you ready, tech thread, for THE APPLE THING™ on Tuesday?
So last I checked (I really don't follow the rumors that much anymore because I've been pretty happy with my iDevices so I'm not chomping at the bit to replace them) here's what's happening:
#Very Likely
New iPhone 5S, faster, better battery, blah blah, and a fingerprint scanner built into the home button, used for unlocking the phone and ???
New cheap iPhone 5C in a bunch of colors with the 5's internals(?) but a plastic back and it'll be significantly cheaper
iOS 7 release date possibly the same day, I thought I remember seeing something about the GM being released on the 10th
#Maybe
New iPad Mini spec bump, retina display????
#Probably Not
Giant Size iPhone and iPad models
That pretty much covers it, right?
If they built the fingerprint scanner into the iPad, it would be a pretty neat way to have multiple accounts tied to a single iPad, the way the nooks and the android tablets have multiple accounts, but that's probably a pipedream.

If they have built a fingerprint scanner into the home button, that is a very neat idea.
The one concern I've read about that part is that even the best fingerprint scanners have a pretty short lifespan.
That rumor got a lot of steam after one of the iOS 7 betas included some VoiceOver documentation referencing what appeared to be instructions for setting up the scanning, describing an icon of a person holding their thumb on the home button to be scanned. Just the other day another thing came out that claimed to be the packaging for the 5S that showed a silver ring around the home button, to differentiate it from the other models.
Here's the mention of scanning
And the supposed silver ring on the packaging

Is the reason print scanners don't last long that the surface wears down?
I only ask because I've seen a bunch of rumors that the Home-button/scanner will be covered with a layer of sapphire.

At my old job for one of our tasks we used a couple of old (7+ years) Toshiba laptops and one of them had a fingerprint scanner that still worked. And this on a mine site!
I'm going to see if I can convince work to let me pick up an N7 for work-related stuff. It's possible that an Android tablet might be better for our outside people because I can remotely help them using TeamViewer and whatnot for Android, and since we're using Google Apps for Business most of their stuff will 'just work'

It's pretty nice on the iPad Mini, which is probably what I'll wind up getting if they announce a retina version soon.
I'm pretty sure I can sell off my iPad 3 for a decent value, and Lady SH's iPad 1 is really dogging it, so we figured that since the first anniversary is the 'paper anniversary' iPad's are like...digital paper, so we're both upgrading.
I've personally been completely ignoring all the hype and leaks about whatever the new iPhone is going to be. Not only do I not need, nor can I afford, nor am eligible for a new phone, and I like watching or reading the live blogs and being surprised about what the new stuff is.
It's just more fun that way not knowing what to expect.
I got an S4 about two months ago and I love this thing so much it has legit made my wife mad. I upgraded from an HTC Trophy and could not be more pleased. I loathed the Windows OS in every meaning of the word. It really irked how locked down the phone was for no reason. I adore customizability so Windows and Apple phones are not for me.
I have seen people mention the authenticator apps before and my curiosity is piqued. Which ones, preferably free, are recommended? I was seriously considering the HTC One but it had not launched at Verizon and I could not wait. I liked the aluminium backing but the more I thought about it the realization came it would be going in a protective shell anyways so why does that really matter? For me at least.
Interesting idea for a browser: Epic, built on Chromium, it's designed with complete privacy in mind, including built in proxy tools, automatic SSL connections where available, and automatically deletes all history on close.

Hrrrrrrgh.
Still do not have internet at home.
I am two episodes behind breaking bad and I'm not going to be able to install iOS7 tomorrow.

Yes. Good work dan.
(I am however a big enough nerd that on my way to work, I pre-cued everything I needed with Dropbox so once the internet switches on, hopefully in the middle of the day, it will just start pulling stuff off the internets)

Excited for the 5S because my 4 is getting slow. The "S" years aren't as exciting for me because of the lack of form factor updates. Just more horsepower. I'm ok with that though.

yeah, i had planned on making the two-year upgrade from my 4 to the 5 when it came out, but I eventually decided not to for whatever reason. I wish I had the willpower to hold out for the 6 (my phone would probably last if I got a battery replacement), but oh well - I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of a 3 year old iPhone 4, plus resale/trade-in value.

Well, this one is getting the thumbprint scanner, so it's sort-of new hardware beyond internal spec bumps.

it is uh
it is a pretty great phone and you should buy it
there is my review
It is making me want to buy one of the new ones.
But that is PS4 money. Gonna have to deal with just factory resetting it and hoping it runs more smoothly again

This was the article I found, but yeah, it could be they've compensated by using a higher-quality sensor or the sapphire thing.
Externally it's supposedly going to look like the iPad mini and have smaller bezels overall
Any suggestions for really well optimized and designed tablet apps?
