I've been using the miss Jessie products I talked about ordering last thread for a few weeks and they are fabulous. I've got creme de la curl conditioner, leave in condish, and the jelly soft curls styling gel. I LOVE the gel - it's amazing for second day hair. Just wet hair a little and scrunch with gel and bam great hair. It gives great soft definition. The only issue is these products + my hair getting longer is giving me softer, more stretchy curls than I'm used to so it's a bit of an adjustment, but I really like it overall.

I am having the hardest time trying to find the right way to dry my hair (or let it dry) along with what finishing products to use and how much. There's no problem getting curls, but they don't seem to be falling into anything that looks like a natural hairstyle. Usually, the curls are too large and clumped together, but if I try to separate them more, I'm still getting frizz. Overall, my hair is in much better shape, though.

yaay I love talking curly hair

I am sure your big curls are awesome! some people would kill for "unnatural" looking natural curls. if you want to change it up, here are a few things I did when I had short hair and bigger curls - adjust/shake hair out at the root with fingers when it is SOPPING wet. if it is approaching dry, frizz will happen. you can also separate your curls manually and twist them out with your fingers for smaller curls - again the key is doing it when your hair is still very wet! as for drying, I almost always let mine air dry but since my hair will freeze on my head if i do that now I will diffuse dry the ends a bit (upside down). I'm sure I would have less frizz if I refrained from touching it at all while it dried but I have no self control and I like big hair so I scrunch it a lot as it dries.

product wise - it's just best to experiment. some products require a handful and for others less is more. I usually start out with a quarter sized dollop and then increase or decrease if I feel I haven't gotten it right.

and the forums on naturallycurly.com are a wealth of knowledge. there is bound to be someone there with your hair type! plus looking at before/after pics is fun.

Your hair looks gorgeous! I look forward to mine being long again. (It's below my shoulders wet currently; dry, not so much. I wanted to make sure I got back to healthy ends so I think I had them cut a little more than I realized at the time.)

And thanks for the tips! I really need to spend more time on the naturallycurly.com site. So far, I've mostly used it to find information on appropriate products. I also just need more patience. I look at pictures and think "my hair could do that" only to find that my hair isn't quite doing that instantly. The hair stylist said they're Botticelli curls, but I don't know the number/letter designation for that yet.

My hair is air-drying now, actually, with a few clips to try and get more height at the crown. They left the top a little long, but I should learn to deal with it anyway. I really want to get another sock-diffuser so I can speed things at least a little, and also for winter. It's below freezing outside right now and it's a tad chilly.

Anyway, thanks again! If my hair does anything worthwhile, I may try to get a picture when it is dry.

I had a sample of a hair mask from Miss Jessie that smelled kinda gross but made my hair so soft. I don't even have words to describe how soft it made my hair.

When I was growing up, I took lazily took advantage of my hair being naturally curly and never really bothered to learn a lot of styling tricks. To this day, I can do myself serious damage with a curling iron. I've also never straightened my hair, but there were lots of times (most of them) when I didn't work with the curl as I should have. It'll be nice to take care of it properly (and relatively easily!) and still have it look good.
