I am really going to miss the current incarnation of Control when Rotation comes.
I just love watching it being played. It's like Magic porn for me.
Ugh, I'm the opposite. Nothing more boring than watching two control decks Revving at each other. Can't wait for that card + DSphere + Verdict to rotate.
Playing against current control can be mildly fun.
When it's not fun, though, it's really not fun. I won't miss it, too much. Although, with what we got in Theros block... The essence of control won't change much. I mean, we've got 2 new dsphere's already (Banishing, Chain to).
The loss of Verdict will be nice. Uncounterable sweepers are dumb.

do you like banishing light over banisher priest for maindeck? You do lose your planeswalker targets and your opposing banishing/d-sphere targets... but I'd think WW still wants the 2/2 body on the board
I found the Solar Flare control decks from a few years ago much more interesting than the current Sphinx's Rev decks. Sun Titan/Phantasmal Image chaining, mmm yes.

That Verdict can't be countered almost never comes up.
Granted its more relevant than it normally would because of Monoblue but most of the time the decks afraid of verdict don't counter anyway.

Yeah, Verdict can be "countered" by Boros or Golgari Charm, which probably happens more than regular counters would since they're more creaturey colors (mono-Blue notwithstanding).

We are definitely different types of mages. I watch Rev get cast for seven and I just break out in a smile.
Drawing cards and casting counterspells is where it's at for me.

I'm not really big on countermagic
but my enjoyment of a control deck is improved immensely if it involves red
and I like my card draw most when it's creatures cantripping for me, or stuff along those lines

solar flare was a riot. sphinxs rev decks are not only excruciating, but the way I beat them by playing 9 maindeck walkers in r/g is just as stupid

It's kind of a tossup. It's largely the same effect stapled to a body, but the body means that it's a hell of a lot easier to remove. Worth considering, though! I'll probably playtest it both ways.
Being new to MTG the current Rev version is the only competitive Control deck I've known (though I know some consider MonoB to be, at its core, a Control deck, which makes sense depending on how you look at it).
I mean, I've played a Controlling build of Talrands Deck on DOTP and have my own RU Spellheart Chimera deck, which is pretty much Control (and a deck I'm looking at tinkering with Keranos in)
But I know little of Control Decks of Standards Past

A control/reanimator deck which focused around this guy.
which would bring back this guy.
Chaining a bunch of Sun Titans together into an instant army.
And
Act as removal that you can also bring back via SUn Titan.
Acts as uneven hand disruption since you want stuff in the graveyard.
Recurs Sun Titan and since you're already playing that we also play the best seven drop
Add in the sweeper ans spot removal of the day and you have Solar Flair.

Was so glad to see Scars block go, you don't even know.
So question. If I have a god and its devotion is to low to make it a creature does it still have the type "God"?
No. However, if you exile it with Deicide, when it's exiled it's back to being a creature - God.

If this is in reference to Deicide it doesn't matter because deicide checks the card after it is exiled so it is always a god regardless of devotion
just in general I was gonna say no but actually I think it would be, because it is all it's subtypes regardless of whatever types it currently is or isn't right?
oh wait shit I am completely wrong
If a God stops being a creature, it loses the type creature and all creature subtypes. It continues to be a legendary enchantment.
I guess subtypes are specific to types or something
Thinking of picking up Keranos for my Spellheart Chimera deck. Feels like a solid fit over, say 2x Steam Augury (or 1x Augury and my singleton Oppertunity)
He'll either draw me cards or make my burn spells much more potent.
Longterm I think ONE Keranos is probably the right number, but I'll start with two to get a better feel for how he plays.
2x Turn // Burn
2x Wrath of the Gods
3x Divination
4x Spellheart Chimera
3x Nivix Cyclops
CMC 4
1x Ral Zarek
CMC 5
1x Keranos, God of Storms
Land
10x Island
11x Mountain
total cards = 60
Also, mana base is like that because of budget, so unless you guys think I should run some guildgates, it's staying that way. Same for 1 ofs of Ral and Keranos

You might as well run guildgates if you have them handy; you only have two one-drops, and you don't want to play them on turn 1 anyway.
You have eight counterspells, which 1) don't help kill your opponent and 2) don't activate Nivix Cyclops on the turn you want him activated (yours). I'd recommend a playset of Shocks and a playset of Searing Blood.
Definitely run four Izzet Guildgates. Generally, you want your lands coming into play untapped, but the fixing is too important to leave out.
Guttersnipe seems perfectly synergistic with your plan, and I'd probably try to make room for the full four copies over Spite of Mogis and Anger of the Gods. Spite of Mogis is cute and on-theme, but it can't hit players and doesn't really do much by itself. It's a card I'd consider running if you had a few copies of Boros Reckoner in your deck (at which point it could potentially represent 7 or 8 points of burn to the face.)

Counter spells are worth it in an instant/sorcery deck, though to maximize them I would include some Young Pyromancers and Guttersnipes; unlike the Cyclops, they don't care when the spell gets cast. I'd use Dissolves instead of Negates, with some Negates in the sideboard.
The Anger of the Gods will probably hurt more than it helps.
21 land isn't enough for that style of deck; you want to have plenty of mana open for counters and burn when they'll be most effective; early game you want to get down at least one Pyromancer/Cyclops/Guttersnipe so you can maximize the value on your spells. I'd bring it up to 24 land, and maybe cut Ral Zarek; he doesn't really synergism with what the rest of the deck is trying to do.
You might also consider Goblin Electromancer; playing Magma Jet or Essence Scatter for a single mana is a beautiful thing.

If you're running brimaz and not countless battles you're nutso
brimaz turn 3 and eidolon bestow turn 4 is 6 power swinging in with brimaz alone, more assuming you didn't fumble your first two turns
I'm just not sure where to fit him in, is the thing.
I guess I could swap out Fencing Ace for it, although Fencing Ace gets similarly nuts once you start getting some anthems out.
No. However, if you exile it with Deicide, when it's exiled it's back to being a creature - God.
