Eldritch is a first person rogue like with stealth elements.
Just picked this up on sale on Steam and have been pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I quickly got over the slightly odd choice of minecraft style graphics and got into a game that seems to be attempting to channel the Looking Glass games through the lense (ha) of a rogue like. Destructible levels, cool atmosphere and some frustratingly sinister enemies make this worth talking about.
There are also Cthulus and what not, lets all discuss it down below after watching this surprisingly festive trailer,
Lovecraftian games are starting to become like zombie games.
Well, at least they are more complex.
I rather doubt that. I mean yeah, there's more Lovecraftian games now than there were but it's nowhere near the fucking absurd levels of zombie games. Fuck me do I never want to play another zombie game again. Even Skyrim pissed me off with all the fucking draugr over the place.
Back to topic, I really, really, really love the art style of this game. Like, really love it. Makes me think Minecraft and King's Field had a baby and this is it.
Absolutely loved playing the game and thought the atmosphere/sound effects were great. But overall it only took my two sittings to beat it and roughly 3 hours? I only restarted the game once. It's really really easy with the right item combinations and it's not hard to get that combo because there's such a small amount of items you can get anyways.
Alien imposter. Pretender. I'll keep you safe now. Close to my heart.

See I have heard complaints about the length before, but I just snuck 3 hours into it today and still haven't beat the second world. I was really close to beating it, but I got foiled by a locked door.
I think some people are just way better at this game then I am.
According to some guy on the Steam message boards (not the most reliable source I know) there is some additional content coming for free styled after Mountains of Madness.

From what I hear if you get the destruction amulet, mind control and you can keep up a good supply of bullets it's not hard to make the first play pretty quickly. The New Game + doesn't seem to work out that way for most people.
And I'm having as much fun playing with this game as I am playing it. Maybe it's not optimal but stealthing around and messing with shit is just a lot of fun. And the way levels are generated with a lot of vertical space as well the horizontal creates a lot of neat nooks and crannies to dig into, running, sliding, jumping and mantling. You can totally book around like Garret, and there's lots of neat combos of gear and special abilities.
Okay, I'm loving this game, but is there any way at all to escape the statues in world 2? It seems that once you've spotted them it's game-over, unless you're rocking some serious dynamite.

If you can get out of their line of sight without breaking your visual contact on them you're good. Of course that's when I back into a group of those skinny undying things.
Also if you have the power that allows you to create blocks you can box them in.
Finally beat the second set of levels. Super aggresive play payed off more than careful play. Stole a destruction amulet and speed boots and ran and blasted my way to the exit.
It's funny, I beat it when I loaded it up to show the game to my friend, and I was half paying attention and I just got through the entire set. Apparently I was too cautious before.
