I have a Creative sound card, what mode should I set my drivers to?

I can set the mode to 5.1, 2.0, headphones. Since I'm using headphones, will this really matter? Should I set it to headphones? Will I lose sound channels if I set it to 5.1? The headphones mode sounds kind of... weird. Positional audio is what I care about most but I should get that automatically.
