XXX Cookie Exchange 2013 [Matches Sent!]

PeenPeen Registered User regular
edited November 2013 in Social Entropy++
COOKIE TIME (approved by Stale and Neville, lovingly handled by Peen)

What's this?

It's a cookie and treats exchange. You send cookies, candies, jams, breads, and whatever else you think is festive to another forumer.

Can anybody join?

Anybody can and should.

What if I don't live in the USA?

You're probably out of luck! If enough people from a specific country want to sign up I'll set up a minature exchange but I need at least 4. If you really want to ship internationally you're a lovely person but that means a random person would have to ship internationally to you and not everybody's able to.

Will someone ship me goodies filled with drugs/razor blades?

Maybe! That's part of the fun!

All of that sounds great! How do I sign up?

Send an e-mail to: sepluspluscookies@outlook.com That's different from years past, don't send e-mails to the gmail one I won't get them and you will remain thin.

The e-mail's subject will be YOUR FORUM HANDLE

The body will be:
Your real name
Your real address
your absent times i.e. I won't be home Dec 20-26
allergies i.e. peanuts, gluten, happiness
preferences i.e. jk you get what you get sucka

Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate your allergies but absolutely no attention will be paid to your likes and dislikes. Expand your horizons, embrace the unknown, eat the cookies.

Sign Ups will go until Saturday, November 16 and I will send out the matches shortly thereafter.

The Deadline For Delivery Is Monday, January 13th

If you miss the deadline you will be dead. To me.

I am willing to quality control this project, I know it's going to be a rough task, but I am willing to step up, just send me the first dozen cookies of each batch and I will verify them for the thread

There's no requirement that they be home made but posts explaining what you got are highly encouraged so storebought cookies will be exposed.

But I am an extremely poor cook. If I were to send cookies to someone, they would wonder what evil thing they were being punished for. Such is the black horror of my confectionary corruption.

Oh man this sounds like a great opportunity to finally try out all of those recipes I've collected and not have a bajillion cookies lying around for me to eat.

This winter I will be eating all of the cookies and other delicious goodies.

In early December I'm doing an in person cookie exchange with people from a Chicago food forum. 12 attendees, and each must bring a dozen cookies to sample at the exchange along with a dozen of their cookies for each of the other attendees to take home. Also recipes get sent to the host in advance to be compiled into a booklet for everyone. So, 11 dozen cookies come home with me that day. Gonna have to send a plethora to my pregnant sister-in-law.

Then at some point I will receive tasty cookies or other festive goodies through this exchange. Mystery morsels of deliciousness that could arrive at any time. Fantastic.

And on Jan 6th I start as a full-time student in a 6.5 month program at a nearby pastry school, where I will be baking and confectioning 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, and bringing home everything I make.

Would anyone like to introduce me to the weightloss and fitness thread? Pretty sure I'm going to need it.

    Daily Recipe Bump:

    Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies

Now I realize the idea of smushing candy canes all over the outside of a perfectly good whoopie pie/gob might seem strange, but these are delicious and if you really hate candy canes you can always skip that step and just make the cookies.

I have a friend whose job is basically to make incredible snacks, cakes and cookies (gee, I wonder who that could be), and I've been sure to aim her at this and the yearly Dickerdoodle contest.

I think she's already sent in an email, but if you need a reference, consider this my vouching for her skill and reliability.

I got the e-mail and didn't realize it was a real thing so I didn't respond, but basically this is designed to be a peer-to-peer cookie swap, so people are welcome to participate but having a business come in is a little weird. If your friend wants to sign on as herself and drop a business card in whatever she sends out that's cool.

Oh, totally. It was less "omg exposure" and more a thought that this was right in her area of expertise, and something she loves doing in general.

There's a recipe tossing around in my head which I've been wanting to try, but it really wouldn't lend itself to being shipped.

    I... I think maybe I'll do this.

I have a lot of cookies up my sleeves.

Plus like, it's just me and Haechi, and we can't possibly consume peppermint candy cane cookies, chocolate crinkles, rugelach, almond crescents, seven layers, trios, macadamia white chocolate cranberry cookies and pistachio biscotti all by ourselves.

You know what ships in the mail all right?

    Fudge.

Last exchange I got a brick of fudge from Stale that I ate like a giant candy bar. I will sign up for this in the soon time. Regardless of the quality of the chocolatey goods I will be sending out.

I am crazy tempted to get in on this. I've never done things on here that involve any sort of physical evidence. This scares me.

Okay, is there a lower limit to what needs to be sent? or an upper limit? Is this standardized in any way? I don't want to sign up only to realize afterward that I need to find time to make five thousand cookies.

I have a 6-month-old; that kind of time does not exist.

Basically, I crave structure in the form of guidelines for what is acceptable

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
