Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is the scupperin' and scalawagin' sequel to Assassin's Creed III: The Connor Chronicles, a video game that got mixed reviews upon release and only shifted further afterward. Some say it didn't get crucified properly for its shittiness, some say that the masses overlooked the distinct qualities it possessed. Black Flag's critical reception has been
stellar, but word-of-mouth has it that the game lacks focus in some points while generating a higher overall level of enjoyment than its predecessor.
The player is a new employee at Abstergo Industries (working closely in tandem with video game development studio Ubisoft), who is tasked with curating the memories of a helpful donor named Desmond Miles. Desmond's ancestors were a key part of the saber-rattling, millennial duel between two secret societies: the Templars, may the light of understanding guide their path; the Assassins, to whom everything is permitted. When Edward Kenway--the law-neutral ancestor of Desmond--is given a rare chance to peer into the clash between the two groups, he reacts in such a fashion is as expected from a man with more ambition than sense...Kenway takes the inch given, and promptly seeks mileage!
During your adventures as Edward Kenway, you will swashbuckle, steal, poach, proffer, dive, sail, captain, and command. The only thing you won't find yourself involved in is the wanton dismissal of wealth. A Score the likes of which have never been seen is on the horizon...to find it, one must simply ask themselves.
ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO AIR ASSASSINATE AN OCELOT????

Before playing the game, I would've much rather seen something else
After playing it, holy shit, why is this entire franchise not about pirates?
As for Black Flag, it's amazing
It's Assassin's Creed + Far Cry 3 + motherfucking Wind Waker
How many timbers does it shiver?

I don't know the conversion rate on pieces of eight but it shivers a fuck load of timbers FWIW
There is even a dedicated timber shivering button (hint it's X for "go faster")
King's X is the official music sponsor of this Black Flag thread
Despite that, I do like that this game dropped a lot of the handholdy tutorial missions that clogged up AC3's opening hours. At least it seems like it.
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
besides Brotherhood which got a lot of good reviews
Hopefully I didn't have to play much of Liberation to make sense of it!
Also I'm curious how this will be handled with the PS3 to PS4 upgrade - will I still get the Aveline DLC on PS4, since that was a code in an insert I had to use to unlock it?
I can't find anything for the bottom half
Twitch (I stream most days of the week)

On a scale of 1 to Uguu~ how kawaii is it?

I harpooned a bull shark and felt victory, for sharks are nought but murder machines and by killing it I gain its speed and power
I hunted down a killer whale and actually felt super bad once I saw it being hauled to deck
It feels like the counter window is smaller, and also there are way too many of those grenadier bastards
there are lots of things about pirates but not many about the actual history of pirates rather than the mythology
I will be playing this tonight and all weekend.
Do what you want cuz a pirate is free, you are a pirate!

there's nothing in this game so far that won't be immediately familiar to anyone who has ever read a comic book with blackbeard in it
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
I saw the action figures had codes for DLCs other than the sword what do the others ones do? since most of them say Sails or Flags or something
maybe in a general aesthetic sense but how many video games tell the story of nassau the pirate republic
Just appearance customization for the ship
Also when's the last time there was a big pirate video game?
It's not underrepresented as far as historical periods in media go, but when it comes to video games, there are few and far between that are about pirates
My brother after I bought Sid Myers' pirate dance sim made fun of what name I had picked way back then and used as a default pirate name
Monkeyfuck
In pirate's gold I sacked Havana with a fucking sloop and 6 guys! I was the only one that lived and it was ever the payday!
I knew the Caribbean so well that I could tell you where the Treasure was by one part of the map
But I do find it interesting that Pirate's Gold was really the only pirate game that you call realistic
The steathly stuff I do actually works better in small bursts- the best being hiding in bushes and charging a dude from behind. I will never stop enjoying the animation of stab-running. You just.... ram a dude, get a slight lift with the momentum, and body slam him with a goddamn sword. It is magical.
It's contrary to the game mechanics, but there's an Arkham game player in me that wishes the noteriety system swung all the way to the other end- in other words, it's not just that you should build up a star level and have hunter ships trying to get you... if you're being a good pirate, the NPCs should be fearing you. I want a mission or two where I hit land and a bunch of guards just drop their shit and run. I want one good "oh shit it's Edward fucking Kenway!" moment and I can carry that through not accidentally pressing the "jump off this rock cliff" button for another hour.
Not incredibly substantial but she's a beast
The machete is my new favorite AC weapon
I love this stuff in games and I wish more games did that.
Give me an Ace Combat 4 "oh shit, it's the yellow ribbon!"moment and I'll pledge fealty to your game for life.

a truly crummy one seems to come out at least once a year, leading me into temptation and arousing my hopes that it will be as good as the best one ever and usually dashing those hopes like a lost sailor against a coral reef

Thread lacks Greg Ginn.
I managed to do this exactly once in AC3, had no idea how to do it again, and have wanted to do it again so badly for so long.

WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING IN THE MODERN SEQUENCE AFTER SEQUENCE 10
it was over in less than 30 seconds, seriously
Do not even THINK about fucking with one of these things until your Jackdaw is 100% upgraded
