NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 upgrade recommendations

chromdomchromdom Who?Where?Registered User regular
My NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 blew up for the second time, so rather than replacing, I am thinking about upgradings
GTX 650 or GTX 660 has been suggested by the internet, but I thought I might ask you guys.
Any recommendations?

    What's your budget?

The 600 series Nvidia cards are last gen.

I see the 600s are about $200, which I can swing. Mainly, I need something that I can install without getting a new MB or any other substantial upgrades, so it's more about replacing the 545 than it is about getting the best graphics unit

A GTX660 is about $200, yeah. You wouldn't have to upgrade your motherboard or anything for any current PCI-E card, they're all backwards compatible with any PCI-E x16 slot. The problem lies with the fact that the GT545 doesn't seem to have any auxiliary power plug connections, and basically any card worth upgrading to does. Do you have spare 6 or 8 pin PCI-E leads from your power supply?
