So I didn't know the card you guys were talking about so I looked the Grand Architect up.
1/3 - ok that's not... very good. Guess it can block a little. Must have an awesome text box. *reads text* HOLY!!! A pump effect for your army and insane mana generation?? That's crazy! What's he cost? Like 5 mana?
He... he costs three? I... what...
That's incredible.
EDIT: my only real experience playing with ramp is the Eldrazi deck in DOTP. I'm pretty sure that Grand Architect puts that deck to shame. You could have 10-12 mana available on turn 4 (and that's not including Nykthos of course)!
I don't think DOTP's Eldrazi Deck can pull that off.
Heck even on turn three, when you cast Architect, you could cast another spell for 6-8 colorless. Good lord.

Lifegain is only bad when you spend cards to do it. Incidental lifegain is awesome.
I still don't 100% agree with that. I've been playing against my friends blood rush deck a lot recently, and their are absolutely games I would have won if he hadn't dropped a Predator's Rapport on something he had just pumped with blood rush.

I usually think of it as "lifegain is only good if you have something to do with it after/with the time it buys"
like the pitfall I see a lot of newer players who like lifegain is their deck doesnt have any way to win afterwards
That rule applies to anything in magic, and is a hard lesson to learn.
You can ramp all you want, but what do you do with the mana?
You can control the game all day long, but what do you do once you're in the driver's seat?
its turn 6 and you're top decking because you used your ramp to empty your hand already
draw that card and get a big ole grin, tap all your shit to have 23 floating mana
play your third elvish mystic and pass turn
this is actually why I stopped playing g/r devotion
that and garruk seeing 20 cards and only finding me 4 mana dorks was the last straw

I mean, some of the best times you can have in Magic is when some just tremendously goofy shit happens, regardless of who wins.
I managed to make a 200/200 Thromok the Insatiable once, and then my friend Act of Treason 'd it and followed up with Fling. Sure I lost, but at that point who cares. That was magical.
Or my goblin deck that forces draws with Skirk Fire Marshal on the regular. Still not winning, also not really caring because it's funny.
Or my old B/R chaos deck. Only played it in games of 4+ people, and it was full of every goofy red and black enchantment I could get ahold of, along with Howling Mines and whatnot.
So yeah, maybe I end up missing my win con, but if I still end up being able to make 30+ mana each turn because of shenanigans, I'm still having a pretty good time.
ramping into sphinx rev makes me wish reliquary tower was in standard
but alas

Also @APODionysus, if you're using Chrome you might want to check out Autocard Anywhere. It lets you mouse over card names that people type out to see a picture of the card, and if you click on them it will take you to the Gatherer page for it.
You have to play around with the ignore list so it isn't highlighting every instance of the word Island or whatever, but it's really nice if you're still learning what all these old cards are.

i forgot to mention
the only guy i lost to at prerelease
his next round? he made a 36/36 with double-strike and lifelink
(full disclaimer, couldpost is banned in modern but I remember when it was in standard and I could be playing an entwined tooth and nail on like turn 5)
My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)
Verdict: Phenax is a great card for Cube owners that hate their friends, but keep in mind you likely will only get to play with him once per friend. Just a miserable card to play against.
+1

Yeah, Sword of Body and Mind and Jace, Memory Adept aren't in my Cube for the same reasons.
That much mill just isn't fun in a limited format unless you're the dude doing the milling.
I think I want to make a Weatherlight crew deck for my next EDH deck.
People would probably be cool with me having Legacy Weapon as a general. I'd run Skyship Weatherlight but it doesn't have the colours to run the full crew.

I think that's all but of them. Although I feel there was an angel lady in Tempest who went bad.

The best thing about the Modern Architect/Master of Waves deck is curving off like, turn 1 Cursecatcher, turn 2 Grimoire Thief/Tidebinder Mage, turn 3 Architect, turn 4 Master of Waves into Mindslaver, activate, next turn attack for a fucking thousand.

Well, creature cards can use abilities too, just not abilities with the tap symbol (although to make things more confusing, they can be tapped for abilities where the cost is something like, "Tap a creature you control: X").

There's some other good colorless ramp in Modern:
edit huh, the deck doesn't actually have that much space
edit edit wow not even enough space one copy of all 15 gods

I'll have all the mana and smile a little wider every time the other guy's frustration visible increases, respectively
both of those are solid win states
draw that card and get a big ole grin, tap all your shit to have 23 floating mana
play your third elvish mystic and pass turn
Cause that's like... What I'm talking about.
I like that Dismiss Into Dream lets you kill gods by breathing on them.

How do you feel about cloudpost?
(full disclaimer, couldpost is banned in modern but I remember when it was in standard and I could be playing an entwined tooth and nail on like turn 5)
I just wanna slam down sundering titans and blightsteels and eldrazi like its no biggie more consistently than tron is that too much to ask
Well the way I see it you've got two options
1): Make 10/10 hydra, put Alpha Authority on it
2): Clan Defiance/Aurelia's Fury/[Choose your Fireball stand-in] opponent's face off
