I know the focus was more on the ice monster at the end, but anyone else notice that two English fighter pilots just flew into Vanaheim with their jets, shot it up, and didn't leave?

they came back
because I was hoping they'd get stuck there, and saw them show up again

They showed up in London again after the convergence ended.
The Avengers mid-credits sequence and the Thor 2 mid-credits sequence back-to-back, over and over again.
I love that they are just throwing this stuff out there. No explanation, no context beyond a few seconds of dialogue.. just a wink that something will be coming down the road. And everyone's buying in. The nerds are explaining the significance, the general public is along for the spectacle, and we are truly seeing comic books on screen, just as they are in print (in terms of tie-in events).

Dat Thor 2 pre-credits sequence...
The Collector? Infinity Gems!? Holy shit!!!
After seeing the flying longboats, I was really hoping to see the MCU version of this...
It's probably for the best, though. Now they've got something to save for the Surtur saga.

My prediction is that, at some point in the next 5-10 years**, the MCU callback-to-previous-movies references and to future events will cause them some slippage in the mainstream ratings, but by that point there will be an entirely new clutch of comic nerds out there because of the movies.
**Wow, typing that, knowing that Marvel is planning for at least that long a run (2-3 years between Avengers movies and they're already setting up for Avengers 3 or possibly 4, a TV series, and 3 future streaming series), and realizing that this is the kind of thing that has never happened in the history of the medium is kinda mind blowing.
Just take a step back and think about the kind of continuity they're weaving between TV, Streaming and Movies and just how long they can probably pull this one out.

I think this is why it's brilliant that the actual comics creators are so involved in the film side of the business. They've been running this kind of operation for decades, so it is just a case of bringing those skills to the movie business.
When the credits started to roll i had to pee really badly. I figured i had enough time to run to the bathroom before the after credits shot played. When i came back into the theater I was a few seconds into the first after credits bit.
I think i was there long enough to catch the jist, but i missed the very beginning. The first line i was there for was 'you dont want two infinity stones near each other'. Did they just give him the either? so thats what they are considering an infinity gem?
Anyone have a transcript so i can make sure i didnt miss anything?
Last night during Thor when it cut to Svartalfheim this loud family with kids behind us seemed mystified. Some kid asked, "What is that, daddy? Where are they? What does it say?" The dad replied, "It says ... Subluhbluh. *loud laugh*"
I have to admit that I was genuinely irritated and wanted to blurt out, "Obviously it's the BLACK - ELF - HOME like it says even if you don't already know what that is, you cultural illiterates."
Okay yes. I had the same feeling. I just kept yelling it in my head over and over again. Tried to mentally project the urge to pick up a book one day into the kid with my rage.
I do not think I succeeded.
Those are some mighty white dark elves, thats all i got to say.

so basically
the dude the give it to is the Collector (who will show up in Guardians of the Galaxy)
both the Tesseract and the Aether are Infinity Stones
the Asgardians feel it unwise to keep both in the same place, so they give the Collector one of them
after they leave the Collector is all "gotta catch 'em all"

They live in the dark, like "wood elves" live in the woods (but aren't actually made of wood).
And in that case being super albino actually makes a lot of sense, too.

Malekith was white with a bluish tint in the comics. His face was half white, half black,
which is why half his face is blasted off by Thor in the movie
I didnt see many trees on that world. They should have kept with the comics and made them dark blue. malakeith had half blue half purple face.
Yeah. Having all the elves blue-ish could have looked sharp and upped the "alien" factor for a weird species that ruled a universe of endless darkness and such.
I don't actually read the comics, I'm just explaining why I had zero problems with the Dark Elves being so pale.

Isn't Blue or Red really hard to get "right" on film? I remember that was part of the reason to change Prime's color scheme in the first Transformers movie.

Thor 2 was a great, great action movie hampered by a very weak love/relationship story, and the humor save for two spots fell very flat. The first film with its dutch angles and more slapstick tone went overboard but I feel like it had a better hit to miss ratio. This time, it was just that awkward humor that tried to mimic Whedon dialogue. I mean, with Iron Man you can have the snark because RDJ is just great at being that guy but you don't have that option with Thor, so they add more supporting characters who exist just to be punchlines or say a few things.
But man the action was great. The Dark Elves had a great design in both appearance and ships, and I love the ideas of letter openers fighting rowboats with lasers, it's so cool.
Actors were good all around except for Portman who seemed to phone it in, which is a shame because a few got the shaft for her. Again.
Why have Warriors Three if Hogun's just going to be in the movie for two minutes? I really expected more from Sif and the three, especially since they went and added Levi to the group. It almost felt like Marvel was thinking ahead and knew Alexander might get chosen as WW or snatched up for another blockbuster franchise so they didn't give her a lot here in order to possibly remove a Halle Berry situation later. Something was up, and she's so much better than Jane Foster like come on Marvel. You can't have any semblance of a love triangle if you completely ignore one key person.
the funny parts were the Cap cameo and Thor hanging Mjolnir on the coat rack like a gentleman.
I say Portman phoned it in because in that beautiful funeral scene I swear she's smirking, which is just messed up. Renee Russo was so much cooler than she was and only had 5 minutes of screentime, you don't smirk at her funeral.
I knew the hand cutting was a fake (once they opened up the illusion door they went a little overboard I think), but how cool would it have been to see Thor with a Stark hand, ptew ptew little lasers and everything.
Union Jack could have been seamlessly put into this film as I watched the Greenwich fight, just to help protect civilians from the dark elve redshirts, instead of slapstick hijinks from the interns.
And did anyone think Mjolnir, when it went into the atmosphere, was setting up for a scene like we saw in Infinity where it would punch a hole through Eccleston? I kept waiting for it but we got plot powered yard spikes.
It's better than Cap 1, but still not up there with Iron Man 1 or the Avengers. It's just below Avengers I think because of the Portman stuff.
If Winter Soldier is just like this film only it removes the forced humor and almost shoehorned in relationship stuff for the female audience, I think it will be the best of the marvel films to date, and it's actually made me more excited for it after seeing this film.
And I have to be honest, didn't care for the end credits story thing. Either of them. But I'm still looking forward to GotG

Not surprising since she was only in the movie because she was contracted to be. She was going to drop out after the original director left the project.

Sif and the Warriors Three are awesome. That's all the reason you need to put them in the movie.
Marvel isn't doing a traditional love triangle with Sif, Thor and Jane. Sif isn't a jealous bitch; all she has to do is outlive her competition.

To me she seemed forced and always fell on the wrong side between annoying and endearing.
I find it even more weird that you have Chris O'Dowd in the film and he's just the generic dude as opposed to having any charm or humor.

Sif pretty says these exact words when you first meet her when you talk to her about Thor and Jane.

Uh, it actually took some comedic talent to pull off that role. A small part of me was rooting for him.
Honestly, I was a little sketchy on the Kat Dennings stuff. I like the actress, but some of the humor was shoehorned in, which is weird, because her humor was very natural in the first movie (Brannaugh, man, I keep saying). That said, there were numerous funny bits. I love that Mjollnr has a personality of its own.

Kat Dennings was hilarious in this.
Also, maybe I just like silly humor in my superhero movies, but there was very little of the humor in Thor 2 that I felt was out of place.
And perhaps I'm just weird, but I thought Portman did a much better job with this than the first movie. I liked her, and didn't feel she phoned it in at all. Oh well...Thor 2 is up there with my favorite of Marvel's movies.
So far I think my list goes something like this:
Avengers
Iron Man
Captain America
Thor: The Dark World
Iron Man 3
Thor
Iron Man 2
Incredible Hulk
