[Pokemon] ORAS doesn't stand for Oranges
Posts
Any new things I should be aware of going into this? Like, what has changed in the Pokemon world? I've read the OP, but some of it was a bit over my head still, since I think I'm just reeeally behind :P. But anyways, anything beyond that to know?
Thanks!

In HGSS, the game also says that Snorlax opens his eyes completely when I wake it up. Hilarious.
Woe for my backlog as the two games I'm intending to play for the foreseeable future are Pokémon and Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate. I'll take a BD:FF break and I'm sure SSB4 and Mario Kart 8 will distract me but man...I thought I was going to make progress this year. Perish the thought.
Man, they've changed these games lately. :P
Hell I have a gigantic list saved somewhere on here with all the changes from the major shifts to very pedantic little changes.
Pokémon has more things change between its semi sequels and remakes then Madden has in a generation, not even counting the generational switches.
I have not-particularly-exciting meowths, chikoritas, treeckos, tepigs, piplups, chimchars, turtwigs, cindaquils, totodiles, and mudkips if anyone would like... I'll be around for a while, but I'm not sure if @ing me works right now since the holiday hangout kind of broke that functionality
and now I have some feebas (no extra scales though) and oshawott and snivy as well
That and the fact that I haven't played since G&S... well

Once you have one previously-unavailable starter, you're on the gravy train.

I think as soon as you have a Pokemon, you can battle anyone via PSS at any time. No need to go to a Pokemon Center or anything.
Hey luckily you can get one almost straight away in this game, so no kingdoms necessary
Wonder Trade is basically an overflow vent for the dedicated breeders' unused stock. Seeing as the process still tends to produce such great amounts, the service is generally well supported along the entire spectrum of currently available pokemon.
I got a little excited when I saw your ship.
Nope -- you can't send eggs via Wonder Trade. Go nuts.
What happened was, on the first few days the game was out, someone corrupted their game data accidentally and the game tried to cope with that by making a mystery egg that behaved oddly, and they posted a video of this on youtube because they weren't sure how it happened exactly
In true urban legend on the internet fashion, weeks later some panicky pokemon players found this video and decided that this somehow had something to do with hacked pokemon in wonder trade, and that became the gospel truth even though it had literally never happened that way and in fact at that time it was not possible/nobody had figured out how to "hack" pokemon in X/Y, and this "fact" spread like wildfire across the internet
in summary, "wonder trade gives you corrupt data bad eggs that will ruin your game" is the "I knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who said envelope glue has roach eggs in it and your tongue can explode" of Pokemon
I've uh.... I've never heard that second one before
Excuse me while I go vomit from that mental image

Oh yeah that one's almost as old as the internet itself.
Just tried it 6 times, sending 4 brave Dugtrios, a Trapinch and a Gible to the vast reaches of the world, in exchange I got:
-Carnivine
-Electrike
-Archen (Japanese name)
-Honedge
-Pidgey (Japanese name)
-Gulpin
Not counting the Pidgey, I didn't own any of those.
EDIT: Continue to flood the WTS with trash pokemon, acquired: Sandshrew, Charizard (!) and Eevee.
Really? I like the Japanese names, it makes the pokemon cooler. And if you don't like it, you can make a new one with a Ditto.

Of course, Rotom-W fits those three like a glove, but I'm shying away from him. Heatran covers the flying+fire weaknesses too and goes a long way of filling in the blanks. Fighting and Ground weaknesses? Gengar! That leaves a psychic weakness, so some sort of dark type. Except I don't want to go through the arduous process of finding a good Heatran (legendary, right?).
Anyone have any recommendations on some alternate paths I can take?
I love the Japanese names, I am upset that they don't keep them when they evolve.

You mean that when you get a foreign pokemon, you *also* get their Pokedex entry in their native tongue?
That's awesome, for some reason.
